  1. BS is a living product still in development. A minor change in a component may represent a change in it's respective section of the manual (for any reason: mistake on typing, better explanation, whatever); so in my honest opinion it's better to release a manual when it's at 100% done.
  2. "this action isn't possible with flamming cliff. too bad." . Debate? Where?. Please, there's a big difference between wishes and judgment. Thanks LastRifleRound for your objectivity. "Everyone were awating for a dynamic campaign" Don't put the words of some people on ED's mouth. They've never said it will be on BS. Don't overhype the product, please. It'll be great, but it's just a combat-helo sim.
  3. Hi guys, We have a discussion on our team and we need some illustrated catalogs of parts from hellicopters. It's a general question, there's no need to be military specific. We'll apreciate very much is someone can send a couple links to PDF files. Thank you very much ;)
  4. ED is a company, not a team. No, it's not possible with FC. "Too bad?" Why? If you don't like it, move your ass and do yourself a simulator.
  5. Hi guys. Can some admin add support for spanish character set on the forums? The translation looks horrible due to this! Some chars has been replaced with strange symbols! Thanks
  6. No, it's not modelled.
  7. First of all, as Wags said, they're finishing the new ME. Wait until it's done to know what it can do and what it can't; and how. Compatibility? It's hard because it's new from scratch. Expect to not be compatible, and if at final it's compatible, better for all. About the copy protection that screw up... I have some different copy protection installed on my system and without problems, more than two of the same type. And personally I agree that it could be cool to add multimedia material to the campaigns and missions :)
  8. Little correction. Review posts, please. Are done by third parties, but with ED approval (quality, unit needed, and those things). All the units are reviewed and corrected many times before being implemented, and also it's time ED wastes on this, not only the artists. Great artists are spending tons of hours doing those models. Just a few words to recognize their great job. Thanks for doing it.
  9. It's a known bug once you have installed Vegas. It's a codecs issue, I think. Don't know why, but with Vegas on, sound off. Vegas uninstalled and sound comes back. It doesn't happen everytime so it's hard to know exactly how to fix it. Anyone knows?
  10. First of all, don't take my comments on a defensive way. I want people to improve when doing videos. If you do another video, I'm sure everyone will be pleased if the quality improves. Not only visual quality. And of course, and more important, those comments are not only for you, are also for all this people that works very much to do a video, and are very happy after finishing them because they have accomplished personal goals, but objectively have not the result the creator thinks it have. After long time seeing those videos and don't saying anything, I expect those comments are for all of them, not only for you. Don't make it something personal. What I want is everyone to learn and improve, keep that in mind. First of all, don't talk of it as a movie. Or short. It's just a dogfight sequence. What kind of movie has the bar? Or the final press Esc to quit? That's worst than amateur. There's no history. Only a fight sequence and a landing. Boring. Seen tons of videos like this. Or just wanted people know how good you are in a dogfight? Sorry, Top Gun there is only one. Tell spectators something on the video. See Bill et John movies. Their success is not based on lockon clips, is what they tell to spectators using that sim. It's another world. You have just flight and tried to do a video with the trk. It's a big mistake. First you have to know what do you want (an script) and after that, prepare the missions for take the clips that you need, not on the other way. Doing a good video is not something can be done in one or two days. It can take weeks or months, depending of your skills with the editing programs and, of course, your free time. What is a movie without initial and final credits? They are easy to do. You use the same song. Maybe you like it. But I don't think is addecuate for dramatic moments (been hit, for example). Use more sounds. Sounds have to synchronize to what is seen, not in the other way. That's called audio editing. The sounds are always the last thing that is added to a movie. Also the editing. Let's talk about one person that is more important than the director: the editor. The editor works with the material the director has given. The editor has to know how many seconds has to have an scene to transmit the feelings he wanted to. Usually a director is very happy with a 20 seconds clip, due to it was very difficult to get them. The editor uses only 5. 20 seconds make spectators bored, 5 are enough. Think as you were three different persons. When you have the idea of the movie, think about what do you want to tell, what happens. Don't think in camera angles. Write all those ideas on a paper or electronic format and organize them. When you direct, take the best material you can, following the script. The script has to tell you what happens, but not how do you represent it on the movie. You are who read the script and think about what is telling you and how do you transform it on clips. Third, the editor. The director (yourself in this case) has given to you tons of clips and with them you have to do a nice movie. As said before, don't matters how difficult was to take the 20 seconds clip of the example. Matters what will think spectators. (We). I expect this will help you all, not only you. Sorry if you understand in an offensive way, it's not my intention.
  11. 30 is recommended. With 24-26 it's difficult but can get problems of slideshow if for casuality some clip slows more than expected your computer when recording (the biggest moment of an explision for example). My first movie was a big mistake in this way, 50 fps used with the ingame recorder. Some people get real trouble to reproduce the movie because their computers and/or software get crazy at those fps. I uploaded at 1024x768x50 at google video and no one was able to see it; just a noob error :D Also, if you want to set the resolution to make like an 16:9 or similar, remember that set the ratio to 1:1 (square pixels) if it's propossed to be seen on a computer.
