  1. Ok thanks guys, that was a good read in the other thread. I think I understand now :D
  2. It's simply a factor of the superchargers design limits, I'll try to explain. As the aircraft is climbing at full throttle it is letting as much air as possible though the throttle and into the inlet manifold. As altitude increases the pressure begins to drop as the air is thinner, and the first stage of the supercharge cannot utilize the intake as efficiently. As a result the horsepower begins to drop, as the lack of air starves the engine. At the critical altitude, 17,000 ft in this case, the second stage kicks in, which further compresses the air, in turn creating higher pressure at the inlet manifold, despite the thinner air. With the second stage in use the maximum horsepower that the engine can produce is 1400. Think of the second stage as an overhead that only benefits the aircraft at higher altitudes. Even though you have excessive MP the engine cannot utilize it at this stage, and you could even drop the throttle back while maintaining 1400 HP. Imagine an inverse of the system, where the second stage is enable by default. If this was the case on takeoff at low altitude you would be limited to the 1400 HP, despite having a full range of MP available, due to the overheads that enabling the 2 stage supercharger brings. So naturally you would kill the second stage, however once at altitude you would lose pressure and have to turn it back on eventually, or suffer a huge drop in power and speed. I hope my explanation is not too messy ;)
  3. Hi all! I have been experimenting with pushing the Mustang as hard as I can, and have come across something strange. Usually when I use WEP (Or even just high MP) I'll kill the engine pretty quickly, sometimes within a minute. However I was flying today and managed to fly with WEP at max throttle + max RPM giving a constant 75 MP. I flew like this for more than 20 minutes without any temps getting into the red. The only thing I changed was forcing the supercharger on while at low altitude, which for some reason brought my temps under control. Is this how a P-51 would perform or have I broken the system?
  4. I did a bit of research in the sim if your still interested? I found you can get a much smoother (You can't notice it at all) transition by setting the supercharger switch to HIGH while at a lower altitude. Note I had to manually bind the switch as the cover was always in the way so I could not click it. The trade off however was that you take a performance hit changing over so early, using the second stage of the supercharger at this altitude kills the power a bit, and it takes longer to climb up to high altitudes. From what I'm aware of unless something was to fail pilots would simple leave it in the AUTO position for the climb. I could be wrong across the board though, it was Christmas today after all so was pretty distracted :D
  5. As far as I know a surge like that is fine and is not detrimental to the aircraft. In a combat situation the aggressive throttle use or WEP activation would put the aircraft in the same or worse state, and for longer. A smooth transition would be nice, but not necessary at all. I will however load up the mustang now and have a shot at it.
  6. I will look into SLMOD. However in the meantime I decided to pickup CA on sale, a few SA-19's and SA-15's placed around the airbase should keep things under control
  7. Thanks, that seems like it should do the trick. Do you know how I would go about configuring it to kill a player or switch their team after they kill 3 players?
  8. Hi all, I'll keep this short and simple. I run a server for myself and my friends who play DCS:W. Usually we don't complete missions as such, more so we practice elements of the aircraft such as takeoff, landing, formation flying, airbase traffic patterns, weapon employment etc. Sometimes a player may get bored, feel left out, not in the mood, whatever the reason they start their own fun by teamkilling. Once a loaded A-10c is in the air with malicious intent it's near impossible to complete a ramp start and takeoff without getting wiped. So what I am looking for, is some mission editor functionality to deal with these situations. My mission already has AA setup around the base, so would be be a means to change a player to the RED team if they deal enough team damage? Or just make them explode, or anything of the sort? I'm open to any suggestions, and I'm aware I will probably get responses along the lines of 'Don't let these players join if thats how they act' however just keep in mind that they are friends who don't have as much enthusiasm in aviations and sims as you or me. Thanks guys!
  9. Try deleting your P51 input files, that fixed it for me when I had the same problem
  10. Thanks sorcer3r! I'll give that a shot! EDIT: Any tips on how to set that up?
  11. One that I made myself. But also I took the Elbrus Mountain Rescue mission and added 2 client slots. Then when I hosted the server I could pickup the beacon but my friend could not.
  12. Hi all, I'll keep it short and sweet. Just wondering if the ELT Radio Homing is supposed to work in multiplayer? I can create a server and as host I can pick up the beacon and its sound, however my clients connecting cannot. That's all, thanks!
  13. I'm in the same boat. I take time to look at the mission brief and plan out the best area to surprise any hostiles. Quite often I'll pickup something on my RWR and turn towards that, occasionally putting my own radar on but usually using EOS. However whoever spiked my normally just disappears and I end up flying around with not contacts. Some advice from expert pilots would be appreciated!
