  1. My perennial favorite topic. Does this mean that you volunteer? If anyone is interested, they should PM me or Alfa, we might have a project for them. http://www.ecf.utoronto.ca/~pavacic/lomac/skywars/airbases.jpg -SK P.S. "Armomia"? ;)
  3. Poor guy. Does all this hard work, and this is the thanks he gets. I'll give him a rep! (I guess now would be an ungrateful moment to note that the word "Georgia" isn't actually in Georgia...) What's with the nine-month bump? Is this connected to Britney's pregnancy? -SK
  4. Excellent idea! My congratulations and thanks for your research, -SK
  5. I think it has something to do with the Su-25 not having afterburners, and thus not requiring such strong braking, so you can use conventional hydraulically-powered brakes with an "axis" range of motion. Su-27 and MiG-29 need stronger brakes that are pneumatically actuated, you need to open and close a pneumatic pressure valve and thus don't have such precise control. You can often hear the metallic clank of the pneumatic valve opening when the aircraft starts to taxi. -SK
  6. Real Su-25. I assume (T) is the same. -SK
  7. Please check private messages. -SK
  8. Bump. 666th_birdy, TekaTeka - please check private messages. Thanks, -SK
  9. Does Medium actually remove any buildings? I was under the impression it only removed trees. -SK
  10. You can probably thank Shepski for that. ;) I lack rudder pedals so my nosewheel control may be subject to different issues than yours. Differential braking would have saved me dozens of Su-25. But then, so would a working nosewheel key. How do you land an airplane with no ground effect? Su-25(T) is an exception, it has toe brakes. -SK
  11. The situation with taxi, takeoff and landing is so different for AFM and SFM aircraft that I don't think this discussion can have any meaning unless all statements are preceded by what aircraft we are talking about. When I fly the Su-25 or Su-25T, I think I need differential toe brakes. Nosewheel steering doesn't seem to be enough, the AFM has me sliding all over the runway. Those of you flying any other aircraft - I think your opinions might change dramatically in favor of differential toe brakes when AFM comes to the plane you fly. Beware what you ask for... ;) -SK
  12. Check your source, this is totally wrong. MPCD = PACS + BIT. -SK
  13. Come on guys, quit showing off, he asked a perfectly valid question. aimmaverick: The best people to direct your request to are probably Shepski or Alfa, they are good at editing the payload files and know what can or can't be done. If Shepski can't get payloads included as part of the patch, no one can. -SK
  14. We interrupt this flamewar for a breaking SwingKid interview with the PR rep of... Evolved Games! SK: Thank y - hey, wait a minute... weren't you the same guy here yesterday doing PR for Eagle Dynamics? CA: Hello, my name is Ali and I'm from Evolved Games. And I would just like to say - there are NO problems with StarForce. Whatsoever. SK: Yeah yeah enough with that already, nobody cares. Ok so what really happened here? Did Evolved Games just burn a copy of NaturalPoint's Flaming Cliffs CD, or download it from ED's site instead of the 1.02 patch "by mistake," or make some kind of secret deal with ED..? Come on everybody wants to know - what's going on here? Where did you guys get Flaming Cliffs? CA: Please, don't be ridiculous. Flaming Cliffs is a Su-25T add-on for the Evolved Games flight simulator, "Lock On: Modern Air Combat." How could we steal an add-on for our own product?!? SK: What? Lock On isn't your product, it's ED's. You guys don't even list it as one of your products on your site. CA: Evolved Games has a diverse range of entertainment products for the X-Box and PlayStation 2. Like, JUDGE DREDD: Dredd vs. Death. SK: Yeah. CA: Exactly. SK: No, I mean - exactly. CA: Yeah. ... SK: No, I mean, if it's YOUR product, ok so what now, are YOU the guys now developing the v1.11 patch? Can you tell us if maybe the quantity of flares has changed? CA: Quantity of... What? There are NO FLARES in Baghdad! That's just... crazy, flare propaganda. SK (closing notebook): Weeell, that's all we have time for today. Tune in next time when we interview... Xicat Interactive? -SK
  15. Try explaining that to the guy you are asking to tell you the "real numbers." :) -SK