  12. My old system until four days ago (power supply burned all the mo-bo and vga) was: AMD64 3200+ Gigabyte K8NS-Ultra939 Nforce 3 4 GB DDR2 Kinston 266 (i'm not secure about the speed) PC3200 Point-of-View Nvidia 6800GT 256 MB AGP 1 SATA Seagate 250 GB 1 IDE Seagate 120 GB Sound Realtek (comes with the mo-bo) Ethernet connection also from the mo-bo And the peripherals (Saitek Pro Rudders, CH Fighterstick and CH Pro Throttle) Now the changes are: AMD64x2 5200 Asus M2V (think Via Chipset) 2 GB Kingston DIMM 667 Asus EN8600GT 256 MB DDR3 Silent Sound and eth from the mo-bo Of course, another power supply 550W Rest the same as before
  13. I got until three days an AMD64 3200+ and didn't have your problems. It's really strange your situation... Sorry for not could help anymore.
  14. Your ISP with packet loss due to the fast path, the server is overloaded or the server connection until your ISP (nothing to do with this option). Not necessary has to be your computer or your connection until your local hub of the ISP. Remember that on xDSL distance to the hub of the ISP in your town or city has to be less than 1 KM. More length = packet problems. More than 4 KM = too many problems. First I recommend to check with another servers at different times; after that check if any process of your computer can be wrong and uses all CPU/GPU at specific moments. Norton security, for example, usually does with some configurations. We fly with worst connections, and maybe computers, and we don't have stuttering. A bit of lag sometimes, but it's because one member lives on Mexico and another on Canary Islands for example (too many distance to get a low ping) and not everybody has new hardware. For last, remember that when a player joins when the fly has begun, your computer has to load it's textures, etc because at launch moment they were not necessary. Also when someone throws chaffs and flares it asks for very CPU/GPU, making lag on the another clients machine, and due to this, on the network connection. I hope this could help you. Sorry for my poor English.
  15. Fighterstick and Pro Throttle there and never had your specific problem. Others, yes, but due to the Windows gets crazy with the distribution of the keys on the keyboard (donґt know if itґs a locale change or keyboard change or an USB crazyness)
  16. Do you have Sony Vegas installed? It was the cause of my problems time ago...
  17. He wants 1K (./joke) Sorry for the execute /run... it's just a feature of the spanish language. Sorry if repeat, but was only to ensure he got it :P And well..... the gateway of your pc's is the router. The gateway of the router is the ip of the equipment of your ISP that connects you to the internet. The possibility of have two ip's on the router it's due to Cisco's routers for example, works with cards. One card, one Nic. You can direct the traffic to one card or other assigning one ip to each. Usually for home there is only one ip for the whole router but well... I can't confirm that due to my xdsl router has only one physical port. The mask it's a number of 32 bits. It's an orientation that tells how has to be "played?" the ip and identifies the number of bits that especifies the computer net. 192.168.x.x it's a third level ip, so its mask has to be of the 255.255.255.x type; if you are not doing subnetting; but well... you assume it's 255.255.255.0 and you don't need nothing else for home.
  18. Let's see... A Hub is a device, externally similar to a router or a switch, but that only regenerates the signal. One port receive the signal and it just copy it to the rest. Usually they have 4-8 ports or a maximum of 16 (not recommeded 16). Remember, now we are talking of physical ports, where you plug the connector of the wire (RJ-45 type). Due to this, the bandwith is less. Switches read the packet that arrives at one port. This data packet has inside multiple things, but for now you have to know that it contains the MAC address of the destiny and the data that the application wanted to broadcast. Externally are no differences with the hub (apart of the model and vendor, of course). For home are models from 4-16 ports and for professional are from 24, 48 and ahead. The router are guided by ip's, superior level than MAC addresses, as I told before. How to create a basic LAN manually, so you can control the ip's assigned: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Now you have two computers wich at least one NIC each. (NIC = Network interface card, where you plug the connector.) Ok, each NIC has an ip, as you see on the ipconfig /all (IP address). Type on a paper or notepad the ip of your computer. Remember, this ip is called private ip. Repeat the step for the other computer. If they begin with 192.168.x.x everything it's ok. It they begin with another, maybe are automatically asigned by DHCP. Don't worry for this now. Ok, now you can see that when you do a ipconfig /all on each computer, they have a default gateway. That's the ip of the NIC of your router. (Two NIC's, cause are routers, not switches). Warning! It's possible that you have only one ip. Don't worry, use this in this case for both computers. (Depends of the vendor / model of your router). We assume you have the internet connection right and can navigate and this stuff. First of all it's enter on the configuration of the router and disable DHCP. (DHCP I explained on the previous post). How to enter? If your router it's relatively new, you'll use a webrowser (IE, Firefox...) and type http://192.168.1.1 or the ip that appeared as default gateway when you did the ipconfig /all. For