I have another PC that is mostly empty, it is my scratch-built PC based on the i7-920 CPU. I've been thinking about playing with Linux with it. A public library IT guy is one of my PC gurus that I am friendly with and he has helped me a lot, though using Windows based stuff. His home PCs, 4 of them, are all Linux based and not Windows. His hobby is creating graphics based creations. He dates back with Linux before the likes of Ubuntu, and such. Will DCS World run well on a Linux based system? Does anybody here run Linux with DCS? I have only played a little bit with Ubuntu. I definitely do not know much about Linux, but my local library has old and new books about it that just sit on the shelf unused and my buddy is a wealth of knowledge from the old days to present. I was hoping some serious LINUX gurus would come on and comment about it.

In FC2, there are training missions for the Mig-29 and Mig-29S and the FC2 book has some stuff specific in the Flight Manual to its cockpit layout. The Su-27, Su-33 and Mig-29 use the same HUD and HDD operational modes and weapons delivery procedures are the same for the 27, 33, 29A and 29S. My FC2 book is dated 2010. In the VNAO Stallturn server the F-18 uses the Mig-29 cockpit, so I had to learn it. If I can learn it, anybody can...

He said the inner or outer bracket key next to the Comms shotcut key. But he also said his keyboard was not a USA keyboard. So, is this the " ] " next to the " \ " ? This does not work for me. That is the one thing I like about the 104th server, is everybody has no advantages F-key "cheats" as being an equal playing field. Some planes, it is a guess if the airbrake is out or not since some planes have no cockpit idiot light, other than listening for disturbed air turbulence or watching the airspeed indicator. Maybe it is a custom workaround.

I was in the Black Shark in DCS World using the 104th Phoenix server last night. I was flying a sortie with two, more experienced guys than me and using TS3. I went to use the F10 map, but it was blank on my end. It did not even show my position other than a moving space on the map in close up view. One of the guys hit another key to bring up the enemy overlay as to where the enemy is. I asked, but his accent threw me, as to which keyboard key to touch to bring up this map accessory. Plus his keyboard is not my USA type layout. Would someone share with me what key this is on a USA qwerty keyboard? Is there a key command list associated with DCS World? This would be a GUI key command list, correct?

In the F-15 in FC2, in VNAO, using the Stallturn server, using the different ILS waypoints, I select one, then ask ATC for a bearing to see what airfield the waypoint selected is. The ATC guy will tell me what airfield the ILS waypoint is by its identifying name. If I am searching for a specific airfield that will do repair\refueling\rearming, I just sift through the waypoints one by one repeating the process. The two HUD crosshairs will move around as to which waypoint I select. Once ATC identifies the field I want, he will give me a bearing to follow to the Initial turning point to line up with the runway a few miles out. Then, I just line up the HUD cross-hairs and the field's ILS pops up on my HUD and HSI and it will take me directly to the designated runway. The Russian aircraft are much simpler navigating to various waypoints and also, separately to the various ILS approaches. I am not going to setup FC3 while it is still in beta. Hope this is the same in FC3 and hope this helps someone.

A week or two back I loaded up TacView version 1.2 . Like you do, I have to log out, review the track, and see what is going on. I was flying Ka-50 into an area that had mostly already killed gv targets, but I kept getting nailed (2 simultaneous outings). So I used the TacView. I saw about where the manpad was located. Next time out I was not so eager approaching him and found a lone soldier with his Stinger launcher and nailed him with the standard laser-ranging missile the Ka-50 carries. I read old posts to see how the topic evolves.

I have used a LAN setup in DRAGON's Multiplayer missions just for myself, but not using DCS World. Think I used BS2. It worked great. I don't know what the rules are concerning a LAN server. The typical server setup, I think you will need an additional license for the server. Running the LAN just for myself, I don't think I need an additional license.

Well, texting info without voice tone in the same country is difficult at best. I'm cool. Your buddy must have frequented the flight sim Aces High, is where I found the Avatar. My concern was, am I wrong? Do I need the World Upgrade? I think I am good the way I am. Cheers.

