Yeah, I think you're right. As for the videocard - I have chosen Gigabyte GV-N760OC-2GD - that should do nicely.

Hi, I'm currently thinking of buying new PC but I haven't yet decided which CPU to buy - I'm thinking about : Intel Core i5-3570K http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-3570K+%40+3.40GHz or Intel Core i7-3770K http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-3770K+%40+3.50GHz The main question of course is "Is the i7 bang worth the extra buck?". My main concern is performance in DCS, for all other things I do the i5 would quite sufficient. What do you guys think ? PS: I'm going to overclock to get some extra performance from the CPU I choose in the end - both should be overclockable nicely. edit: I'm thinking that the i5 might be enough since DCS right now cannot utilize multiple cores or hyperthreading. But this thing called EDGE is the back of my mind - maybe when EDGE finally comes out the extra cores and threads of the i7 would come handy.

You don't have to buy another A10C copy when you run out of activations. You always get the last activation point back after a month. This means that if you're down to 0 you get 1 back (as for most people this is ok 'cause they don't reinstall system every week or so). But if you reinstall your OS more often that is a problem. Maybe you should consider creating a dual boot with one stable system for games and other for your work. edit: Oh, right. Get 2 hard drives then and change boot order in bios as needed ? I don't think there's anything else you can do since this is a very specific problem.

Not exactly the case here but besides kickstarter there's also this gambitious.com crowdfunding site that I find even better than kickstarter - by backing a project you are becoming an investor and you will get a piece of the profit when it's done. Anyway, about KI - I threw in my few $$ just to give the project a chance to get off the ground. I agree that it's a bit ambitious. But I guess they are the first regular company that's becoming 3rd party dev and I guess that means that the cost is higher (but they can focus on it and so deliver the product faster). I think all the other teams are just enthusiasts with day jobs that do this as a side job / hobby (and I would support them as well if they did a kickstarter - Beczl's got my money already :-)). Plus Wags gave this a thumbs up.

Information from 3rd party forums is a mess.

Backed! Good luck with the project!

That's true. That's one thing that bothers me about SU25 (I don't own FC yet but when the stand alone modules come out I will buy those) - that you have to remember bazillion shortcuts and you cannot even view the current assignent while in game (seriously that would be cool if there was a button in the ESC menu that would show a briefing like window with current keymap - that would be enough - you dont have to be able to change it or anything, just a plain text list of keys). You have to either quit and look in the controls or alt tab and google it (if you use default key mapping which I don't). On the other hand in DCS module even if I don't play a certain module for some time I can still get in the cockpit and do pretty much everything right away because even if I don't remember the key I can still click the switch and it's fine (I can look up the exact key later). In DCS I actually click almost everything, I got only hotas mapped.

No button AFAIK but the RCTRL+RALT+TAB shortcut works just fine - I use it all the time in huey :-D Works in multiplayer as well but it must be enabled in the mission options in mission editor. Then you save the mission and it works.
-
ok here you go (see attachment - script templates + example mission in the zip) : how to use: script_fixed.zip
-
look at the test mission I attached here in the mission designer forum : http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1787568&postcount=5 in the mission there is a radio item in the f10 comms that spawns the soldiers around the huey and they run to their waypoint defined by the trigger zone. this is an early version of the script and this is all it can do. Now I have a much more advanced version that I can also share if you're interrested.

Just download newest world + modules from torrent : http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/dcs_world/ The speed should be much better. Autopatcher is fine for small updates but if you have to download 2 gigs of patch data it's better to download the whole thing from torrent - that way you should have it home in about 30 minutes.
-
^^ this means that you pre-purchase the full module when it's released and as a bonus you get access to the beta version as well ...

Actually it is possible. I was just recently been experimenting with the new addgroup function and it works quite well. I used it for example in troop insertion mission with huey where after landing at the lz the patrol team spawns nicely around my chopper and runs into neerby forest. So yes, with a bit of scripting you can do that nowdays, which is great. The trick is that you generate the data structure of the unit class dynamically at spawn so you can put there any spawn point and as many waypoints as you like.I use this kind of script to pretty much generate a whole random battlefield for me at mission start.

The June 21st DCS News Update Discussion Thread

wow, now that's a big gift to the community indeed! I'd imagine that developping those costs a pretty penny and they are giving it away for free - hope all the nagging will now stop cause this gift will cost them a lot since fc3 is their best selling product (I think). As for me, I will buy those the day they come out - the eagle looks fun, but im not interrested in buying old lock on cd .... weeee :pilotfly: -
Oh cool, thanks for tip!

