  1. Read my post, I meant more vulnerable to IADS than non-IADS. I didn't put any other aircraft into this comparison. Just saying that whatever how stealthy a plane is, it will have hard times hiding from a truly integrated system.
  2. That's a lot of IFs... I think the F-35 will be more vulnerable to integrated defense systems (rather than "traditional" defense systems), since its RCS is optimized only in one direction. It will be seen more easily from multiple angles. What is the commonality between ASH and SH? The U.S. navy already have a bunch of them so the parts pipeline should be here for them. Speaking of the airframes themselves the ASH seem to have more growth potential, even if inferior than the F-35 on stealth, comparing the two should be interesting.
  3. Good points, I agree, especially the "overkill" part. I think they need something modular. I.e. a basic workhorse that can have capabilities extended through the use of better payload when necessary (jamming pods, smart / standoff weapons). Edit: Sorry for off topic btw. I won't add more here, promise. :music_whistling:
  4. Not sure to understand this, do you think Canada won't be able to do any external operations if they don't choose the F-35? That's a bit extreme. I just hope they will choose an aircraft that doesn't suck the budget dry and ensures reasonable technology transfers.
  5. Hello the DX axis assignment is made by default, so if your script is empty you'll at least have the DX buttons mapped (see my example script above). However for the throttle this default DX mapping won't map all buttons because there are too. many buttons on stick+throttle. There is a workaround if you wish to get the correct default mapping for the throttle (see the link in my previous postl.
  6. Sorry I missed this post  I don't have a script using the CREATE_KEYBOARD+CREATE_MOUSE hack right now (I just did some throw away tests for now). Is that what you need? If you need some generic TARGET programming I can just dump one of my scripts here - or maybe it would be better to create a new thread with your requests.
  7. Can you paste your script here? Here's a basic one that works: include "target.tmh" int main() { /////////////////// Setup and initialisation /////////////////// Configure(&HCougar, MODE_EXCLUDED); Configure(&T16000, MODE_EXCLUDED); Configure(&LMFD, MODE_EXCLUDED); Configure(&RMFD, MODE_EXCLUDED); // Configure(&Joystick, MODE_EXCLUDED); Configure(&Throttle, MODE_EXCLUDED); if(Init(&EventHandle)) return 1; SetKBRate(70, 50); // Keyboard pulse and delay times in ms SetKBLayout(KB_ENG); MapAxis(&Joystick, JOYX, DX_X_AXIS, AXIS_NORMAL, MAP_ABSOLUTE); SetSCurve(&Joystick, JOYX, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0); MapAxis(&Joystick, JOYY, DX_Y_AXIS, AXIS_NORMAL, MAP_ABSOLUTE); SetSCurve(&Joystick, JOYY, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0); } int EventHandle(int type, alias o, int x) { DefaultMapping(&o, x); } Note that all controllers were excluded except the stick. You might need to fiddle with configuration files if the default mapping of the "Thrusmaster Combined" isn't exactly like the Warthog stick's default, but as far as I remember you won't need that. It's possible to do a standalone configuration for the throttle too but it's a bit trickier (in this case, check this thread).
  8. Hello, regarding point 2, I suggest (1) tune your PRMG receiver (both dials) to the terrain's PRMG, set runway course on the HSI, you should hear the morse code from PRMG station and see distance to runway as well as direction on HSI. (2) When you are in range of the runway, switch to landing mode (switch down), red flags on ADI indicating that PRMG station are not in range should appear. (3) When you catch the PRMG signals (red flags disappear, PRMG white barrs appear on HSI), activate SAU landing command mode (left most button on SAU panel, this mode disconnects itself easily so check the button is still lit green from time to time). With this mode enabled the ADI will show cues (yellow bars) on how to maneuver your aircraft to stay on course. Make sure you maintain correct speeds (see earlier posts in this thread) and follow the yellow bars  Then practice, practice and practice :D It seems tedious but once you get an almost right approach this will help to refine it further.
  9. A Mirage III would be awesome:pilotfly:
  10. On top of my head I'd say you should put the piper above the target, not under. I think a shallow dive (just like a rocket attack) is the best angle, but I might be wrong here, I haven't shot a Grom for a while.
