Yeah I got it downloaded but that doesn't help. It's searching endlessly for "running TrackIR games". Anyway - how does that FreeTrack work ? Cause FreeTrackNoIR seems to use the same protocol (freetrack), right ? So how did you configure DCS to be able to recognize input from freetrack ? Cause my freetracknoir is still running in the background but DCS just doesn't pickup the input. The camera doesn't move. I must be missing something. edit : When you were using freetracknoir did you use freetrack protocol or faketrackir protocol ?

Nope. And im trying this with BS2 (but I shouldn't matter these days since the engine is the same since the last patch). But I don't think thats the problem since the ini file only contains settings for the FreeTrack software (curves, shortcuts, etc). I copied the HeadTracker.dll into my bin folder. Now I see the "Headtracker" column in my controls options.

Hey, I'm really interrested in trying FreeTrackNoIR but I'm not sure how to make it work. I downloaded FaceTrackNoIR version 1.6 but I can't make it work in DCS BS2. The FaceTrackNoIR seems to run fine, I got 25-30 FPS and it seems to track the movements of my head really nicely but when I run DCS it doesn't do anything. I also downloaded the Eagle Dynamics API interface DLL's (64bit) and used the DCS preset that is included there (freetrack game profile). When I run Gui I see the "headtracker" column there in control options but in game it doesn't move the camera at all. It's like the DCS doesn't really get any input from the FreeTrack software. In the readme.txt there is just : Start FaceTrackNoIR; Load the 'DCS A-10C.ini' file (this will happen automatically next time); Press 'START': you will see your face in the video-widget. If your face 'was found' a yellow outline appears; Minimize FaceTrackNoIR; Start the game and have fun! And it doesn't work. Am I missing something ? Any ideas ?

I don't understand what all the fuss is about. They will release P-51D while they are working on F/A-18C (:-)) ? Great! Another flying jewel to my DCS collection. I will buy it for sure! I can't wait to learn to fly it and take it for a spin. TBH I would enjoy any aircraft at DCS level of realism.

First in "DCS A-10C\Config\View\View.lua" you need to set : DisableSnapViewsSaving = false UseDefaultSnapViews = false and then every time you set a new snap view press "Save Cockpit Angles" key. Also check that you can write into the game folder. If you have the game installed in Program Files you will have to run it as administrator.

You can switch everything (panels, labels, even wingman and betty voices) to english in Black Shark GUI options menu. I use it too cause I don't speak russian. Plus the new campaign in BS2 is recorded in english as well, which is good. And the BS is a great fun to fly!

Also if you got crappy joystick like I do it's a good thing to tweak your axis a bit. Add a small deadzone to the center, little curvature so its more precise near the center and saturation to get smoother control. It helped me a lot. And then just practise. Flying in sim mode requires really good (precise) control. About the trim. I trim with the "trimmer center mode" on. I stabilize the heli, press the trim button, hold it until im satisfied with the direction of flight (few seconds), relese the trim button and then gently move the stick to the center. Don't do any quick movements, that usualy ends bad if you don't know what you are doing :-)

Oh, okay. Thanks.

Oh right! When I added GPU on Ural it works now. You see I usualy fly my own missions (love the mission editor) but I wasn't aware that you need to add your own ground crew even at airports. The weird thing is that I also got A10C and it works there without having to add there a mobile GPU. Both are 1.1.1.1 version. And im pretty sure it worked before in BS as well.
-
Right, that makes sense. Anyway, what about the ground power problem ? I added a trk file so you can see what am I doing.
-
Hey, I noticed that in BS2 I'm not able to use ground power when starting from ramp. When I start the mission I used to press "\" and tell the ground crew to turn on the power as the first thing I did (door is still open at this point and engines nor apu are running). But I got no response from them. I even tried to turn on batteries and turn on intercom switch and then turn the radio selector knob to Grnd crew posision (but I shouldn't need to do that since the engines are not running so they should be able to hear me fine without the intercom, right?) but no luck. I know I can start the engines and everything on batteries just fine but I was just wondering why this isnt working anymore. edit : I forgot to mention that I tried this even with easy comm and it didnt work either. edit2 : I got the newest (1.1.1.1) version One more unrelated question : I noticed that before takeoff all other choppers always taxi to runway first. Is this how it's done in RL ? I always assumed that since helis can take off vertically they just take right off from their place. edit3 : I added a trk file groundpower.trk

I know that but I imagine that adding the ability to change control settings in game wouldnt be such a big deal. Or at least view current controls.

