I have the Pimax 8KX, Reverb G2, Quest 2 and Pico 4 And out of all these... I think Pico 4 is the best (when it works), and G2 is second Quest 2 is the most stable and easiest to run, but the FOV and Fresnel lenses are worse...

Pretty sure that it'll work VERY well.

Just did the first mission of the Kerman campaign, and I really enjoyed it. I've played 2 other Harrier campaigns. This one is just the right mix of mil-sim, lots of voiceover content, excellent kneeboard charts, long mission of about 1.5hrs. Little things like interactive options along the way are so cool, as an amateur mission maker, I can imagine how much work this takes. The mission briefing blurb reads just like a chapter out of Flying Nightmares (one of my favourite AV8B books). Great job and well worth the money!

Still getting CTD on my Pico with VD, when trying to run DCS MT Anyone else have this issue? I removed Saved Games DCS folder, did a full clean and repair Updated my GPU drivers Crash at game loading screen. Once every 10 times I get to load the menu and it's super smooth in the Mig 29 VR menu, but it crashes when I try to launch a mission. Using Quest 2, I get constant 90 FPS with DCS MT
-
It launches SteamVR for me. Half the time it CTD. I can run the non-MT version just fine, in fact I get very good performance on that at 45 fps capped and 180fps on pancake mode. I tried clean/repair and my OpenComposite is set to SteamVR. Looking for answers too

Anyone have success running MT with Virtual Desktop on Pico 4? Mine crashes to desktop when launching via "Launch Game...". It starts SteamVR when launching this way, usually my SteamVR does not open when using this method.

Unfortunately it's constantly crashing for me using virtual desktop and the Pico 4. Tried clean repair but still no luck -
Go 4090 if you want to play VR and enjoy the full experience. Even a 3090ti will struggle (a little bit), a 3080ti will only be playable at settings most people coming from monitor can't accept. A CPU helps of course, but the difference a GPU makes for VR is massive. CPU will smooth out the stutters and also ease the load on multiplayer maps with a lot of assets. If anything, the future multithreading patch may make this a non-issue.

Where you hold the stick matters. It's impossible without a proper arm rest. I'm using a car seat as my sim rig and it has little wings out the sides which I can rest my elbow on. Then I hold the stick at the top of the grip. It's a lot more moment at the top compared to resting your palm on the palm rest. Of course tune to your settings, I don't use the realistic setting either. It's tiring for sure. Sometimes I just wish I had a normal Orion 2 base. Haha. But my centre stick with extension already fulfills that role

Today I learnt: From VD Discord: You can launch games that aren't part of your Oculus or Steam library by right-clicking the Streamer icon in the system tray, selecting "Launch Game..." and locating the executable. Alternatively, you can inject games through a batch file (.bat) by using: "C:\Program Files\Virtual Desktop Streamer\VirtualDesktop.Streamer.exe" "[ExecutablePath]" Works perfectly. Less clicks FTW! Now all I do I press the Pico power button, use the side buttons to start Library/Virtual Desktop and it auto connects to PC. Use mouse to click the bat file on my desktop.

For what it's worth, I don't have Pico Streaming Assistant installed and I am using Virtual Desktop. I works for me by both SteamVR and Oculus API.

Few tips I've experienced while running the Pico 4: Tracking system uses visible light (as opposed to infrared light on Quest 2). Ensure environment is well lit to get good tracking! To disable the headset going into standby mode, place a sticker over the proximity sensor in the goggles. Currently standby/passthrough mode or loss of tracking will crash DCS. No problem for VD Desktop Mode, but kinda annoying if you're in a multiplayer mission and remove the headset. Use a high powered USB-C charger - this will allow the headset to trickle down or even maybe charge up a little bit during prolonged use. Without a charger, i tend to run out after 1.5hrs in DCS Godlike VD mode. I run the charging cable through the velcro loop on the top of the headset to give the charging port some strain relief. If your hand controls are not detected, a center dot will appear in the headset to allow you to click using the headset right-side buttons. Useful to re-center the play area as well. Double tapping the menu key on left controller will toggle between desktop mode and VR mode. Really useful for checking out Discord or browser mid-game. I get better experience running Oculus API - right click on the VD system tray icon and launch DCS shortcut or DCS.exe. The draw back is lack of XR utilities like XRNS, OpenXRToolkit. Lots of comparisons in this thread already
-
You can see the performance panel for Oculus by clicking in one of the VD settings page on the headset. Can also bring it up by depressing both thumb sticks. I think this only shows the streamed resolution (godlike)
-
My experience mirrors yours too. It is also so much simpler to run - just right click and paste the file name in and launch. Only issue for me is lack of XRNS or VRNS.
-
Yes! I get best results with this method. It's very high frame rate and very clear. Downside is that I can't use all the OpenXR goodies like Open XR Toolkit, XRNS to further tweak the colour and clarity. But it works well so i'm happy I am getting some window lag when I turn my head quickly in game. Like I can see the edges of the frame lag just very slightly behind. Any idea how to fix this? Head movement is slightly smoother in my G2