  14. Nice responses! I am also using a .bat at the moment, however I feel little features like this are what really make a solid game. For me I won't be having this issue anymore, It was more of a suggestion to help out others who don't access the forums as much.
  15. Just a simple suggestion a friend and I came up with. Like many of you I rely on my TrackIR for view controls while playing DCS. Opening is the software up manually is no big deal, however I feel having it launch automatically could have its benefits. Here's a good example : The two of us are having a good DCS session on a server hosted by me, and are a few hours into a mission of some sort. Then out of the blue my computer crashes and I have to reboot. I log back in and in a hurry I start up DCS forgetting to launch TrackIR. I get the server up and running and we both load in good to go, or so it would seem. Once I unpause the server and realize that my TrackIR us not functioning and I have to kill the server and load the game again. Now as I said, not a huge deal, but it would be simple to add an option in the settings to check for TrackIR.exe on launch, and if it's not detected to show a warning and / or launch the software. So there's my idea, feedback appreciated :D
  16. Hi all My parrot chewed my TrackIR to death, both the track clip and the trackir itself. I haven't been playing DCS recently, and was quite unhappy when I found out. So currently I am undecided on whether to replace it straight away with a new set, or wait until the Oculus Rift units are available for purchase. My big question is, will there be official / dedicated support the the OR by ED?Or will it have to be modded in? Further, does anyone have dev edition and would be willing to share their experiences? Also open to any feedback from other users on the topic of TrackIR and Oculus Rift. And if I've missed any other details, let me know! Thanks!
  17. Thanks guys, every single rate goes a long way :)
  18. Hi there, this isn't DCS related at all, however as an avid DCS fan I've been impressed with how much the community helps each other out, and I was hoping to get some of that love :P Basically I have submitted an item into the Steam workshop and need to spread it around so it gains abit of attention. I noticed that lots of the popular submissions started receiving alot of attention after the author got all of their friends to rate and comment, problem is I keep my friends list pretty clean so I can't really do that. So all I'm really asking is can anyone with a Steam account click the following link, and then click on the 'rate' thumbs up icon. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=188710261 If this goes well maybe I could do a rifle with the A-10c warthog insignia on it.... Anyway thanks in advance to anyone who shows interest, all I can really offer in return is help on photoshop related matters :D
  19. Any reason why that is?
  20. Using Steam vs. Standalone Installation Hi all! I've been a long time DCS player, as well as a Steam user. So I was excited to hear that DCS:W was coming the Steam. I have a few questions I want sorted out, and the other threads are overflowing with conflicting information so I can't determine whats going on. 1. Will there be a delay with updates being pushed out onto the Steam platform? 2. Will DCS:W utilize Steam cloud? i.e. If I install on another PC / reinstall my OS will my profile / control scheme be synced over? 3. Will I be able to add all of my existing modules into Steam? At current I was able to copy-paste my P51 serial in and it activated the module, however BS2, FC3 and the Huey would return a invalid code error. 4. Will I still need an installation of BS1 before I can run BS2? 5. Do I still need to run the starforce activator if I am running though Steam? As I still have the standalone version installed I can't tell ATM Hope you guys can help answer all these! I'll update my post with answers once I get them, to help others find the information they need. Thanks guys :)
  21. Wooo! Australia as a Country. Cheers ED
  22. Found the fix. I was placing static objects FARP Ammo and FARP Fuel, however for NATO units to resupply it appears you require the supply trucks.
  23. Hi all, I have built a mission that had a farp placed a while out from the starting airbase. When I flew over their and landed the FARP gave the 'Unable to comply' message when I requested refuel / rearm. I set some choppers to ramp start there and they receive the same message. The FARP itself is set to have unlimited munitions and fuel. Is there somthing I am missing? I can provide the mission file later if necessary. Thanks!
  24. Well everyone seems keen on the idea of an Official Updates sub-forum in each third party forum. Next question is, who do we need to contact / harass to get the ball rolling?
  25. Hi there, Just quickly voicing my opinions on how I feel that the current information flow is very unorganized and is a real pain to sort though. I'll start on a positive note and mention that all official news from Matt is very well presented and easy to access, and is even better with the weekly updates. However when I attempt to check on 3rd party modules I find it near impossible to find any actual content updates, as the Dev diary's and updates threads are open to public posting, and rapidly get filled with hundreds of posts which often go off topic. For example, I was quite interested when I saw the DCS:Hawk 'Developer Diary' thread, found here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=89722 On opening the thread I find that there are 62 pages of posts to sift though, and I cannot find any content on the module in there. So I was just wondering if anyone else had become frustrated with this approach, or am I missing something completely here? (I hope I don't sound to negative, just wanting to get my thoughts out there :)
