I always found displays (HUD, radar screens) to be rather cluttered too, when looking at them on static imagees (or not actually *using* them).
However after knowing how to read them and more importantly, seeing them in dynamic situations, they appear much clearer because some of the display items are static, some other are moving with a waypoint, others are moving with the target. At this point the eye will naturally isolate a group of item moving with a point of interest (be it static, waypoint, target, hook, whatever) and make reading easier.
In the end, it's usually more useful than confusing :thumbup:
