  1. I have the Track Clip Pro on my headphones and it works perfectly... it's right at eye-level. I have a dedicated sim setup (an Obutto cockpit) and it's perfect for TrackIR.
  2. I want a Hawk!:pilotfly:
  3. That's really the way they are... Compare the F-35A: http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Air/Lockheed-Martin-F-35A/2225430/&sid=cfeaa3af9101450bbdf5f34138c8363e To the F-22: http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Air/Lockheed-Martin-F-22A/2234397/&sid=b7a2a276c959f50c83b3de5cb18c74d6 The F-35 doesn't have the sexiest profile, but viewing from the top or the bottom, she looks very sweet!
  4. Yes.. for both FS9 and FSX
  5. I have both... They are both equally impressive and there are things I like about each one: Milviz external model looks a little more realistic to me.. something about the textures just makes it seem a little more "solid". Since installing the SP 1.1, one thing I don't like about the Milviz version is the daytime afterburner representation.. It's just kind of "blah" with no depth or dynamic nature to it. It's very dark orange and it just doesn't look like an afterburner should look. The night burners are, by contrast, nice but WAY too bright. I think they're going to work on the afterners a little more. FPS with the Milviz version (for me) are just fine. The flight model is just a little over-powered, but I rememdied that by changing the thrust scalar from 1.0 to 0.85. The sounds are spot-on! There's a "quick start" option in the cockpit for those who want to load up and go without waiting for GC alignment or to bypass the start checklist. The Iris model, on the other hand, has superb afterburners, however if you engage the burners, you'll over-temp the engine within 30 seconds and lose both engines to engine fires. So far, that's killed almost every flight I've made. The flight model on this one seems a little over-powered, as well. I do like the MFD screens in the cockpit of the Iris bird just a little bit better than the Milviz version. They look crisper and much more realistic. Same for the HUD. The sounds are good, but I think the Milviz sounds are just a little better. FPS on the Iris version are very good as well. The startup procedure is pretty simple, however there's no "quick start" option.. so it'll take about 5 minutes to run through the start checklist and get GC alignment before you can taxi. The VC in both versions are works of art! Very well done and on par with the Superbug (and even the DCS A-10C!) Unfortunately, I haven't delved into the weapons systems of either one yet... I just haven't had the time to go that far. But from what I hear, they both have their strengths and weaknesses. Both, however, do push the limits of FSX and are excellent! I honestly can't say that I prefer one over the other yet... but once the SPs are out and I've gone deeper into the systems, I'm sure a leader will emerge.
  6. You probably want to be in this forum: http://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=101 If it has anything to do with home cockpit design, these people will know and help! :-) Good luck!!!
  7. Serial: 01518 Location: Washington DC
  8. That's a Colt M4A1 carbine - standard issue for the US military. It's an evolution of the original M-16. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4_carbine :-)
  9. Thanks Paul, It wasn't that difficult to paint, however it is only a "static" texture and the reflection is painted on... I don't know enough about how the DCS engine handles reflective textures and dynamic reflection maps, so for the time being, it's just a painted reflection. If you fire the gun, the map will rotate with the barrel, but since the gun isn't actually fired during the demo, it won't make that much of a difference. If I can figure out how to add a dynamic environment map or a reflective property to it, I'll update it later on!
  10. Unfortunately, there isn't a separate paint kit for the Europe 1 camo scheme... you'll have to use the grey paint kit and create your own. The easiest way to do that would be to take one of the existing Europe 1 camo skins, save each individual file out as a BMP or TGA and then place that file into a layer in the corresponding PSD file for that texture, and then use that as a guide for painting the pattern in Photoshop. I seriously doubt that ED will be providing a separate kit for just the Europe 1 scheme (especially since it isn't used in real life any longer) so the method I described above is really the only way to go. Sorry....
  11. Thanks for the comments, guys! I'll upload both the East and West skins over the weekend!
  12. This is a skin I'm working on ond I thought I'd post a couple of shots. I'm not quite finished with it, but it's almost there. This is represents one of the two ACC East Demo team aircraft flown by Maj. Dylan "Habu" Thorpe. Obviously, it's not entirely correct, since the demo aircraft have a few less pylons and a couple of other modifications, but... since I can't change the model, it'll have to do for now! If there's any interest in it, I'll upload it when I'm done. I'm still fiddling with the chrome texture on the GAU-8. I'll probably do the ACC West team aircraft as well. UPDATE: I've finished the East & West Demo Teams skins and will upload them this weekend. I've added screens of the finished skins below with close-ups of the chromed GAU-8 Avengers.