  11. Good stuff. I forgot we can pause TrackIR too
  12. Much different lol. No strength indicator, only 4 sectors :D (or 8 sectors if you count narrower transitions between sectors). Also you can't tell if you're locked or shot at - when you're locked/shot at, the RWR shows all directions. In a MiG-21 your RWR is not capable of giving you enough indications whether a missile is on it's way ot not, so for this aircraft and era it's more visual. So, short answer to the original question: - MiG-21 vs WVR: spot the smoke, apply short range evasion techniques - MiG-21 vs BVR: run away / hide / ambush - Other vs BVR: guess time before impact using RWR and math voodoo (my question), apply BVR evasion techniques
  13. Good read, I have one question though, how do you figure out the missile's distance? In that article (and other similar articles), one reads "once the missile is at about distance X then do maneuver Y)", but how do you figure that out? Do you guess it using known missile type, speed and typical launch/pitbull distance? I suppose the experienced guys have some tricks up their sleeves for this
  14. Hello, since I fly with an aircraft that requires switching thing even in the middle of a fight (MIG-21BIS), I use snap views to facilitate this, here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=144965 the best solution for this problem would be a cursor unaffected by head movement that is "dragged" by the view border - or better, by the limits of a configured viewpoint (just like the GUI viewpoint). Dunno if the sim allows this, it seems difficult to do...
  15. Hello, this might have been posted before, it's a great watch (6 parts): Art of the Kill basic fighter manoeuvres instructional video from Falcon 3 Gold. EDIT: already posted, I remove the link...
  16. It's a good way to spend time :D My .02: MiG-21 will get spanked by the Mirage-2000C just like against the F-15, I mean, once you're on the scopes, you're toast ;) Of course players that are good at ambushing will rack some kills but for a normal player like me it shouldn't be any easier (I think I have a 1:100 kill ratio in the MiG-21BIS ).
  17. For the most tedious calculations you can make yourself a crude computer like this one: http://ben.com/flying/e6b/ I used one in the past that I lost but I confirm it's super useful.
  18. I think the correct answer was given on first posts :p What would be the "correct" answer according to you? Just curious
  19. I was curious to see what the real TGP sees, tried a quick google search to get some real images but I didn't find much in a short time, maybe you guys have some good links? Here's one picture I took from a documentary on youtube, as we can see the ground adds clutter but tank is still much darker than the ground. Here:
  20. What do you mean by "between the two"? Is it about "freshness" or "wholeness"? The above solutions will provide you a nice, brand new smoke column with barbecue-ready, still hot wreckage. However I don't think there is currently a solution to add a not-so-destroyed wreckage (e.g. slight landing mishap with fire or rusty abandoned airframe, that kind of stuff) :/
  21. No worries - mavs on M-2000C would have been great but it's fine as it is. We'll have to wait for Hornet. I think I asked this before but I don't remember an answer, how many unguided rocket can we put on it? High speed rocket attacks are so fun D Is the dual launcher usable with rocket pods? Thanks
  22. No mavericks on the Mirage 2000C so everything about it is quite irrelevant in this thread :music_whistling:
  23. Sounds fun, tonight I make a track about this situation and I will try to put some explanations on top of it :joystick: EDIT: Tried a couple of times, what worked best is the good old scissors (flat/rolling, depends on the situation), you need to time your turns to put the bad guy out of sync with you to create separation. Don't hesitate to pull a lot of G's, unload and accelerate when you can. Keep in mind this is against AI, no missiles ;) InstantActionDogfight-MiG-21BIS_F-4E_1-quick.trk InstantActionDogfight-MiG-21BIS_F-4E_2-quick.trk InstantActionDogfight-MiG-21BIS_F-4E_3-quick.trk
  24. Actually it doesn't have that much thrust but it can reach high speeds due to its aerodynamic shape. Unfortunately this speed is lost fast when you pull too much AoA, preventing it to be good in the vertical. Against the F-4 what works best for me is to keep speed high and stay horizontal. When I have excess speed I do yo-yo's to gain angles, without going too much in the vertical - keep an eye on the speedo, another eye on the AoA indicator and one more eye on the bandit :D
  25. It's a bit early to ask for tips - without the aircraft. No one has experience with it so it's mostly speculation. Before it is released I guess the best place to ask is in the Mirage-2000 discussion thread.