more info read the manual or check the forums of your contry, sure there are more users that have your same router. Usually the user is 1234 and the pass the same. (You can change the pass easily) Now you have a welcome screen. In my case it shows this: Next step is disable DHCP and assign and own IP to the router (private, not public!). The ip can be 192.168.1.1 (standard ip) and the mask has to be of the type 255.255.255.0 In my case is on this screen: http://d3s1gn.net/lockon/2.png Remember to apply and save. Close your internet browser. Okay, now we have the router with an own and persistent ip, nor an automatic assigned by DHCP :) Time to configure our pc's. The first will have the ip 192.168.1.2 and the second will be 192.168.1.3 Our gateway (the router) is 192.168.1.1 as we have previously assigned. Remember to write your DNS, it's not necessary but always help. Go to your Control Panel of the Windows, and go to the properties of the local area network connection. Dont's know how it'll be in your language, but in spanish it's as the next screen: http://d3s1gn.net/lockon/3.png Ok. Check the tcp/ip and click on "Properties". Next screen will appear. Remember to click on OK. Now you have to repeat this step on the other computer, but with the ip 192.168.1.3 Well.... you have now a manually created LAN! :) Next step is to open the 10308 port on the router. Close your browser (if not done before) and reopen it to ensure the changes are reflected. (Now to enter it's http://192.168.1.1) You'll have somewhere a NAT section, where it has an option of "Virtual Servers". Here you add an application and open the 10308 port (the one that uses Lock On). See screen, and check your router's doc, forums or webpages of how to open ports if it's not similar to the one I have described) http://d3s1gn.net/lockon/6.png Remember to check your firewall software (ZoneAlarm, the one that comes with windows, etc) and allow Lock On to reach the net... Or just disable it if you want. And done! When you understand this stuff of the ip's you'll see it's easier to do a LAN than it seemed before. Easy, easy :) I hope this can help you or someone else. PS: Sorry, I read very well english, but write it's very different. Sorry for all the mistakes.
  19. Try Start/Execute, type cmd and press enter on windows XP. Now you are on the "console" . then type "ipconfig /all" (with the space and without the "). Here you can see: The ip of the network cards, the ip of the gateway, and other things you don't need. DHCP is a protocol that allows routers to negotiate the ip's automatically and assign them without need of you do anything.
  20. Some basics of networking. (let's see if my CCNA is fresh..., not acuratte description but I expect useful) The ip is an address used on routing. It allows network traffic to reach different locations. Each network card has an ip address. On switches only the switch uses ip, the rest is directed by the MAC address. In this case, your router has one called Public IP that is given to you by the ISP. It's the address used to "route" all the traffic that exits from your router to the ISP. There are the private ip's, used by each card. Your pc it's for example 192.168.0.2 Your brother's pc is 192.168.0.3 Both connect to the "Gateway". The Gateway is your router. It should have an 192.168.0.1 address. The router connects to the ISP using the Public IP. When a packet arrives to the router from the outside it has a way to know which application or computer has requested the data. By the MAC address and the logical ports. The Mac address is used to know which network card has requested the data, and the logical port to know which apllication has requested it. Each Network Card from the world has a unique MAC. (Network card = this thing where you plug the connector of the wire) Some routers doesn't route well by MAC to your LAN (yes, if you have two pc's connected to a router with multiple ports you have a lan). It's recommended that you change on one pc the logical ports that use Lock On, at least server. Also remember to access to your internal router configuration and OPEN the logical ports for both ip's (one ip per computer) on the NAT settings, due to the internal firewalls routers are used to have built-in. I expect to give a bit of light to some of you. It's not an 100% accurate info, sorry; a bit forgotten all that knowledgment.
  21. Hi. Just a detail. Have you checked the windows update, custom method? Hardware drivers are shown as hardware optional, and don't appear if you click on "fast" method, at least in Spain. Anyway, good luck.
  22. 1.2a does not exist for now. Or it's 1.02 (For Lock On) or it's 1.12a (For Lock On + Flaming Cliffs). Be sure to download the right patch of the 1.12a. Procedure: Install Lock on, install FC; copy all the content to another folder, install 1.12a over the original installation. Make the shorcut as you need for 1.1 (not patched). PD: 1.2 will be the Black Shark addon, that is currently on development.
  23. It not only provides range, it also provides guidance to all the weapons that use that system.
  24. Personally I think that it's too soon to talk about this. But take in mind that lots of things are being improved, but also new features are being implemented. So talk about the performance of the final product (the one you'll probably buy in a future) it's not being objective. Subjective opinion: Now I think it's the most hardly worked addon I've never seen in an, (ehem...sorry...) videogame (including simulators). When you get the final product, you'll appreciate it if you love simulators.