  13. That'd be awesome.. thanks so much!
  14. Re-read my post...
  15. Yep... that was one of the first things I removed...
  16. Hi All, I've been practicing the ACC A-10 demo routine in the sim, however the only AFI document I can find for it is from 2002 and I know that while most of the maneuvers haven't changed, the order in which they occur and the transitions between them have, so I'm wondering if anyone knows the exact order of the current demo routine maneuvers (as of 2011) I missed seeing the routine in person at Andrews during the Joint Services Open House and I've not found a full video of the routine from this year on YouTube, so I don't know what, if anything, has changed in the routine since last year. Also.. a question of performance as it relates to the DCS A-10C... Some of the demo maneuvers specify a target entry speed of 400 KCAS, however I have never been able to get the DCS A-10 to reach speeds any higher than 360 KCAS, even in benign weather conditions, no external stores and with the recommended fuel load for the demo routine (3500lbs). Aside from the slow pass and the landing, the entire routine is flown at max power, but I've never been able to achieve anything above 360 KCAS. I use a TM Hotas Warthog and it is properly calibrated, however I still can't seem to get the aircraft even close to 400 KCAS... the most of the maneuvers that specify the 400 KCAS target entry speed begin from level, unloaded flight, so it's obviously possible to to it in the real machine, however I can barely get above 360 KCAS in level flight, even after unloading from a steep dive. Anyone else notice this or is there something I may be missing in the setup that would hinder me from reaching this speed? Just to be clear, the inability to reach 400 KCAS doesn't prevent me from executing the routine.. I'm able to perform all of the maneuvers with adequate margins that are well above the prescribed minimums, but just to be able to fly the routine by the numbers, I'd like to be able to get the aircraft to at least hit the 400 KCAS mark. Thanks in advance to any of you who can shed light on my questions! - Greg
  17. I have a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5... 24GB is the maximum RAM this particular board can handle :) My video card is an EVGA GeForce GTX 460 2GB. My RAM is Patriot Viper Xtreme DDR3 1600 6x4GB. I should also mention that this particular computer is totally dedicated to flightsimming ONLY! There's nothing installed beyond my simming software (DCS, LockOn FC, and FSX) That keeps all the garbage software off the system and allows it to run very lean. Very few processes and resources running in the background and no other software programs running. It also prevents viruses and software conflicts. I have an exact duplicate of this system that I do everything else on (i.e. Photo/video editing, web browsing, software downloading etc..) and a third system that acts as my home server.
  18. Sure... why not? RAM is pretty cheap these days!
  19. Thanks for the kind words, everyone! I'm glad you all like the shots! My computer setup is pretty normal: i7 920 OC @ 4.0 nVidia 460 GTX 2GB 24 GB RAM Windows 7 64-bit. I use a 42" Samsung 1080p LED HDTV as a monitor with TrackIR 5 and the TM Warthog HOTAS. DCS: A-10C runs smooth as silk on my machine and always has since the beta version! I don't really keep track of FPS, however I never have any stutters, lag or any other performance issues. @marc15yo: No special settings for the sim... I'm running the 64-bit version with most of the settings at either medium or high. I'm also using the modified HDR fx that's floating around the forum here. I use the HARD setting with that. The only post-process work I did on them was a bit of sharpening and to crop/resize them. It's really all about setting up the weather and time of day to get the right atmosphere for these kinds of shots. I don't remember the exact weather settings, however I set the mission time to 06:00 and the season to autumn. When I get a chance, I'll go back and look at the mission weather settings to see what they were. It's really all about experimentation and then adjusting the camera angles to get the best shot. @JEFX: Thanks for the compliment! It's funny that you say I have a photographer's eye because part of my career (in the civillian world) is as an aviation photographer. I'm the creative head of an advertising agency that does a lot of work for EADS/Airbus, Lockheed-Martin, General Dynamics and most of the other large aerospace companies, so I do A LOT of air-to-air photography! :-)
  20. Just some random shots from a few different flights. I really liked the mood that the weather created - nice early morning mist hanging along the coast... I threw in some AAR action as well. Just my own little tribute to the guys at ED for creating this masterpiece! Enjoy!
  21. Yep... I'm getting the same thing. He'll call a target but the bearing info is always clipped-off - not that we really need it (since the text is there) I've also noticed that phrases like "I'm hit" or "Ejecting!" are cut-off as well...
  22. Yeah.. I think it's only GS you can specify... I tried creating a mission and set the tanker speed to 250kt and it sets the speed to around 178KIAS I still can manage to stay connected, but it requires much more power management and constant trimming/re-trimming when you're gradually slowing down while trying to match your speed to the tanker.
  23. I understand the difference between indicated and true airspeed (I'm an IRL pilot).. what I'm saying is that the tanker is definitely slowing down... whether it's the speed indicated on the HUD or the ground speed shown on the info bar, the speed decreases as the refueling progresses... If I replay a track, I can switch to an outside view, look at the info bar and watch the speed steadily decrease during the course of refueling. If I stay in-cockpit and watch the HUD, the speed will decrease over the course of refueling. If the tanker was maintaining speed, then both indications would remain constant throughout. They aren't, though...the tanker definitely decreases speed by around 10-20kt the entire time I'm connected.
  24. Has anyone else noticed that the tanker gradually reduces speed over the course of refueling? If I go to pre-connect with the tanker at, let's say, 250kt, by the time I have connected and finished the fuel transfer, the tanker has slowed to 180kt. It makes it very difficult to manage speed and stay connected when the tanker is gradually reducing speed. I don't seem to recall this being an issue in previous versions. I should add that this is without any wind, turbulence or other weather interference.