Hehe, yeah, the ground unit physics needs a bit of work. I tried the other day to run over some poor infantry guys with my abrams and it didn't go as planned either :megalol:

Hey, I just bought CA so I'm not quite sure how this works. So I created a mission where I selected that pilots can control units. I can issue orders from map and so on but if I jump into a vehicle for some direct control (like when I'm at ground rearming the a10) with the JTAC View button on the top bar then I cannot get back into my aircraft (the button isn't there when I select my plane). It gets taken over by AI pilot and I have to respawn it. Am I missing something please or is that correct that if I take direct control of a vehicle I loose control of my plane ?

Do These Guys want my money? Billing Error!!
lanmancz replied to Dudester22's topic in Forum and Site Issues
I think you should leave the state empty if you're not in US. I just bought CA and the payment worked just fine. -
Wow, I don't understand all the negativity in this thread. Instead of being glad that another dev is joining our DCS family so we will have more toys (and hopefully also terrain) to choose from I see a lot of people just hating on this for no good reason - just a lot of speculations. And even Wags said that these guys know what they are doing (and his word has some weight around here). I'd say just wait for the product - if you like it - buy it. If you don't ... then don't ... simple as that. From me - good luck to KI!

Nah, that's not it. Unless the antivirus is running some deep scan it cannot affect performance so much. I have it running in the background on my crap pc all the time and I have no such issue. As I said - at least for me the biggest fps impact (apart from cbu) is from the number of units in the mission.
-
How many units is there in the mission you're playing ? I think that's important. I bet that if you open mission editor and put your aircraft in an empty map the fps will be ok. I have far inferior PC to yours but I can still play with decent fps (about 30-40). The trick is that I'm playing mainly only my own missions where I put 50 units max (I'm using spawn scripts so I can always spawn more when I want). And it runs nice. The problem is that when there are lots of units in the mission the DCS becomes very cpu intensive and since the current engine does not utilize multiple cores (well it does but the second one is just for sound afaik) it becomes a problem. Hopefully when EDGE is released this will be solved and it will have full multicore support.

Yay, it works nice : when the script is activated (radio comms in the test mission) it creates a squad of soldiers 'PatrolA' around unit 'Pilot1' (I will use this when player lands the huey at the LZ) and they start to move to a waypoint marked by trigger zone 'PatrolAWP'. Work well. Spans didn't matter after all. But one question though: depending on the spawn radius I choose some of the soldiers often get stuck (probably colliding with the heli) and don't move any more. Can I do something about that pls ? Also when I'm at it - is there a switch waypoint type command that I could use to make a unit pingpong around 2 (or more) waypoints for example ? Like add do script action at waypoint 2 to make the unit to switch back to waypoint 1 ? test.miz

I didn't fly Huey for some time now but I got back to it this week and I must say my landings got much better. I used simple training method - start from parking hot on some airport, takeoff, fly around the airport and try to land at the runway heading markers (ie. 09 & 27 on Senaki for example). The letters make a nice practise target and you can do it dozens of times until you get it (using respawn if you crash). My guess is that you guys are doing too much things and too fast without proper control of the aircraft (first train flying at certain altitude and speed until you get a good control - 40 kts, 60 kts, 80 kts). You have to split the movement into several parts. First I decelerate when I'm about 1km away. This means pulling back on the cyclic and lowering the collective so the vertical speed is about 0 (or little positive, it's ok) and speed should be dropping. I then ease of on the cyclic and add a little collective to *prevent* from speed dropping too much. I then keep this balance and continue to decelerate (and descent if im high) at about 40 knots (-500 fpm max) until I'm very close to the target. Then I let it decelerate more by pulling back on cyclic and lowering collective (and then ease off again to prevent it dropping too much). This WILL require more collective soon because I will loose the transitional lift, also left pedal will be needed when you're really slow. You HAVE TO BE ready for this, in fact I use it to my advantage sometimes - when Im too high I let it loose the lift a little to loose some height but be ready to compensate for it sooner that too late (or you're risking entering vortex ring and since you're so low it usually means crash). Keep and eye on that VSI, when it's shaking it's bad. Also I recommend decelerating slowly so you don't loose the lift suddenly but gradually. The rest is just practise I guess. For me the most important instruments during approach and lading are speedo and VSI. I don't really look at anything else. The key thing really is as someone mentioned before - anticipation - I know that I will lose transitional lift when my speed drops bellow 40 kts so during approach I won't let it drop so low. When I'm near and I need to delerate I am ready for it, watch the VSI and compensate with collective (and correct with cyclic and pedals) to keep my speed and vertical speed correct so I land (somewhere around:D) the mark. PS: My landing are still a rough so I'm no master but this is how I train and do it and it woks well. Also I recommend having 20-30 curves on cyclic and pedals and using central trimmer mode (and trim, trim, trim!). This way I can do all those small adjustments around the center that are needed but without using center trimmer mode impossible to do on my crappy stick. Also I recommend having the control indicator on (RCTRL+Enter) - helps me a lot as well.
