Moving the open beta installation into a new drive
Galwran replied to Galwran's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Would it function by just with copy-paste or should I uninstall? I betting I should... -
Just to cast in my two cents: clearly, we do accept unrealistic "tier 2" even now in DCS and in many other simulations. For example having Kuznetsov in F4 AF or having a simulator of the Comanche in the first place. Also, there are a lot of things that might not currently be realistic, but would be plausible in the case of a large shooting war. For example, mounting a rudimentary RWR on tha Ka-50 would be plausible, and giving a handheld GPS receiver to Mi-8 and Su-25 pilots has been already tried in conflict zones. Also, carrying triple mavericks with the A-10 is no-go, but in a Fulda gap-scenario it would work. So I'm all for plausible possibilities and house rules on servers. Like no nukes or Triple mavs. So, I'm not for silliness, but if we have to have a war simulation, then we also have to make some assumptions and call it 2025 scenario or something :) Maybe the mods could move this in to a separate thread; I'd say this is not only about the advertised AA missiles of the Ka-50.

Reducing the number of missiles on the Ka-50 (not air-to-air missiles!)

Or when the supply is low, or if there are a lot of battles in a short period. -
Hight-adjustable joystick-stand from a $15 IKEA table.

I clamped them in to my table. They are excellent now, with room for a mouse. -
Problem with warthog throttle - flickering inputs
Galwran replied to Witchking's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
flickering inputs solved with soldering I've occasionally had the "flickering inputs" problem, especially on the right throttle axis and boat switch. This time it became too bothering in A-10C because I "china hat forward-long" didn't work correctly. So I opened the base again. I knew that that the blue wire on the ribbon cable was a bit dented, but I always thought that it was not broken. This time I cut away the damaged part and soldered some new wire. No more flickering :) I'm no electrician, but I believe that the blue wire is the ground. Buttons worked even when the wire was cut, but they flickered. You know how it is: having problems with hardware is one thing, but if you don't know what causes the problems then you go nuts :) So I was quite happy to see immediate effect with the new wire. -
Galwran's no missiles mod for Russian tanks

Nice to hear that you like it:) I tried to do the same treatment for the BMP-1 but I haven't been successful yet. -
Galwran's no missiles mod for Russian tanks
Galwran replied to Galwran's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I haven't tried in multiplayer, but I believe that all parties must have the mod. Thus it is suggested that you use JSGME for easy mod enabling/disabling. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98607 I believe that same goes for Ranger79s excellent unit & hesco pack -
Galwran's no missiles mod for Russian tanks
Galwran replied to Galwran's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
...and before anyone says that this is cheating: relax, I'll be using those tanks on both sides. I just wan't to have large engagements where the air element is the key factor. Currently that is hard because even T-72s destroy everything that they spot. This mod is just a quick and dirty fix until ED gives us complex stores management for ground vehicles. With this mod I can have for example 20 T-72s defending while 8 M1A2s with heavy air support plow through. Gotta play with my toys in the sand :) -
Possible to set Tunguska state to AAA fire only?
Galwran replied to -VSAAF- Sender's topic in User Created Missions General
So that you know, I made a mod for this:http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=144976 -
Galwran's no missiles mod v0.9 This mod adds versions of T-72B, T-80U and T-90 tanks that do not have ATGM capability. The idea of this mod is that even though most Russian tanks are able to fire ATGMs, they are often exported to countries that do not purchase ATGMs. In some situations even Russian tanks might be running low on missiles; for example after prolonged fighting. Other motivation to create the mod was that the flat terrain of DCS makes missiles way too powerful and it is difficult to create balanced missions because M1A1s and Leopard 2s get wiped out before they can even return fire. This mod balances the sim greatly and you can create huge tank battles, yay! :) For serious missions it is suggested that you use both regular versions of the tanks and the nm (nm=no missiles) versions in mixed formations in so that there are a few "elite" units with better supply. The units are added to every country and can be found under "Armor" with the following names. T-72B nm T-80UD nm T-90 nm This mod is JSGME compatible. http://tjejou.kapsi.fi/dcs/Galwrans%20no%20missiles%20mod%200.9.zip This mod was motivated by these threads: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=144777 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2234733 The only difference to the earlier version is that I added the line "add_surface_unit(GT)" to the end of files so I didn't have to edit the db_countries.lua. I'll have to thank Ranger79 for that solution :)

