More World War 2 goodies on the way as well, as you could probably tell from the latest newsletter :)

Why is everything so small in DCS VR?
Glowing_Amraam replied to TAW_Impalor's topic in Virtual Reality
I believe what you are experiencing here is something called "camera terrain restriction". It's there so the camera won't pass through the terrain. In other words, the "camera", or your viewpoint, will not go lower than whatever this restriction is set to. It's possible to turn this completely off though. Just go to *where you installed DCS \Config\View - then open "server.lua" file. Look for the line "CameraTerrainRestriction". Next to it is the word "true". Change this to "false" and save the file (using notepad or something). When in-game, the camera is free to go as low (and beyond) as you want. And in turn will most likely fix this "height" issue. ;) -

GTX1080 who is buying it?
Glowing_Amraam replied to hannibal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
People who pre-order the card here in Norway will have their card shipped to them on June 10 as far as I can tell (at least from some online stores). -
GTX1080 who is buying it?
Glowing_Amraam replied to hannibal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'll most likely end up with the 1080 myself, going from my GTX 780Ti is going to be a huge jump in performance (in general, not just for DCS). :) -
^^^^^ That article is over 1 year old now.
-
Just curious, why do you state this? In the overall gaming market Nvidia is doing pretty good if you ask me. Unless I am reading this out of context?
-
There won't be a CV 2 this year, and probably not next year either. Could be wrong though. :)
-
It works, this has been the "recenter view" key for like 10 years or something (or more) :D
-
Nice one! :)
-
Nice screenshots, and I agree, when you are wearing the headset (DK 2 in my case) I don't notice the image to be "that bad" at all, so the screenshots are mainly "pointers", and the difference from the DK 2 vs the CV 1 is very noticable, and in a good way of course! :) Edit: Here's a screenshot from the HTC Vive (Super large mind you!): And Rico's screenshot: Camera focus and all that aside, they are pretty comparable. :)
-
Just wondering, have you tried any VR headset?
-
Go to where you installed DCS World, then go to \Config\View folder. Open the "server.lua" fila using notepad or something, look for this line: CameraTerrainRestriction = true Change the value to "false" so it looks like this: CameraTerrainRestriction = false Save the file and close it. Now the camera in-game will literally go through the ground, and you can achieve shots like that. :)
-
Not to mention that the CV 1 is also more comfortable to wear. Plus the camera has a wider FOV for tracking.
-
^^^^ Actually, this is the best way: When the mission begins, and you are on the ground, runway, whatever - hit CTRL-F11, and you are now in the "free cam view". Move the camera to wherever you want, ground, air, doesn't matter. Now hit CTRL-F3 and the camera will start following (tracking) your plane (or whatever object the camera was locked to in the first place). Obviously this is best for track files, but if you "accidently" switch to another viewpoint, as in the Cockpit, F2 view, normal F3 flyby view - it doesn't matter. When you press the F11 key again you will be back to where you placed the camera in the first place.

This may be interesting to some, regarding the "screen door effect". Also check out some of the images from the description to see some still images (though to be honest, I can't even remember them beeing that "visible" in the Oculus DK 2. And as he states: "To answer the question in three words: It is fine. Not as bad as the DK1 or DK2. Which is to be expected in a consumer VR headset."). [ame] [/ame]

S7 edge screen: 1440 x 2560 pixels (when flipped horizontaly its 2560 x 1440). Rift screen: 2160 x 1200 Or am I totally missunderstanding something? :D Also, don't forget: "The Rift and Vive both come outfitted with vibrant OLED displays, each of which offers 1080 x 1200-pixel resolution for each eye. Said displays bring the final pixel resolution to 2160 x 1200, with 90Hz refresh rates".

^^^^ I've had the DK2 since 2014, and the view is not distorted at all inside the rift. Same for the Vive. The FOV is around 100 on the DK2, bumped up to approx 110-ish for the Rift/Vive CV1. Oh and to fill in, I have the Samsung S7 Edge phone, and I got the Samsung Gear VR shipped with the phone, and the display on the phone is pretty identical to what you will see inside the Rift/Vive. The SDE is less than that of the DK2, but it's not gone. But once you're immersed in the game, you quickly forget about it, so for CV 1 this is not an issue (IMO).
-
A quick "workaround" for this would be (in the Vive's case at least, maybe Rift as well) to have pre-made "locations" for you to stand in, placed at various places on the ground around the plane of your choice. From there you have that 15x15 feet (or however small/big it can be) to walk around, and by clicking a button, you are instantly teleported to the next "section" (a section of your own choice maybe) and to walk around and inspect there. This way you can, in fact, inspect the entire plane from the ground, in VR, in your bedroom. :) Other games i've seen is already using this "teleportation" thing to move around in the VR world.

I've had probably 15 people tried my DK 2 here, and the only time someone got a little motion sickness was either because of judders, an insane theme park ride (Cyberspace is awesome) or that they were playing an FPS game for the first time using VR, which takes some getting used to (IMO at least).
-
Well, my only experience is with the DK2, and though I don't get motion sick with fps less than 75, the judder and "jerkiness" is extremely annoying, and it kind of is a strain on the eyes as well. And you could get very easily motion sick from it, obviously. But when it's smooth, which it basically have to be to be able to enjoy VR, it's not an issue whatsoever, and it probably isn't going to be an issue for most people. :)

"5" key on your numpad on the keyboard.

I've had the DK2 since the dev kits shipped, and I have never had any issues whatsoever. People get motion sick for various reasons, but people also get sick just by riding a car and not beeing able to see the road... It will be an issue for some people, but for most people it will not be an issue. I've played maybe 50+ different VR demoes/games, from DCS, to FPS shooting and anything in between. For me, no issue, and you get used to how "it works" by looking around and moving around with the keyboard/controller or whatever. But for games, such as where you move around using your own body, motion sickness would barely be an issue as long as you dont get any judders etc. That's my take on it anyway. I can't wait for these things to be released! :)
