I think you get false reading from instruments simply because they are not set correctly. You are in fact at the 7000 feet but your pressure setting on your altimeter is wrong. Every time I do ramp start I have to set my altimeter from the default pressure to the correct position. I assume it's in the default setting when you start in flight as well. edit : yup, I just tested it and it's true. No matter what pressure I set in the editor the pressure setting in the Kollsman window is always the same (2992 - standart pressure setting) so the indicated altitude is wrong. When starting in flight, you should have all instruments set correctly (to current regional QNH - IRL pilots get QNH updates from ATC if I understand it correctly) but this is clearly in default. Or is it supposed to be like that ? Maybe I'm just talking nonsens here. I wonder what someone more experienced will say about this. I'm not sure if it really isn't a bug. But so obvious bug ? I'm sure they would have discovered it by now. I think we must be missing something. Can someone please explain this and how it's supposed to work ?

Why does the plane drag to the right on takeoff
lanmancz replied to Darren's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Right. It's not the input problem by the way. I was thinking of trimming the rudder during landing in crosswinds or once during an energency - I got pretty damaged in the mission and my plane was constantly drifting right (my right engine was gone + some other damage) so I had to apply strong left rudder input to counter that and during that time I was thinking if I can trim the rudder somehow. But I didn't have time to play with buttons in cockpit during that emergency. I focused on landing on nearest airport ... and I crashed by the way :-) But thanks, I will look more into it in the manual. -

This is interresting. How do you trim the rudder please ? I was looking in control options for some "Trim Rudder Left / Right" shortcuts the other day but I didn't find any. I didn't check the manual yet TBH 'cause I haven't been playing now for a while but this interrests me now when I see you mention it. -
Oh, does this mean my pitot tubes were frozen by icing and reading false information ? doh! You're probably right, I never turn that on :-) edit : now when I think about it it makes sense. It was one of my first winter missions with temperatures around zero. I used to be flying in nice spring weather so far. Thanks for help.

Hey, I just wanted to ask for explanation for this weird thing that happened to me several times now. When I create my own map (I usualy fly my own maps) with some dynamic weather (3 systems, strong winds) I sometimes find myself in a situation when my IAS goes rapidly up to 400+ kts. Even when I throttle back to idle my IAS still rises but after a while the plane starts stalling but my speed indicator shows 400+. Any idea what that is ?

Inclement weather beating the crap out of my comp
lanmancz replied to ShuRugal's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I also notice big fps drop if I run a map with cloudy weather. -
It is 30 "hardware" FPS but increased by freetrack to 120. I have no lag at all. Are you sure those 125 on ps3 cam isnt virtual as well ? anyway, as I said, no lag, no problem

Is it possible to have shadows set on low but still have cockpit shadows on ? I noticed that cockpit shadows don't show unless the shadow setting is on med/hi.

You have to use smoothing and EWMA filter. My settings that work good enough for me are folowing (see pictures in attachement). I use these at my laptop, at my home computer I use FreeTrack. I can really recomment to you to try FreeTrack. Look here : http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1383699&postcount=28 With 15€ worth of stuff you can make yourself FreeTrack gear that works MUCH better than FaceTrackNoIR.

Hey, I recently started using FreeTrack and I'm having this weird delay problem. When I start FreeTrack its quick and responsive (30 FPS @ 640x480 multiplied x4 to 120 FPS) but after a minute or so the delay slowly builds up to about 1 second. I have auto-exposure off, the problem is not with the webcam's FPS (the fps indicator is still at 30 x4 = 120) but the stream itself seems to lag behind my actual head movement (it's very visible when i make a quick head movement). I can see the video feed being delayed. But when I start the stream in my webcam application its fine, no delay at all (I tried running it for few minutes and no delay what so ever). Also, in FreeTrack when I stop and then start the stream again its fine for about another minute. I tried running it as administrator and setting high priority to freetrack.exe process but it didn't help, the delay is still there. EDIT : Sorry, I think I got it. After experimenting with all settings I discovered that when I manually set the actual webcam FPS to 60 (even that it has only 30) and multiplier to 2x it helps a lot.