Does SteamVR start when you launch it like this? In the menu bar
-
@VR Flight Guy in PJ Pantsok I realised i was not specific enough with my question. This thread is very confusing as it seems that different people are using different means of running DCS on the Pico 4. I found the clarity and performance of running SteamVR quite subpar - this means by clicking "launch SteamVR" in Virtual Desktop menu (in the Pico headset itself) after seeing the black SteamVR backdrop, clicking on DCS shortcut with the openXR and forceVR suffix. I am running DCS at 150% Steam resolution and using OpenComposite with the OpenVR_api.dll I have been running Oculus API - correct me if i'm wrong - by clicking on the Virtual Desktop system tray icon and selecting Launch Game... and selecting the DCS.exe. From my understanding of the above posts, this method doesn't allow VRNS or XRNS. find the performance and clarity outstanding in this method.

Are you able to use VR Neck Safer or XR Neck Safer with this setup? I can't get Open XR Toolkit to work either
-
Thanks a lot Yes I went ahead and purchased a Pico yesterday as well. I'm on a 3090ti with 5900x. Running it with Virtual Desktop and Godlike mode with stock headset and SteamVR settings. I had capped 36 FPS in DCS, very smooth and the sweet spot is much better as you have said. The headset itself is very comfortable and the FOV is better than the G2 even with the glasses insert. I ordered prescription lenses so will be removing that insert when they arrive to get better FOV. I'm going to be adjusting SteamVR and try to tune the VR experience today. Can I clarify the steps to starting DCS? When clicking my DCS icon (no suffixes), it loads up DCS in the VR aspect ratio but doesn't appear in VD. I have to launch SteamVR through the VD app, then right click on VD in the Windows System Tray and click "Launch Game..." and select the EXE. Also how do I use VR Neck Safer with Pico? The OpenXR Neck Safer doesn't work anymore. Should i use the VRNS version? Don't think an hour is sufficient to really get a good impression. Wifi streaming is quite dependent on your hardware, and even with the Quest 2 it took me a while to get it working smoothly. My Pico 4 runs VERY smooth and sharp in Virtual Desktop, so you might want to consider having a little more time to dig in to the settings.

As an owner of the Quest 2, Reverb G2 and Pimax 8KX, I kept going back to the G2 as the centre sharpness/clarity was outstanding for simulators. I managed to also get good performance with a 3090ti. What do you guys think of the Pico 4 compared to the G2? I like the pancake lenses and overall increased sweet spot, but not sure if it's worth spending more for this generation. I also have a ton of Quest 2 games so comparing this with the Quest Pro as well

DML - Mission Creation Toolbox [no Lua required]
crispy12 replied to cfrag's topic in Scripting Tips, Tricks & Issues
I found cloner overall very much simpler to use, so i've been using it as a spawn zone. I setup a MQ9 Reaper over the killbox in an racetrack orbit and set it as a clonezone and spawn on mission start. Then I would like to add a command for orders - laze to lase any targets in the killbox area. I tried to do it with a spawner using the Reaper but didn't seem to work on first try. I will try again later. -

I'm trying to add a JTAC component to my mission. It's a killbox with random spawns on the ground, and I want to add in a JTAC Reaper MQ9 Can cloner zones utilise orders=laze? I don't seem to see any menu appear like the demo mission. -
Which part of does not make sense? It's not very clear regarding each of the MFSSB modes as well. I had to try each while in DCS and just stuck with what felt the best.