In order for me to be able to cursor click the Connect button in Multiplayer, to Login to DCS.com , I need to bring up my Windows 7 Task Manager (LCtrl+LAlt+Delete), then "Start Task Manager" , then the Connect button will depress and I "Connect to Master". This is also the same process for me connecting into a Single Player pre-configured mission that comes with DCS World. I do not remember buying the Upgrade module for DCS World for Black Shark 2. My BS2 1.1.1.1 updated to BS2 1.2.2 automatically. I have 4 purchases within my cart vault, the BS2 World Upgrade module is not listed. My serial number for DCS: Black Shark 2 Upgrade 1.1.1.1 (English download version) purchased March 14, 2012, is the same serial number I used to enter DCS World, yesterday. And I lost one of my Activations doing so. I was wondering if me not buying the DCS World Upgrade Module makes a difference with this log-in issue?

It is a large learning curve. This is the hardest sim aircraft I have ever learned, and I am sill learning it 10 months later. But I am self-taught. Some of the guys that I respect highly as to flying the sim jet aircraft will not mess with the helicopter because it so difficult to learn. I landed my 1st successful FARP last night in DCS World after many previous attempts. I landed it, refueled, rearmed and took off again. What I did different was give myself a plus 40 Curvature slider in my X and Y cyclic roll/pitch controls in Axis Tune in Axis Commands in the Options\Controls setup. Though, I always play in full Ka-50 Sim mode. I like books to learn from than the likes of Kindle and similar. There is a book that can be purchased, the Flight Manual for Black Shark 1, copyright is 2009. It is dated and some of the info has been updated to the online manual. A lot of it is in the Russian language as to the cockpit controls lettering. I found mine to Amazon.com . I am thinking about buying an unbreakable (or relatively so), electric, RC training helicopter and tether it to the ground. I don't think an RC model helicopter can be much more difficult than this sim.

Hi Crunch, I saw no way to setup the mouse to get the Shkval cursor to function in World in Options\Controls\Axis Commands for the CH Products Pro Throttle. I never said BS1 is part of World. I'm good. I just flew the Ka-50 for an hour to the 104th's World server. I posted to help others. I won't do that again, excuuuuuuse me. Sorry I tried to help. It is easy enough for the storekeeper to go take alook what I purchased.

Sure it is, I have the $20 Upgrade version for BS2. That is all I am using to get BS2 into World. Worked for me. A lot of people talk as if they know what they are talking about and do not. Thanks! I did not update, yet, as a previous attempt at updating World prevented me from adding the Warthog and Mustang. So I uninstalled and started over. I now have installed DCS World, Warthog which is my DCS original 1.1.1.1, and the P-51D which I bought as a pre-purchase beta, all installed and working. I left that installation not updated as a virgin backup. But trying to add my DCS Black Shark 2 which updated to 1.2.2 I am still having issues installing it without success, so far. BS2 Upgrade version 1.2.2, when I go to install it using the downloaded .exe file (KA-50_bs1update_en_1.2.2.7122_23.exe) in my installation for World, I get an immediate pop-up message in Setup that states, "DCS Black Shark 1 must be installed and activated" My current DCS World version is 1.2.2.7122 . Second time around I did not install the 1.2.2.7204 Update as of last night. DCS World, the A-10C and P-51D modules loaded and run fine. My online "invoice" Order History states I have the Black Shark Upgrade 1.2.2 currently listed. I purchased this for BS2 and updated it to version 1.1.1.1 ============================================================================== I never installed the betas for DCS World Black Shark. If I purchase the BS2 for DCS World stand-alone installation, is this also going to be a ridiculous ordeal?

(re: Message #4) I had the same problem with the DCS World A-10C 1.2.2 Update. I did as you and uninstalled World, then reinstalled it only to version 1.2.2.7122 That worked for Warthog and Mustang.