I found this vid here : that guy is using cheap a4tech webcam with 6 ir diodes and it seems it works nice. I'll give it a try. edit : WOW ! FreeTrack works really great ! If only I knew sooner that I can build my own headtracking device using nothing more than a cheap webcam, an old baseball cap and 3 pieces of reflective tape. All together worth no more than 15 euros! Also I can really recommend the a4tech pk-333e webcam - it has build in 6 IR diodes, no IR filter (at least I think it doesn't have one cause it's a nightvision cam and I didn't need to remove it to make it see the reflective strips), it works really good right out of the box - 120 fps @ 640x480, no problem.
-
Yeah, but I don't have a solder. I'd have to buy that too just to put the thing together. That's why I'm interrested in finding out how those strips work. Cause the reflective tape costs like 2 euros. I imagine something like this. It looks easy to make : http://www.free-track.net/images/point_model_gallery/nilux_08.jpg?PHPSESSID=7613d885ff1d0c088551fbfef612f11c But the question is if this requires additional IR light to make it work.
-
And are you using reflective strips or IR diodes ? I think that diodes are better but if these strips work fine that it's good enough for me. Plus putting 3 strips on my cap sounds a lot easier to make. But I'm not sure if those 4 IR leds on the webcam will be enough. But big IR lamps are almost as expensive as track IR. What do you think ? Will it work ?
-
While this thread is still alive I'd like to ask what webcam would you recommend to buy for this. I have this Genius eFace 1325R webcam (http://www.geniusnet.com/wSite/ct?xItem=16760&ctNode=161) but the trouble with this one (and the webcam on my laptop as well) is that unless there is a bright light shining directly at me the fps drops rapidly to 5-8 fps. Is it worth buying more expensive webcam (are they better in low light?) or is it the same with all webcams? What webcams do you use? edit : now when I think of it - this webcam I have has these 4 infra diodes that can be used with FreeTrack with reflex strips on my cap, right ? It should be a bit more reliable than FaceTrack I guess. I mean FaceTrack works nice, what a great piece of free software, but sometimes it loses my face and the view gets stuck looking at the cockpit floor. Plus there is the problem with the light, I like to play in the dark :-) So my another question is - will this webcam work with FreeTrack ?

I think this works only in BS2 / A10C ... I think there is a different method to make it work in BS1. Check here : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=56837

Oh you're right. I didn't realize I had to make a folder called "headtracker" in the bin folder. I just put the DLL in there and it showed up in the control options so I thought that was it. Now when I created the "headtracker" folder with the DLL in there it really works. I knew I was stuck on something stupid like this. Thanks for the tip.

Just go here http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/information_links/download.htm and download Eagle Dynamics API interface DLL and FaceTrackNoIR. FaceAPI is a part of the instalation I guess. After installing these two things FaceTrackNoIR works fine on my computer. But I'm having trouble getting it work in game. I wonder if it will work on your computer. btw it seems i have the same problem as : I wonder if ryan found a solution.
-
That doesn't make much sense. There are only 2 other files besides the DLL - readme.txt and the INI file with recommended settings for the FaceTrackNoIR application. Both have no use in the bin folder. Anyway I just tried an axis tune in the GUI just to test if I get some data in the GUI and I get movement there, it looks fine. So why I don't get any movement in the sim ?
-
I did but it's all about older versions which doesn't work now. Lots of posts about the ppjoy setup etc which doesn't really help me. Or am I missing something ?
-
Yeah but I didn't get any response there so tried to post the question here. Well thanks for your help anyway. I will play with this some more and hopefuly find a way to make it work. I'm not sure if I got the correct combination of FaceTrackNoIR and HeadTracker.DLL. I use these : http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/information_links/download.htm - Eagle Dynamics API interface DLL (64 bit) - FaceTrackNoIR v160
-
Nope. The old version worked like that - it was writing some stuff into the DLLs in the bin folder (and it doesnt work with the new DCS version). The new fixer version works differently (see the screenshot). It's just searching for trackir games endlessly. I think it doesn't recognize the new dcs version is running. But I think it shouldn't be neccessary to have this. This is only used to decrypt encoded TrackIR traffic or something like that right ? But since I'm using freetrack (not faketrackir) protocol I shouldn't need this, right ?
