Mission Building: Trigger Cockpit Device ID's
EvilBivol-1 replied to blaster454's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Nice work. Once we have some current development tasks completed, we plan on providing a cockpit triggers manual to the community. -
And now I'm going eat my words. It's FUNC and SEL rocker key on the UFC. :)
-
We'll let it slip this time.
-
To cycle the waypoints after hitting OSB-9, hit FUNC, then DATA up/down on the UFC. This process is actually practiced in the DSMS training mission.
-
The setting you're looking for is not the flare amount, but the cycle amount, which is the last digit on the right side of the CMSC display.
-
The training mission was updated with the new ILS freq.
-
Most people go with visual approaches after contacting ATC and getting permission to land, but if you want to learn a proper ILS approach as implemented in the sim, try the landing training mission.

Problem with the Navigation Training Mission
EvilBivol-1 replied to BlackRazor's topic in Mission and Campaigns
You are instructed to turn north toward WP3, afterwhich the mission continues when you level out. Did you make the turn? -
Reward? You just gave us more work. If I agreed, would that make the F-15E more or less likely as the next DCS module on the community's guess list? :)
-
Some of the frequencies were updated in the release version to match real data. As Nate pointed out, the Divert page of the CDU is useful for that sort of thing in-flight.
-
I think you just found a bug. Just tested and it looks like the marker beacons are not being received, even though they had been working previously. Will add to buglist. ILS is still functional, though.
-
ILS is functional. Just tune to the correct freq, select ILS mode on the NMSP and make sure you are within the ILS signal range (final approach fix will be about 2K ft. altitude a few nm from the runway). Again though, there is no ILS indication on the HUD. The steering bars (and the glideslope deviation indicator) on the ADI are your main indicators for the glidepath.
-
There is no ILS indication on the HUD. Only on the ADI.

Yes, there are a few occasions in the missions where the triggers depend on button presses and the system can't catch these if they are pressed/released too quickly. This isn't a bug, but a technological limitation of the system for the moment. However, we've eliminated as many of steps that depend on button presses as possible and will continue to do that as we move forward. Thanks for the report.

One other thing I should point out in case you didn't realize it is that you can accelerate time by pressing LCTRL + Z. Return to normal time is LSHIFT + Z. This way you can move through the missions quite quickly if you're having to refly them.
-
I checked the Mav mission just to be sure and there is nothing that should be preventing you from proceeding after hitting the first target. The remaining instructions are based only on time. Once again, I think it would be easier to help you if you could submit a track of your flight.

Just purchased this morning...impressed (yet, overwhelmed)

As already mentioned, it may be helpful to pause the sim when you need to catch up with instructions. Additionally, you may want to try the Active Pause function, which allows you to manipulate the avionics. The default command for active pause is LWIN+LSHIFT+PAUSE (sorry, another piccolo command :)). -
Again, somewhat guessing as to the part of the mission you're having trouble with, but I suspect you may need to turn more toward the targets to get a more staight-on angle on it before the TGP can enter POINT tracking mode. I believe the instructor points this out in the lesson. Also, as before, we have to differentiate which command is required - short LCTRL+UP to enter AREA/POINT tracking mode or long LCTRL+UP to designate a SPI. I believe you are at the former step, but not sure.
-
The AUTO LS function has been set to OFF in the release (apparently most pilots prefer to lase manually). This means you have to lase the target manually by using the HOTAS pinky button or, as pointed out already, change the AUTO LS function to ON and set a timer for the LS TIME function for how long before impact you want the laser to fire automatically. And, as also pointed out, you may benefit from the PGM training mission.
-
There is not a video collection of the official training missions. They do tend to cover a lot of information and it's generally advisable that you play them with a notebook and flight manual available to help you digest the information. Keep in mind that you can always pause the mission to catch up with the text or set the mission to active pause using the LSHIFT+LWIN+PAUSE keys to give you a chance to look through the avionics indications described by the instructor. However, there are a number of unofficial and popular training video series you can find on the forum.

Thanks for the nice feedback. As indicated in some of the training missions, to best hear the insturctor over the background noise, you should lower your WORLD and IN-COCKPIT sound sliders. Generally anything below 70% should be enough. This will maintain the instructor's volume while lowering most other sounds in the cockpit. The various warning tones are controlled by the HELMET slider, but lowering this will also lower the instructor, so it's best to leave this at 100%.
-
Yes, many of the HOTAS commands have different functions depending on whether they are pressed-released (short command) or held down for a few moments (long command). In the training missions, the instructor always specifies when you need to input a long command. Otherwise the command is short. However, in this particular case, because it was seen as a possible moment of confusion, he specifically asks for a short command. :)
-
It would be easier to help if you could submit a track of your flight. Otherwise it's hard to know exactly what point in the mission you're having problems with. To save a track, open the mission through the mission editor and hit Save Track from the debriefing screen after exiting the mission. From the sound of it, you are getting stuck at the point when the instructor asks you to slew the pod around. He then asks you engage POINT tracking mode. This is done with a short press of the LCTRL+UP command. However it seems like you are pressing the long LCTRL+UP command, which designates the TGP point as a SPI and this is not the expected command at that time.
-
Did you perhaps remap the function of the Space bar key? What the mission is really looking for is the gun trigger command, which is Space by default.

No, paypal is not a supported method of payment. Sorry for the inconvenience.