  16. And now, an exclusive SwingKid interview with the new Eagle Dynamics Representative of Public Relations. Please put your hands together in a warm welcome for everybody's favourite PR man: Comical Ali!! SK: Welcome to our studio, Mr. Ali. CA: Thank you, thank you, it's good to be here. SK: Mr. Ali, can you tell us why UbiSoft's "Lock On Gold" includes ED's "Flaming Cliffs," when everybody has been claiming up until now that it wouldn't? CA: Let's get one thing absolutely clear: there are NO PROBLEMS with StarForce. SK: Um, okay.. that wasn't my question, but all right... Why is UbiSoft selling the Lock On Gold bundle including both Lock On v1.02 and v1.1, for less than the price of Flaming Cliffs alone at either ED or NaturalPoint? Isn't that bad for business? CA: We spent an extra month of development time looking into alternate copy protection schemes, to make sure that legitimate users will have UNLIMITED RE-INSTALLS of the product. I repeat: uninstalling and re-installing Flaming Cliffs will NOT use up one of your registrations. SK: All right fine, let's talk about copy protection then. Is it true that users who purchase v1.1 from UbiSoft won't actually be able to use it, unless they contact StarForce for technical support? CA: You will ONLY need to use up one of your registrations if you change AT LEAST 40% of your hardware. SK (puts down clipboard): You're not really listening to my questions, are you. CA: All these people complaining about copy protection are really just pirates wanting to steal a free copy. You don't know anything about the software industry. There are pirates everywhere! SK: Are there pirates in Baghdad? CA: There are NO pirates in Baghdad!!! I'm telling you, that's just... crazy, pirate propaganda. SK (picks up clipboard again): I see... Moving right along. Can you tell us why the Russian version of Flaming Cliffs was priced at $7, while the English-language version was $35? CA: Flaming Cliffs should be released at the end of this month. SK: What? You are aware, Flaming Cliffs has already been released? CA: Early next month at the latest. SK: ED is selling it on their website. NaturalPoint is selling it. Now even UbiSoft is selling it! CA: All the code is finished and beta testing has stopped. SK: I'm a beta tester! Shouldn't I know, before the general public, if "testing has stopped?" CA: All that needs to be done is print up the CDs, ship them out, you know, a few minor things to put together. That sort of thing usually takes about one day, maybe two at the most. SK: Well, that's all the time we have for today. Thank you Mr. Ali, it certainly is nice to have some official answers for a change. We look forward to hearing from you in the future, enjoy your new position at ED and please, send them our regards! CA: My pleasure SwingKid. Please, call on me anytime you have questions, I'll be glad to help. SK: Well there you have it folks, an exclusive peek behind the scenes at some of the people and decisions working hard at ED to bring you the best possible entertainment experience. Remember, you heard it here first! -SK "You'll get the dynamic campaign from me, before you get it from ED"
  17. Guys, guys, I think we're all missing the point here. ED clearly and publically announced that the release date was {$release date}, delayed release by an all-important extra month to ensure that StarForce would cause "NO PROBLEMS" and all the whiney complainers were worrying about NOTHING, received continuous customer loyalty, support and goodwill on the forums, and proceeded to create a double-whammy copy-protection/purchase-method FUBAR disaster unparalleled in the history of software. All Ubi did was made a promise, get nothing but disbelief and accusations of false advertising from its customers, ED people, Evolved people, people named "Stormin," apparently even ITS OWN people... and without ONE WORD of excuses, explanations or protestations, simply... *gasp* delivered on its promise. Seriously, what's a money-grubbing large corporation that knows nothing about flight sims gotta DO to get us to like them?!? Ubi has feelings too you know. :( -SK
  18. Yes, it's a major grief for me, to not be able to see buildings that I'm shooting at. The only compromise is that if an object is designated as a target or mission goal, then it gets drawn a little farther out. But I think such an object should simply never turn invisible at any range. Individual objects were never the cause of the fps problem to begin with. -SK
  19. Considering that you describe reducing terrain contrast as well as object contrast - how is that a "no" to my question? More to the point - drawing objects out to 50 km? I wish. Lock On cities are so dense the buildings need to become invisible already at 2-6 km. :( -SK
