  1. Thanks for the tip! Thanks a lot for this awesome tip! Works great. Got it done in 10 minutes - thanks to your how-to it was very easy, absolutely no harm done to the throttle and those annoying detents are gone so the throttle is nice and smooth all the way! Perfect! Thanks again. edit : hmm, can't give you rep+ for some reason :-/
  2. You can edit every snapview FOV in there, right ? I'm more interested in increasing the max "zoom in" limit (min fov) if that's possible because I use freetrack so I don't really use snapviews at all.
  3. Bump, anyone please figured out how to change the default min 20 deg FOV ? I'm now flying Su25A a lot and I'd really like to tweak this a little but, as mentioned earlier, editing the DCS World\Config\View\Server.lua CameraViewAngleLimits parameter doesn't do the trick.
  4. Those hills, forests and mountains look amazing in the outerra. This is how I imagine "next-gen" engine - fractal generated environment look very realistic (duh:-)).
  5. Same here mate! I used to play F/A-18 Hornet 3.0 and then F/A-18 Hornet Korea - it was amazing sim! I was also like 13 y/o and also I think this is why I love hornet to this day - it was my first true flight sim. Can't wait for the DCS hornet to come out!
  6. Or you can open command line (cmd) and make yourself a symbolic link like I do cause I have my missions stored on my server : mklink /D "C:\Users\LanmanCZ\Saved Games\DCS\Missions" "U:\DCS\Missions" And Bob's your uncle!
  7. Or check out FreeTrack - you have to make yourself a silly hat with 3 reflective points it can track but it works with every 10$ cheap webcam with IR diodes (a4tech pk-333mb for example) and once you have it setup it works like charm ... for free ... I've been using it for couple of years now with DCS and got no problems.
  8. Alright, that's fine then. Thanks.
  9. Well, good news I guess but it could have been announced sooner that release of the whole FC3 bundle as a LockOn free DCS module was in the pipeline. So far I understood that FC3 will always require LockOn and the only way to get the planes LockOn free was to get the individual modules one by one. So I already bought A10A and SU25 and was waiting for the standalone F15 to be the next one to buy. So now if I buy the whole DCS FC3 pack I will have the A10A and SU25 licenses twice. Can I at least give them to a friend ?
  10. From manual (page 133) : Crossfeed Switch. Although the A-10C fuel system is designed with two parallel fuel systems, setting the Crossfeed switch to CROSSFEED will link the two fuel systems and allow the boost pumps to feed both engines. If the Crossfeed switch is set to OFF, both fuel systems are isolated. You would most often use Crossfeed when one of the boost pumps fails. Tank Gate Switch. Linking the left and right main fuel tanks is a transfer valve that may be opened by setting the TK GATE switch to the OPEN position. Setting this switch to CLOSE will isolate the two tanks from each other. Generally you will want to keep this switch disabled as being enabled can lead to fuel center of gravity problems.
  11. Add this URL as a custom filter into AdBlock and the lights will be gone : http://forums.eagle.ru/christmaslights/
  12. You can force your CPU clock to max speed anytime by accessing advanced options of your power management profile in Windows and setting minimal CPU state to 100% (the default is 5%). This way Windows will keep your CPU clock at maximum. I think it's a good idea to make new MAX profile and use it while flying. Then when you're done with DCS you can switch back to your normal profile and again allow Windows to throttle down when CPU power is not needed.
  13. Don't forget to trim! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trim_tab Check your trim key mapping in settings and use them often.
  14. Yes - as it was said before - the best thing in this case to backup the whole DCS directory from your Saved Games folder in your system user folder - in Win7 for example in : C:\Users\<user>\Saved Games\ Just copy the whole DCS folder to USB drive for example and after reinstall put it back in there and you will have all your settings and everything back.
