  1. I'm playing the Easy instant action mission where you have to destroy a couple of vehicles, a bridge, and some tanks. Vehicles are fine, a couple of glancing hits and they explode with nice secondaries. The last waypoint on this mission is a convoy of tanks and by the time I get to them, I am usually low on weapons and have to take out one or two with guns. Sure, I can sic my wingie at them, but what's the fun in that? Anyway, I was wondering how to safely engage tanks. Sure, I know high and from behind is ideal, but from how high? Also, I say "safely" because these damn critters shoot back! A guns pass on 3 MBTs is suicide! From my limited experience, by the time HE gets in decent kill range (6- to 3-o'clock on the Guns pipper), YOU are in range of his machine gun as well!
  2. Very nice, thanks!
  3. IFFCC -> Display, thanks guys. This thing has a manual?!? Lol, I'm kidding. I've browsed through that monster (I actually have the entire thing printed out!) but damn, that's just too much info!
  4. I was just wondering if the alt readout on the right-hand side of the HUD is working off of sea level or ground level? I think I just flew over a hill and GCAS was telling me to pull up but my alt reading said 2400 feet. Is there a way to change this to AGL?
  5. I've been hearing people say they've edited this-and-that on the .lua file, but which one is it? And where is it on the game directory? I am looking for a way to overlay the MFCDs on the left and right of the monitor. I am gaming with one monitor at the moment and having to zoom in just to look at the MFCDs takes a lot of my SA away. Any help appreciated. Thanks!
  6. Thanks for the clarification there. Looking forward to BFT4. I need to re-fly BFT1 just to double-check my observations. I will email them to the Dev Team. Cheers!
  7. Sabre, is feedback to be given here or in the Google groups? If it was here, then anyone registered can comment and while sharing info would be good, too many posters can muddle things up quick. Sharing via google is also possible and the info would be easier to manage but limited "test population." BFT 1 was awesome.
  8. I just signed up for this and I'm really excited to be able to help out (or mess around!). I would vote for a realistic ramp-to-ramp format for each mission if nothing but to get those important tasks committed to muscle memory. I do this all the time and save for setting radio frequencies and lights, I can cold-start the aircraft from memory now. Shutdown is another matter since I don't always make it back from my missions :) However, for those of us who have work, but wouldn't mind a bit of "learning" for one or two hours during the week nights, being able to start in the air, or even right behind the tanker for a refueling tutorial, would be a blessing. Get right down to the meat of things really quickly and be able to focus on that aspect of the sim. Starting the tutorial from 8nm from the target range gets right down to maverick employment and such. I know it is hard to implement an in-flight start in the sim, but it is possible, so it may be something to think about... I just offered some evidence on why it may be worth the effort later on, once we got the ramp-to-ramp stuff in place.
  9. PM sent sir!
  10. When you make it to the end of a 20-page thread understanding all of it and laughing at most of it... And then you realize the time wasted in reading the thread could've been better spent playing.
  11. You, sir, have got a guaranteed customer right here. Looking good, and keep them coming! Personally, I'm interested in the UFC, Fuel control panel, AHCP and landing gear panel, Fuel gauge panel, Countermeasures panel, Caution annunciator panel, Electronics panel, CDU, and lighting control panels. The rest I don't use often so I can leave them for another day. And ideas how to get the electronics into these panels and interface with the PC and DCS A-10?
  12. Um, GA, how do you fast-forward then? Is it just CTRL+Z? How many levels of fast-forward is available?
  13. Wait, what?? This is a sim? And you can take it online?? Over the intarwebz? :shocking:
  14. Like the title says. I would like to do so to take proper screenies and such for maybe after-action reports. Also, is it possible to "export" a track to video for a YouTube upload for example? Thanks!
  15. Shadow, I'm talking about keys on the keyboard that have nothing mapped to them. I'm then going to use these keyboard keys for my TS3, TrackIR, and VAC push-to-talk. Warrior, I need the numpad keys for moving the view when in F2 (external) or F6 (weapon) views. I've re-mapped the Warthog trim hat to trim. What does up/down/left/right do in the game? I know that ; , . / are slew commands...
  16. Does anyone know which keyboard buttons are unused by the sim? I want to map my push-to-talk, vac, and TrackIR center buttons. Thanks!
  17. I'm okay with the ghost pilot, but I hope they put limits on how far the view can rotate in one direction. Weird being able to look 270 degrees :D
  18. I think the steerpoint is over Bantumi, but you are supposed to contact the ATC/Tower and he will give you directions about 10nm out to sea (I can't remember the term for this but this is where you'll start your landing approach). Follow that. If you forget or don't know where you are, contact ATC Bantumi again and choose the "I'm lost" transmit.
  19. Thanks for the clarification, Crunch. Was always confused as to which went where. So Beta for bugs, DCS for discussion. Geskes, thanks for the recommendations. I'll go try them out.
  20. Ah, excellent, at least I know I won't need to do them again.
  21. Quick query. I downloaded the missions from the link in the first post of this thread, installed Beta 4 (full install), then located each tutorial in Beta 4 and replaced it with the tutorials from the download. Is that all that is needed to play the new tutorials? I think I read somewhere that the tutorials needed to be opened via the Missions screen and not the Tutorial screen, so I'm a bit confused now. Cheers!
  22. With all the info presented in the dialogue, the stock tutorials aren't really "ideal" for just practicing bombing runs and weapons deployment. I'd rather study from the manual while the sim is paused (ala F4AF!) rather than have to sit through repetitions of info I don't need or understant. I was wondering if anyone can whip up a simple training mission where one could theoretically practice with all weapons versus all manner of targets? I was thinking maybe take off from Bantumi and have practice targets on the target area south of Kobuleti. For bunker or building practice, the buildings on Kobuleti would suffice. Maybe even have targets that are off the practice area to be able to practice on target acquisition. So, is it possible to construct such a mission? I suppose target placement would be easy, just put down a bunch of tanks here, some trucks there, etc. Waypoint assignments could be simple as well, with, say, waypoint 3 being the practice area for bomb drops on vehicles, 4 being Kobuleti for bombing buildings practice, and 5 being the general area where other targets are (target acquisition practice). Maybe even a waypoint 6 with a trigger that when the player approaches within XXX distance, a ground unit will call for assistance for JTAC. Then theoretically, the player can load up the mission, select payload depending on what weapon he wants to study and play with, start the sim (in tarmac for ramp start practice as well, but with options for runway or air starts), and then make his way to whichever waypoint he wants to practice with his ordnance. The ability to land back at Bantumi and repair/refuel/rearm would be the best icing on this cake. An orbiting refueling aircraft for aerial refueling practice would be the cherry on top! Granted that I have no mission-editor experience or knowledge at all, is this possible, or is it just wishful thinking on my part? EDIT --- sorry for double-posting, I posted this first on the Tutorials forum but I think it belongs here more than there.

  24. twobells' costing of £46 sounds good. At the moment, I can print it out at £70 per manual, but that's a simple A4 normal print, two-sided, color laser. That's how I printed out my copy.