How to implement mobility kills for ground vehicles

How to implement mobility kills for ground vehicles
Galwran replied to Galwran's topic in How To Mod for DCS World
Ok, thanks. Sure, Mbot made something similar (http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=107635) but that does not account the level of damage. -
I'm frustrated that we don't currently have mobility kills in game. I understand that a health based system without proper location damage is not perfect for it, but could mobility kills be modeled with some clever scripting? For example: a unit that has only 10% of health left will stop moving but will continue firing. A unit with 5% of health left will stop functioning but will not explode. The benefit is that you cannot tell, so you (or the AI) would have to waste some ordnance just to be sure :) I know, this is not a super realistic solution, but might be better than nothing. Even with this solution it would be rare to get a mobility kill (because mavericks etc tend to destroy the vehicle) but it would still add some variance at least when doing rocket runs or missing with bombs. Any proficient scripters here? :)

Possible to set Tunguska state to AAA fire only?
Galwran replied to -VSAAF- Sender's topic in User Created Missions General
I had exactly the same need. Many countries got T-72s without any missiles. And supplies could be low elsewhere. Here is a solution, I wish that some would make this in to a proper JSGME addon. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2234733#post2234733 -
Possible to set Tunguska state to AAA fire only?
Galwran replied to -VSAAF- Sender's topic in User Created Missions General
By settings in game, no. By editing files, yes. I am personally waiting for complex stores management for the ground units so that we could simulate a situation in which a SAM battery has depleted most of it's missiles, every T-72 isn't equipped with missiles, etc. -
Thats OK, thanks for the clarification. Well, at least I got some off-road experience too  before I tried the w key.
-
Sorry to tread-jack, but I noticed the same thing. I also noticed that wheel brake axes do not work (even when inverted) so you could say that my landings were pretty hot :P

If they can self-designate LGBs, then yes.

Have you thought about the license model for the F-14s and the WSO/RIO functionality? Most of us fanboys will of course buy the module, but I for one have a lot of friends with inadequate flight sim hardware and I'm certain that they will not buy a full price module. However, even though they lack proper HOTAS and such, they are interested in simulators. What if us, the aviators, could do something for this? Let's say that the full module will cost 50$. It would be great, if for extra 20$ you could expand your license so that anyone with the basic DCS World (maybe even without any paid modules) would be able to jump in as a WSO/RIO. Any thoughts?

I wasn't talking about the convenience of on person, than you very much. And there is a pause in multiplayer. I was talking about flying complex and long scenarios WITH FRIENDS against AI. In Falcon 4, you could save the session after a few sorties and continue the same battle on a later date without having to start from the beginning. That way we could even simulate dynamic campaigns; first you would fly a couple of SEAD missions, and later attack the ground troops while your friend flies top cover. Currently you can hop in to any vacant allied (supported) vehicle during the mission, and even in planes that are already airborne, so there would be no trouble in continuing a "frozen/saved mission".

Will C-101CC Come With Anti-Ship Missile?
Galwran replied to inSky_1911CFZS's topic in DCS: C-101 AvioJet
I believe that there was no need for a datalink. The spotter plane would fly alongside the plane carrying the sea eagle. When the spotter found the target with radar, they would radio the bearing to the plane carrying the sea eagle. The missile would be fired in an automatic mode, ie. it would hit for example the biggest target on it's path. This is also in the wikipedia entry Wikipedia (yes I know, wikipedia....) Once launched the Sea Eagle is completely autonomous, with the flight and target seeking completely controlled by the on-board computer system which functions according to programmable options covering a large set of cruise, search and attack options, including a simple, pre-programmed 'point and shoot' mode that allows it to be carried by basic aircraft without radar, using targeting information radioed to the pilot from external sources or even visually located by him, with the missile's short minimum range assisting this. But don't quote me on this one :) -
This is needed also for multiplayer. I don't care if it is not cheat-proof; there is no cheating between my friends when we fly co-op.
-
I had this issues where I had to first uncheck the setting. That was after 45 minutes of firewall configs... that were not needed  http://lotatc.dartsite.org/projects/lotatc/knowledgebase/articles/3