  15. It's not as hard as it looks. You can be flying around, shooting mavs and dropping clusters in a couple of hours. Personally what I do when I buy new DCS module (got 'em all and they're all worth it!) is that I open mission editor, create empty mission, put my new toy on empty airfield and learn cold start by watching some youtube videos. It becomes second nature after few times you do it and you will also learn a little how the aircraft works in the process (if you're interested what's some gizmo for exactly you can check the manual - you surely don't have to read everything from start to end - just find stuff that you want to learn about - it all comes together after a while). Then I learn to taxi, takeoff, fly around a bit, land - the basic stuff - still within the empty mission. Then I put some evil enemy trucks a couple of miles outside the airport and learn how to use various weapons again by watching youtube tutorials. This is not a problem to learn during one weekend. The basics are pretty simple. Then the real fun begins - while you are having fun flying around, blowing stuff up you can then go deeper, learn more by reading manuals, watching some advanced tutorials and even reading these forums - lots of interesting stuff you can read around here. But you don't need to understand every CDU page and know every RL procedure just to have some fun with the hog (but in the long run you surely need to have the interest to learn - this is a sim after all - that's why we love it). As I said - the basics are not that hard to learn - the real trick is then the proper flying and learning to use the thing effectively. PS: Actually the first thing you should do (and yes it's a bit tedious) is to setup your hotas controls. I have pretty crappy throttle and stick but I use this utility called JoyToKey which allows me to remap 3 buttons on my throttle to act as CTRL, ALT and SHIFT (so I effectively have 4x more buttons available to map) so then I can setup all the necessary hotas functions by combining these modifiers with the buttons and hat that I have on my stick. Works great - using this method I have everyhing I need mappend to my throttle and stick so I actually only rarely have to take my hands off and use keyboard - pretty much only for radios (or when I want to mess with CDU or so I use mouse). There are also 2 PDF files that you can download that show exactly what each hotas fuction does in every context - its quite helpful to get the hotas set properly - but be prepared that you will most probably redo it several times until you find the sweet spot that fits you the best (but in upcoming 1.2.7 patch it should be finally possible to do this while in game so doing this will be much more comfortable than it is now) : http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=64637&d=1334059478
  16. Hi, I've been using FreeTrack so far but I'd like to upgrade to TIR5 when I noticed that I can order Oculus Rift in my favorite local e-shop. The price is not that different - TIR5 is a bit cheaper but OR should be worth the extra buck I think. The question is what do you guys think ? Are you using OR with DCS ? How does it work ? I understand that there should be some new OR version in early 2014, correct ? Is it worh waiting for it or should I just buy TIR5 as it's tested and works well with DCS ?
  17. If it's going to be implemented then please add an option to turn it off. Personally motion blur is the first thing I turn off in games - but Arma3 for example has a nice slider so you can keep it very subtle - I keep it at 20% and thats OK - it doesn't really provide any more speed sensation but makes looking around feel more smooth at this low level.
  18. Yeah, I got the same problem. Whenever I try to get into the AO the damn 29s go right for me while our F-15s are just chillin' at 35.000, doing pretty much nothing.
  19. I think it was already explained to you but I'll try one more time, ready ? Here we go : >>> You get back your last activation every 30 days <<< = this means that you will NEVER run out of activations
  20. yeah thats because normal AA only smooths the edges of 3d objects but TSSAA (Transparency Super-sampling Anti-aliasing) is on top of that smoothing also transparent textures such as fences, trees, grass, etc - thats why there is noticable fps hit as this means a lot more stuff to compute.
  21. wth, I have no idea why this second post is here. sorry abou that
  22. I think having 8+ GB of RAM is good because you can completely disable swap which is a definitive plus. I think 8-12 GB is optimal today. I had 6GB on my old PC and it wasn't enough to have swap off. The reason I bought 16 instead of 12 is that a) it's cheap so why not and b) Having 12 GB would require to have 3x4GB modules instead of 2x8GB. edit: I wonder how you make dcs to take 3.7 gb ram on a pc with 4 gigs ... must be a lot of swapping going on there - now I just checked and with swap off I have 2.5GB used (about 350MB by chrome, the rest is system + services).
  23. Yeah, I can confirm this. I just got it and DCS runs fine with all on high (except civ traffic - I keep it off) + 4x AA @ 1920x1080.
  24. So I did it. Bought the i5 3570K, overclocked it to 4.2 GHz with the GTX760 as my graphics card and I can say it works like charm. I now got everything in DCS World at max settings (except civ traffic) and in A10C the framerate is absolutely smooth and stable. I didn't yet test any big mission to look how it handles large numbers of units, just one of my missions I used to play with my old Q9400 (with everything on low back then) and the result is just beautiful :-)
