  1. thanks AirTito, I hope we all can create interesting missions for BD. Weta43, thanks for posting the shots. Imagine deep-penetration strikes by a pod of Black Sharks. I wonder how that would play out in a coop with human opfor? Hey, does anyone remember the mission builder in Digital Intergration's Tornado? That was a sweet one. Flyby out
  2. So will BS have farps? Is that the right term for forward areas? can there be long range strike missions? Or is everything short stuff? I guess online play will be short range hops to target areas, huh? In IL2 I once created a long range carrier strike coop mission for the Pacific. It didn't go well. Some guys quit after 20 minutes of flying towards the enemey fleet. Some guys ran out of fuel. The stars came out, and finally I had to close the coop due to complaints about the lenth of it. Still it gave the feeling of what real combat pilots went through on long flights over water. But I never made such a long mission again. Flyby out
  3. No one wants sloppy workmanship. Not airline passengers, surgery patients, race car drivers, or flight sim enthusiasts. As anxous as I am for the release of Black Shark, I would not want it to be a piece of crap, nor do I think it will be. Most software requires some patching, and I don't expect BS to be any different (I'll be nicely surprised if it never needs patching). But I'd like for BS to be mostly whole with as few bugs as humanly possible. Still some bugs are to be expected. That seems to be the nature of the beasts. Patience, dear friends. And let us hope Black Shark will set new standards of gunship simulations beyond the legendary Lowgbow2, and not be released one day before it's ready. Flyby out
  4. hey guys, I saw ground troops in a BS video by someone and I was wondering what effect having ground troops in BS will have on the cpu. If troops are implemented, it seems to me that the cpu suffer and the framerates will drop to single digits. Of course I'm just looking for a good reason to upgrade my old 2.8-cpu system. But I really would like to know what the hit on a pc would be, if troops are implement. Any volunteers? thanks, Flyby out
  5. impresive! what's your next effort gonna be? ;) Flyby out
  6. rgrt D-S, I did some searches looking for that very information but came up with a blank about that specific info. I did find several references to the Iran-Iraq air war. Seems to be a few books out on the subject.
  7. actually? I wonder how that helo combat went? I wonder how manpads will be implemented in BS. If a BS flight was trying to provide combat air support flying against Western ground forces would it really come into contact with Apaches, and Cobras? I suppose it could, especially if Western forces had established local air superiority, then called their gunships in. But I'd have to figure the BS flight would have required local air superiority too before going in. Might get a little messy if the air battle was in a state of flux. Yeah! Suppose neither side had air superiority, but the gunships on both sides had to go in to provide support for their ground forces? Man, that's going to choke the old 2.8 cpu. But nothing like a desperate situation! Black Sharks ride to the rescue!! Maybe someday someone will create such a mission then report on frame rates when things get really busy on the ground and in the air. I'd better sweet-talk the wife so I can upgrade my system!:D I'd better take a break and breathe slowly:pilotfly: Flyby out
  8. get some sleep! no problem, P. Get some sleep and come back fresh and strong. ;) now how about a new answer?:megalol: Flyby out
  9. hey Pilotasso, I don't understand your answer to The_Gozr's question. What ac will be opposing the BS? Certainly not other Russian helos? Or maybe yes, Russian helos? Anyway, I'd think that air to air fights would not be the BS's main worry, but rather ground anti-air assests. I would not think to risk a combat helo where I did not have local air superiority, or at least friendly air about to keep the bogeys away while the BS went about it's business of cleaning out enemy ground units. What do you think, P? Flyby out
  10. go to download.com and search for WinRar. it's a tool used to unzip all kinds of files. hope that helps. Flyby out
  11. A year ago I found the Thrustmaster Elite rudder pedals on Ebay. Took a chance, got the winning bid, and wound up with a very fine set of pedals to add to my Cougar hotas. To me it made flying IL2 a bit more immersive, so I guess I recommend rudder pedals if only to get your head more into the game. Most guys who use them will tell you itr makes you a better flier too. I'm not a good virtual pilot by any means, pedals help me be better than I was. I think having them will help me be one with the Black Shark. But don't quote me on that! ;) Flyby out PS yes, I'm used to changing out pots, and replacing switches. wish I could afford to mod my HOTAS. But I'm a Cougar fan all the way.
