Flaming Cliffs 3 Pre-Req Question
BBQ replied to Toni Carrera's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
i installed from original DVD (A10 on cover) but cant see a serial number anywhere? -
Great info Bushmanni -- thanks for sharing it. And it makes sense -- specially nowadays, with ever-changing battlefields. Was is Sun Tzu who said: "You never step onto the same battlefield twice. For it is not the same battlefield, and it is not the same person." (joke -- but true!)

good decision mrmann. inthink u ought to spin it up at least once before shelving it -- i recommend single mission where goal is to capture 2 objectives -- the one close to mineral vody airbase. upon entering mission choose to play as FAC/JTAC. youll b perched up on a cliff in a perfect position to designate targets for CAS. at start youll b close to cliff and need to CAREFULLY scoot to edge. make sure u know keystroke for handbrake!! BTW Im also in Indpls. Small world.

Wonder if anybody knows how convoy escorts work in real-life. For example, how far away from the convoy is the flight allowed to search? Is the modus operandi to search well ahead of the convoy for threats, or to stay tight on the convoy? Any difference in how they work between US perspective and Soviet/Russian? How many in a flight for convoy tasking?

Would be great if the current map could be updated with current roads/highways -- e.g., IIRC this road should continue up and over the mountains to the east:
-
its worth $11.99 to see an an airstrike you just called in IMHO.

I searched for a post which mentioned the deprecated feature but couldn't find one. I know there were some issues with it a long, long time ago (pre-DCS: World), and that it had been disabled -- but figured since capability was in current mission editor, that somewhere along the line they had fixed it.

well, that explains it.

Mistermann, have a safe trip -- BTW, also in Indianapolis. The exception will be Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 3 having a 40% off sale. The sale will last until the 30th of June: DCS: UH-1H Huey - $19.99 DCS: Combined Arms – $11.99 DCS: P-51D Mustang – $15.99 DCS: Black Shark 2 - $15.99 DCS: Black Shark 2 Upgrade – $11.99 DCS: A-10C Warthog – $15.99 DCS: A-10C Warthog 1.1.0.7 (English DVD box) – $15.99 DCS: Black Shark (DVD box) – $15.99 Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 3 – $29.99 DCS: Black Shark – $7.99 Purchase from: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.co...r=shop&lang=en Be sure to get the BS2 Upgrade (highlighted above) if you already have BS1. Thanks, I appreciate it.

Would be great if some of the experts (GlowingAmraam, et. al.), could contribute to this thread, and the admins could consider making it a sticky. After many, many fun-filled hours in this series (starting with Flanker2), I finally feel like an aircraft, in this case the Ka-50, is no longer flying me, but that I am flying it. One of my favorite missions as to "fun factor" has been the third mission in the classic "Vergeev Group" campaign. This mission will force any player to learn to control the helicopter at slow speeds and provides many opportunities for hover practice, etc. I would like to make a video, and started recording and ended up kind of all over the place in terms of the camera -- sometimes I want to show the pilot view, other times the external views -- and have found that it's going to take a lot of "takes" and practice to make a seamless, well-designed movie. Any tips, best practices, etc. would be very helpful! Also, if there already is such a resource, please let me know about it! Best, BBQ

Module manger not detecting BS1 to install BS2 upgrade
BBQ replied to todd022's topic in Payment and Activation
I have the same problem -- really needs to be a Sticky on the whole BS1 to BS2 thing. And I installed BS1 from the DVD -- no gaming service involved. I'll try the method mentioned above. Can't remember where -- but somewhere recently I read that it was important to use the Module Manager to install updates/products. Well -- I tried! -
Trim - stick jerks left helicopter rolls right
BBQ replied to Sirocco's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
It's not an autopilot thing -- just a pilot thing. This erratic behavior of my sidewinder2 only occurred when there were no hydraulics (i.e., just entered cold cockpit), so no dampening of autopilot channels were on -- nothing was on. Once engines running, it seems to work well -- i.e., when I want to trim to new position i hold trimmer, set attitude of fly control surfaces, release trimmer -- my FFB stick stays put, but allows me to still fly with that new center position. This is with the top two autopilot channels enabled (but no altitude/heading). When I turn all four channels on, and enable "Enroute" mode, yes, the helo will utilize it's 20% range of control to get to steerpoint. Thanks again for all the tips! -

Never used the central trim method -- so no, didn't have that checked. I think you're right -- just years of doing it one way, it naturally seems uncomfortable, etc. doing it the "right" way now! -

Ok -- just watched video -- so it's like when I hold the trimmer button, I lose all hydraulics. Is that how it's supposed to work? Doesn't make sense to me -- the hydraulics are obviously still there. -

Identity? Meaning user error? That's what I was thinking -- 90% of the time for me, it ends up being user error when it comes to high-fidelity sims. One last clarification though -- Number one -- I've been flying Ka50 since it's beta -- just never had a FFB stick before. The way I'm flying it now -- it's rather easy, but not a lot of fun really. I basically hold trimmer in, put stick where I want it, and release trimmer. Is that the main way to fly? What I just want to fly "free" so to speak -- like when I'm holding the Trimmer button and the stick forces all relax? Yet that feels so loose, I can't imagine that it's supposed to feel like that. HOwever, since my experience is limited to the Cougar, maybe I've been spoiled? -

Well, it seems it only acts crazy when I'm testing it before hydraulics are good to go. I thought I could just enter cockpit and start moving stick around -- testing trim, etc. I would, for example, pull stick all the way back and let go and it would violently move all the way forward and stay in that forward position. Anywhere in the 9 to 12 o'clock position it would just stay where I put it -- in other quadrants it would act erratically. Once engines are going -- and so hydraulics working, it appears to work fine. Thanks for everyone's help, and especially PeterP for providing the sticky. -

I'll create a short clip of the behavior and post it shortly -- -

PeterP -- as long as the idea for trimming is to hold down the trimmer, set attitude, then release trimmer, then it seems to work fine. If I just try to move the stick to where I want it to go and just tap the trimmer, all hell breaks lose. -

actually, visited the sticky and I need to try that stuff -- then I'll report back if I still have any issues. Thanks for the stick -- I somehow didn't visit that one -

Hi Peter -- I'm really skeptical that my sidewinder2 FFB is setup correctly -- would there be a recording I could make that could show you what I mean and maybe you could look at it and tell me what's up? I was thinking just regular cockpit view with the controller display enabled and some voice on my part tell you my concerns? If you don't have time -- no worries, thought I'd ask though. -

This should be a sticky -- for some reason it took me hours to find this information, was about to return my sidewinder to the seller! -
I noticed that all of my ME icons for the airports are missing -- anyone run into this before?

- What were you doing just before - or trying to do when the problem happened? I had just set a target for my last Paladin Artillery vehicle when it came under fire. Right when the first enemy round hit it, system crashed. (this was from the F10 view). - In which mission? (If custom mission, attach it / trk). This was from the following CA mission: SP-US Company Day Night Advance - Kislovodsk.miz - What happened? A windows error window popped up and asked whether I wanted to go online to find solution, or close the program. (see screenshot included in .rar file) - And when? (Track timeline, use LCtrl + Pause for TIME ingame). Couldn't record time or track due to crash. - Relevant info regarding your issue - SP, MP, Mods, custom PC gear - anything relevant. Single player -- was jumping around from JTAC on ridge to a MBT -- but for clarification, I was actually in the F10 Map view when crash occurred.
