A simple and brief summary:
F2 view for external shots of planes/choppers (Press Left ALT-F2 to "detach" the camera from panning around the object to be able to look around at the placed camera position).
F3 view for flybys (also for flybys of the selected object in F2 view).
CTRL-F11 for "free cam" mode, to place the camera wherever you want.
F7 is for vehicles, and F9 is for boats/ships.
You can also use the F2/F7 view and zoom the camera away from the selected object, and then use the "Left ALT-F2" function to look wherever you want and create some more "dynamic" shots - meaning that the camera could be attached to a tank (example) but your camera is looking at something else, and if the tank is moving you will get some dynamic shots.