Yeah, being able to access all options would be neat too but I can understand that some of those would require simulator restart so it's not really useful to have all the options there available in game anyway. On the other hand I'd like to access the control options quite often. This game has milion shortcuts and I don't remember them all or I sometimes discover that I need to remap some critical shortcut in the middle of the mission - it happens to me quite often when I come back to this sim after a while of not playing. In these cases I need to quit and start over. I just thought it would be a nice thing to be able to access the controls window from within the game.
-
Is it possible to make the input configuration menu accesible while the simulator is runing ? Like create a new "Controls" button in the little window that shows up when you press the ESC key so we can change key and joystick binding while in the game. It's very annoying that if you want to make any kind of change or just review what keybinding you already have (in case you forget the key you need) you have to quit the mission. It would find it very useful.

Just download the installer from digitalcombatsimulator.com ... it will recognize that you have the steam version (you need to have it installed) and thats it ... it worked for me fine ... you can then delete the steam instalation of BS1
-
Ok, great, thanks for quick reply.

Hey, today I finally bought the BS2 upgrade version. I own the BS1 on Steam and have it installed on my PC. Everything works nice, no problem. I just wanted to ask if I can now delete the steam files to free the hdd space or do I have to keep the BS1 steam version installed in order to play BS2 (which I installed in a separate folder). Thanks.

I've seen that documentary as well ... I think it was one of the Iraq episodes from the Shootout! series. Not sure which one, but you can find them all on youtube. "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shootout!"

Initial impressions on Black shark 2 please

Are the voices in the new BS2 campaign recorded in english or russian ? -
its easy to setup : first you need to open the file DCS A-10C\Config\View\View.lua with notepad or something and set : DisableSnapViewsSaving = false UseDefaultSnapViews = false then in game in keyboard configuration find "Save Cockpit Angles" and "Snapview 1-10" and bind them to some easily reachable keys. then i recommend to cold start in parking area and look around, press the snapview 1 button, position your camera where you want that view to be and press the save key. Repeat this with all the remaining snap views. It will always save the current camera angle as the last snap view used. Dont forget you can even move the camera position within the cockpit as well as look around and zoom. This way you can setup your snapviews, save them and anytime instantly recall them by pressing the snap view button 1-10. Easy and useful.

setup some custom snapviews and keybinds, thats the best you can do without trackir. I use this myself.

Hey, I was watching this video : and I noticed the small window in bottom left corner of the screen that shows the stick, rudder and throttle axis info. What is that ? How can I turn that on ? I'd like to have it as well.

Is is possible to make certain unit groups spawn randomly in a selected area ? Like if I created a trigger zone with radius 10 km for example (or perhaps marked the spawn area by some other method) and then set 10 unit groups to spawn randomly in this area ? You see I love creating my own missions but when I do I always know exactly where the enemy units are so I'd like to introduce some random elements into my missions. edit : oh I think I found my answer in other forum threat - using random condition for group activate trigger. Its still not quite random (you have to place all the "random" units there) but it's better than nothing I guess. edit2 : wouldn't it be possible to randomize the spawn itself using lua script ? For example using red bullseye as a start point and then randomizing unit positions around this object in selected radius. That must be possible if there is some command to set units position (setPosition(UNIT, X, Y)?). If there is such command available then it would be a matter of a simple script to get red bullseye pos +- random number of meters ( x > 0 < radius ) to set each units position at mission start. Is there a documentation of all the available scripting commands somewhere ? Like Arma2 for example has - the scripting documentation is very well done for Arma, well for every BiS product since OFP. Is there stuff like this available for DCS as well ? I tried searching for it but didn't find anything.
