1. Can anyone confirm power cord from original Xbox works on this joystick?
2. I understand the reason to not allow the simulation to run on virtual machines, as someone might be able to circumvent the licensing and steal from Eagle Dynamics. However, since the "core" module is free to the public -- could that module somehow be enabled to work with virtual machines? It would be nice to be able to create missions with the ME, which is really the only reason I'd like to have it running on a VM. Please, my intention is NOT to start a war in this thread about licensing, etc. Just a wish. :joystick:
3. Not sure what you mean by "directional maneuverability" -- but it was my understanding that the co-axial rotor configuration allowed greater maneuverability that the standard single rotor configuration. Not sure really, if it's true or not -- please chime in if anyone knows --
4. Awesome list cookie thanks for providing it! I would only add Danger Close by author Steve Call
5. Actually, you might find better -- I've been reading a book about CAS in Afghanistan, and the CAS "pros" have a label above the shredder in their office/area: "DOCTRINE" I haven't read the document you linked to -- and I'm sure much of it is relevant -- but apparently the ability to improvise, create, and think of one's toes, along with knowing seemingly everyone else's job (pilots/ground commanders), plus being an expert in not only the latest in communications equipment, but also all the other technologies from the 20th century (UHF, VHF, etc.) -- these guys are really something! I'm referring to the TACP's, and since I'm only a quarter into the book, I haven't yet resolved that acronym (actually i'm listening to the audiobook) -- the narrator isn't saying AFAC, or JTAC -- definately TAC - P. Man I'm lazy -- I better just get a link to the book. Here it is: Danger Close: Tactical Air Controllers in Afghanistan and Iraq by Steve Call I swear, it seems like every book I come across -- the author's name is always some kind of pun on the topic of the book
6. What do you mean by getting a proper 5.1/7.1 set of headphones? AFAIK there is no such thing -- i.e., headphones with 6 or 8 different speakers! To say they are "compatible", AFAIK, is to say that they have Dolby Headphone technology (or something similar), which is what I'm referring to. Emulation is the only option, and it's really quite amazing -- if you haven't already, check this demo out. Put on some headphones first -- and be amazed! (at least I was )
7. Windows Settings for Dolby Headphones? Hey guys -- I read this from the dolby website: My question is -- I've got the Corsair HS1 set referenced above -- and I've enabled Dolby Headphone in the Corsair control panel; how should I configure them in the Windows control panel? I can choose stereo, 5.1 or 7.1 I think. I guess really I would like to know -- does Dolby Headphones take a stereo input from the simulation and apply effects so that it sounds like 7.1, or does it take the 7.1 input from the simulation and then apply effects to it so that it works albeit going through only two outputs (the headphones)? Is it "standard" operating procedure these days for game developers to preprocess with Dolby Pro Logic IIz so that gamers can enjoy 7.1 surround with headphones (utilizing Dolby Headphone technology?)
8. FYI: Perhaps it used to work this way -- but not anymore -- or maybe it was a typo -- but pressing "0" twice on the PVI-800 doesn't have the desired effect! See this thread for current instructions. Like I said -- it might have used to work like WildBill describes -- so no offense to him! I just didn't want anyone else trying this method in frustration
9. DCS World/Ka-50/A10/P51 = STUNNING DCS World/Ka-50/A10/P51 + Third Party Goodness = UNBELIEVABLE DCS World/Ka-50/A10/P51 + Third Party Goodness + Oleg = PRICELESS
10. I couldn't figure out how to switch the HUD to get into a mode that looked like the image on the left -- taken from . It would be nice to have the HUD like that -- as I often find it too cluttered in the center when trying to trim the beast (image on the right, taken from the sim). Is this possible in one of the modes?
11. My condolences to the team and the family.
12. I'm referring to the 240 page "DCS User Manual". --> :book:

14. Only way I could figure it all out was to go "heads down" in the manual, and not move on to next section until I thoroughly understood the section I had finished. Many times this meant trying things out in the ME to make sure. I've been away from simming for a bit but was pleasantly surprised to see the manual had been revised - there are tutorials/examples in there for many of the more difficult features - including flags. It's one of those things where you really have to buckle down and read it thoroughly or you'll never get it. It really is quite powerful - good luck!
15.
16. Since this is so self-evident, and might not be a bug, I didn't take the time to do a full bug report. See screenshot -- I've set the HUD on the Ka-50 to show the standby reticle -- but the lamp does not extinguish -- if I switch to either daytime or nighttime mode, the lamp goes out. Is this by design?
17. I created a fairly accurate Google Map (KMZ) file of the terrain in DCS World that is currently rendered. I don't know if it will be useful to anyone, but here's the file: Just download and change the ".zip" file extension to ".kmz" and double-click the file and it should open in Google Earth, otherwise you can view it online in Google Maps. I didn't bother making placemarks around the Black Sea, as AFAIK it's all rendered.
18. Post your frog@sunset shots here!
19. Apparently this issue is already known, so I'm going to delete file attachments.
20. Not sure what the "rubber ground" syndrome is -- it's more like "Tourette's Syndrome" actually -- and I can say that, since I have it! What does the "rubber ground" syndrome look like?
21. NOTE: Apparently this bug is already known -- so I deleted attached files to free up my attachment space. Bug description: Upon an emergency landing (crash) and coming to a complete stop, stopping engines/cut-off valves and finally the rotor brake, the Ka-50 continued to move around though there weren't any apparent forces acting on the helicopter. I would expect, upon the rotor coming to a complete stop, as well as the helicopter itself, that any motion would cease. DCS version 1.2.3 Steps to reproduce / Conditions of occurrence Crash landing with landing gear not extended Fast-forward to 06:45 in the mission track and view behavior PC Configuration See attachment Attachments ALIEN.txt (PC specs) emergency.trk Log files ***NOTE: zip file is password protected as mission is copyrighted -- from the Vergeev Group Campaign. I didn't want to make it available to the public obviously -- so please PM me for password.***
22. What led me to create this thread -- I've been re-reading Ed Macy's Apache: Inside The Cockpit Of The World's Most Deadly Fighting Machine, and he apparently was able to force a hellfire to hit a target from an abnormal trajectory -- in his case, if I understand it correctly, he put one down a Taliban tunnel in Afghanistan by pitching the Apache's nose down (basically put the Apache in a perpendicular position to the ground) and then firing the Hellfire while the weapon's officer in the front seat stabilized the lase on the target. The Hellfire didn't have time to completely straighten-out -- in effect forcing a trajectory on the weapon so that it wouldn't hit the lip, or side of the inside of the hole, but rather go straight down it, exploding 10 or so feet down on the floor of the tunnel. I'll try to make a diagram of it if I have some time --
