would 3 1/2 deg be the same as the ILS glideslope?

Bankler's CASE 1 Recovery Trainer
GrEaSeLiTeNiN replied to Bankler's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Hi, after I trap, I choose the next one in the slot (another F18) but it starts with the TACAN not set up, and the hook, anti-skid and ALT switches are all up. Reactivating TACAN in F10 menu does not put the TACAN back. Is this how it is supposed to be? -
FCR Zoom and C-Scope

Just thinking out loud - would be great if these modules could be 'opened up' to the community after a set number of years, to fix any remaining bugs the developers won't fix and possibly enhance the module further. Like what a talented few, motivated not by money, did with that other sim.

Best way to start landing procedure? Plus the ballooning issue
GrEaSeLiTeNiN replied to Drevin's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Have you tried Bankler's CASE I recovery training mission? It prompts you on the pattern parameters (speed, alt, config, etc) and grades you. Pretty cool. Keep doing it and you'll start remembering the numbers. Yeah the full flaps ballooning is quite annoying. Some have said they only go full flaps when well below 200kts so the ballooning effect is less. The other bit you might have to look at later is the burble at the carrier's stern (if turbulence was turned on in the mission editor). Discussed here. -
I agree. When the F-15E first came out I asked a bunch of questions in the F-15E forum here but got no RB/ED response and was advised later to use their discord. Why should I? This is the official forum and RB is obliged to respond to and support their customers here like everyone else. Are they not? Discord is fine for those who want to use it and does have some merit. But as you said it's just a running chatroom of mixed topics and not a suitable repository of info for learning. RB can discord all they want but they have a duty here as well. ED should manage them better in this regard.

Some real world F18 carrier landings HUD view. This one with quite a bit of burble I presume. This one with what seems like little to no burble.
-
Landing with about 33,000lbs, 21 kts wind reciprocal to BRC, turbulence (discussed here) set at '19', I get quite a noticeable float and pitch up. Kind of messes up the final secs for me. Sometimes I feel like my landings are more like I landed near the stern, then rolled along on 3 wheels and happened to catch a wire. (I'd have to review the track to see if that indeed happened.)
-
Couple of questions: 1. I read the burble simulated in DCS is activated with the turbulence option in the ME. Is this still true today? 2. When I approach the stern, the E bracket dips momentarily (pitch up) due to the burble. But does it always cause a pitch upwards only? 3. I've watched a few real life F18 HUD view carrier landings on YouTube and noticed this E bracket dipping also, though not in all cases. What should the pilot do at the burble? Ignore it? Thanks!

You completed the JTAC 9-line with a "cleared hot" from JTAC? Did your LST crosshair settle itself on the target after scanning around? A track would be most helpful. (The auto lase script targets marked with red smoke are different as they do not require 9-line and use a different laser code 4121)
-
Yes that's right...

Rear only but there are key binds for pilot that magically reach behind to flip the switch IIRC

Sure!

It can be a bit finnicky. I have come across instances where I set a JTAC with clear LOS to two assigned targets but the JTAC just refused to give me Type 1 or 2 but always Type 3 (no marking) for one of the targets. I could not figure out why. [If you have the South Atlantic map, and if you like, you can try my test training mission here that is working as far as I can tell. It includes a Reaper and Stryker with assigned lased targets, and a Predator that uses Auto Target and Lase (MIST/CTLD scripts, ie. 9-line procedure not required). In the Mission Editor Triggers, just reset the DO SCRIPTS for MIST and CTLD to point to where you unzipped and saved the mist.lua and CTLD.lua files. Select the slot with Alpha 2 Apaches as they are armed with laser HFs so the JTAC can't ask for Radar HFs. But change the PRI and LST codes to CHAN 3/C (4121) when engaging targets lased by the Predator (red smoke). The Reaper and Stryker use the default 1688 laser code.] Apache Shark Hind Gazelle TGT Trg - SA Ushuaia.zip

Also check JTAC doesn’t get killed by enemy forces that see it or becomes preoccupied with shooting at enemies they see. Make them invisible and weapons hold. LOS is critical. Run your mouse cursor over map from JTAC to target to see if there is any rise in terrain altitude somewhere along the way that could block their LOS.

To avoid the loading process when starting DCS, I have often left a training mission in pause, hibernated the PC and then resumed where I left off the next day. And the mission seems to continue fine. Just curious if anyone else does this. Any glitches one might expect?

Regarding the glideslope, I have a question. I've watched some YouTube ACLS landings, including Wags. I noticed the FLOLS ball falls below the green datum lights or glideslope (see video) when the aircraft approaches the ramp even though the VV is above the horizontal needle in the HUD. But the aircraft still catches the 3rd wire. Manual landings in such instances would normally catch the 2nd wire from what I have seen. Can anyone explain why? Because I presume the ACLS is doing a 'good textbook' landing here.

New Patch system, but more Bugs (F16). Dear ED, what's going on?
GrEaSeLiTeNiN replied to Nedum's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
IMO, it all boils down to ED having too much on their plate (and that plate keeps piling on with new EA modules every year) and the fact that we are in a perpetual beta sim environment. That's just the way it is with this sim. If every module could have the attention and focus we saw in Deka's JF-17 development (except for the lack of an English manual to date!) that would be awesome. -
Digital Crew Cheif (DCC) is a lot of fun.
GrEaSeLiTeNiN replied to RyanR's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Yeah it's a quick to fly minimalist version of a dynamic campaign. You can pair it with Olympus if you haven't tried it yet. Would be improved if they could add an option to change the default loadout and have more varied A-G targets. -
What is the diff between having the PTRK or ATRK or CMPT (near bottom right push button, TGP) boxed and unboxed? Why does it become unboxed after designation?

Check if this thread helps.

What is with the lines to targets in Datalink SA page?
GrEaSeLiTeNiN replied to dmatt76's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Was reviewing the TXDSG recently. ED and Chucks' manuals have not been updated on this. I watched my AI wing fox 3 some targets. His TXDSG line is initially dotted but goes solid after he says "fox 3" and then it goes back to dotted again before impact. It never flashes. (And you never see any lines from non flight members.)