  12. Hey Groove, I always thought Gunship! at least had decent masking for rotorheads to ply their trade, maybe better than LB2. Do you find BS to be equal to the task when it comes to masking? I like to ask that question for reinforcement (not to stir anything up). Flyby out
  13. re: well, that's one anwer, and maybe a good one. OK. forget I mentioned it.
  14. thanks GGT, and AirTito for your inciteful replies. much appreciated here. Now to stretch this weenie just a bit more, which of you ED beta testers are willing to hold online BS flight instruction classes? :D it's just a thought, but I can easily see how such classes might get a decent turn out. heck, I might even sign up too! ;) don't all ED testers hurry to be the first one. far better to divide this type of instruction up, I guess. Someone holds procedural classes, someone else holds weapons-employment classes, etc. While I've got my hand out, how about a few new screenies? Nothing that hasn't been shown before, but maybe a variation on a theme? I'll think of more stuff to ask for later. Flyby out
  15. Calling GGTHaros!!!! Are you saying the BS does not have any sort of digital flight compensation stuff to help the pilot? Am I to believe that a BS pilot will be busier than a one-armed paper hanger just to stay aloft? Hey just kidding. Some of us have flown other helo sims, and I assume you have too. So I ask you; is there (was there) ever a helo sim that you know of that had flight characteristics that rival (your impression of) the BS flight model for seeming accuracy? Of course I'm just hunting for any little tidbit of information. Hehe... you know me. :) Flyby out
  16. Oh where is BS? The whole world wants to know. well, actually patience is a virtue. Just imagine the learing curve we'll bve exposed to. Tears of grief from waiting will turn to tears of frustration at trying to get proficient operating the BS in a combat situation. maybe not. might be a piece of cake! Flyby out
  17. OK, ok. You guys made yer points. when it rains, it pours. I guess fratricide would be a definite possibility with so many choppers in the air, which means I won't be seeing you guys in large formations, eh? pity (j/k) Flyby
  18. hmmmm..... it could happen! of course I have no idea how the sim will play out online, but isn't it possible that someone might come up with a coop with 20 slots? as for that number being unrealistic, well OK. the idea of "clouds" of BS choppers descending on a convoy is a bit much. I was having a bit of fun with that idea. no need to rain on my litte parade, Tito. ;) Flyby
  19. Just think. Clouds of Ka-50s descending on big fat convoys! Coming to a pc near you sometime soon(er rather than later, I hope) :D Flyby out
  20. Thanks for the news, Matt. Much appreciated. Imagine creating desperate or no-win situations with the new ME. :D Flyby
  21. DS, I'm not surprised at anything much anymore. Oh, I didn't think you sounded like a chick at all (wel, maybe a little). ;) Let's let bygones be bygones, and get back to the good stuff. Flyby out
  22. OK guys, I'm sorry if I've offended anyone. This aspect of the discussion is not worth the risk of bad blood among fans of combat flight sims, or real military combat aircraft. Remember, "yada-yada-yada, all others bring data". Otherwise strong opinions bring strong opposition, which is where we are now. Hell, I ain't trying to win nothing here. You'd think I've learned to more carefully pick the battles I fight. No need to fight them all. Flyby out
  23. OK, OK I yield. ;) I missed the hard deck_kill thing in that episode. Hey can a Hornet really out-turn a MiG-29? Can a Falcon? I wonder if either case has ever been established. Any Lockon veterans here care to report their virtual dogfighting experiences flying the Fulcrum against these NATO fighters? Is it a matter of cornering speeds?. Flyby out
