Radio frequencies for P51 need to be configured in mission editor before the mission starts - you have only A,B,C and D radio buttons there and cannot change the frequency in flight. So you have to open the mission and change these frequencies as you need.

Oh, you're right ! I didn't notice there was a new ground crew submenu there. I didn't even use ground crew comm menu lately in P51 since we got refuel and rearm window. Cool, thanks for tip. PS : maybe there should be a repair button there in the refuel&rearm window as well.
-
Rearming works even if you're upside down and missing a wing  - I screwed up takeoff but didn't blow up so I used the rearming dialog to rearm and this is what happened. :)

Hey, thanks for reply. I did that, didn't help - see the mission file I attached. The airport is set to BLUE and I even got some friendly units around including fuel and ammo trucks. Still no luck with repairs though.

Hey, In previous versions of DCS I was used to be able to repair my crippled bird after landing at friendly airport but it doesn't work in the new version (I don't see any "REPAIR in 180 seconds" or so message as I used to get after landing). Do I need to add some special units or something to the friendly airport to be able to repair planes after landing ? edit : added the mission file P51D - 00 - TEST.miz

Hey, I noticed that as well. But I discovered that if I leave the throttle at idle it start perfectly every time (summer, 20 deg C). Only if I give it a little throttle as instructed by the training videos I can't get it started.

Hey, just a quick question - whats the new comms menu shortcut in P51D ? The "\" doesnt work (maybe only in easy mode) but if i click the radio button on the throttle with a mouse I see the radio menu pop up . I just don't know how is this button labeled in the P51D real control settings. ps : im not using easy comms or game mode edit : oh I see, sorry, its the Push To Talk button - RALT+\

Do you run/use any mods / modified files?
lanmancz replied to MadTommy's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I use pretty much only custom snapviews, labels and a bit of graphics.cfg tweaking to get better performace on my box. Are these considered mods to be overwriten with each auto update as well ? edit : Oh, just updated and I see they are. Maybe the auto updater should backup only files that are actually changed in the last update. -
Will it support multiple cores ? I think that would really be the most useful feature of the new engine and it would boost the fps a lot.

Freetrack not working in 1.2.0.62305
lanmancz replied to ShuRugal's topic in Controller Profiles and Problems
It's easy - forget all other fixes. All you need to do after fresh install is to edit the Scripts/Input/Input.lua file and change the following line to absolute path like this (in my case): NewInput.setHeadTrackerDllPath('C:/Games/DCS World/bin/headtracker/HeadTracker.dll') This works in every DCSW version so far AFAIK. Just tested it yesterday after 1.2.0.63205 install. -
You need to install the whole new game from the first link. Notice that it's version 1.2.0.0 (new) and the patch is 1.1.2.1 (old).
-
Not quite true - if you have tweaked some of the lua files in the game dir (graphics, input, labels, snapviews etc.) you need to backup those manualy.

Can't wait to fly this one

I also had similar thing happen to me once. I created a simple takeoff-land mission in editor and while I was starting the airplane it exploded. I think it happened when I hit the starter switch. I might even saved a track, I'm not sure. I will check and add it to this message if I got it. edit : yep I got it. First I start the plane normaly but I crash horribly during takeoff cause I was looking everywhere but on the runway . Then I spawn a new plane and when I hit the starter it blows up. Its recorded in the original beta version, when this was recorded there was no patch yet. BLOW-UP.trk

I agree with the OP. I love DCS, got all DCS sims so far (and will buy more). But I never liked LockOn. The thing I hated about it is exacly why I love DCS and what the OP is saying - non-interractive ugly 2d cockpit. I hated that I had to learn hundreds of key bindings + the instruments themselves. What I love about DCS is that I can set only few most important keys and do the rest with the mouse. If I want to push a button I can quickly click it and I don't have to remember that its shortcut is CTRL+SHIFT+T (whatever that is). That's the reason why I'd never buy FC. DCS is a way to go for me. 3D interactive cockpit upgrade for the Toad would be great though. edit : I will try the HD pit, it's true that it looks nicer on the screenshots posted here.

Yeah, flying with helpers off is really much harder than in A10C with the modern stability augmentation - trimm really becomes your best friend. But it's a lot of fun too ! It really surprised me that you can really feel the flight as never before, it somehow feels more real to me. I did all the tutorial missions and I started the challenge campaign. I'm now in mission 10 or 11 and I can say that it's really a lot of fun to fly this bird.

Do we have Freetrack users here?? Is it working?
lanmancz replied to jk9's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yup, same here. I tried both 32bit and 64bit (I use 64 with my other DCS sims) headtracker.dll and none of them work. Any tips ? -
Paid and downloading ! Great stuff !!!

Game mode works fine. I used to play black shark in game mode over lan with a friend who didn't have a collective stick so we couldn't play in sim mode. You have to open the mission you want to play in mission editor and in CUSTOMIZE - MISSION OPTIONS check both Game Flight Mode check boxes and then save the mission (you will maybe have to copy the edited mission to your friends computer as well. I'm not sure about this - it's been a long time since I played multiplayer and I don't remember if the game downloads missions automatically from the server or not). Also make sure that in Options - Gameplay you have unchecked the "Use these options for all missions" checkbox so the game will use the game setting saved in the mission as its loaded by the server and not force your personal settings over it.

I don't think it matters at all (lasing) when you're locking the target in POINT mode and then passing the angles to mav seeker that is also locked optically (it locks on the contrast in the picture not on the coords). This imho becomes important only for gps guided munition.
-
Well imagine it like this : you can't just land on any random airport and expect to have ground crew with equipment and supplies to maintain your A10 there. In my missions I always create few blue airports, few red airports and I leave the rest neutral/civilian. Also it should be specified in briefing which airports you can use to rearm / refuel.

Yeah but facetracknoir is not very good in my opinion. Or at least I wasn't able to make it work fine when I was experimenting with it on my laptop (i5). There's about 1+ sec delay in the movement, it loses track of your face often, it needs very bright light shining directly to your face to be able to track it, it just wasn't very good for actual use in the sim. It's nice idea but it's not reliable enough. That said I can really recommend freetrack. I didn't know this existed when I was trying facetracknoir. Before I thought there was only TrackIR which is expensive. Someone mentioned to me freetrack in the facetracknoir forum and it's really a way to go if you want to be able to look around the cockpit for just few dollars. It's very easy to make (you just need a webcam with ir diode lights (I use cheap A4tech pk-333) and baseball cap with 3 reflective strips glued on it) it's cheap (10-20$ total cost) and it works great (you have to be in a dark room).
-
I can also recommend to buy this sim (and BS2 as well!). It's well worth the price. But for start you don't really need all this expensive hardware mentioned above. I've been playing for about a year and I'm still flying with cheap logitech extreme 3d pro and after some axis tweaking it works ok. As for the track ir - I recommend you to check out freetrack. I build my own freetrack kit for about 10$ and it works like magic.

Oh, so IRL when you takeoff and get to some safe altitude (depending on the area) you are supposed to set your pressure setting to 2992 regardless of the local conditions and continue to climb to your assigned flight level ? Now it makes sens to me. Otherwise pilots would have to constantly reset their pressures settings. In fact you reset it to local QFE just when you get your approach clearnce (and local QFE) otherwise you leave it at 2992, right ? Thanks.
