Cockpit flood lights do not work in MT
Crashdown replied to JackHammer89's topic in Problems and Bugs
First screenshot shows the flood lights off, second screenshot is them half-way on and last screenshot has them at full brightness. Cockpit remains dark. -
[NO LONGER PASSES IC] Improved Contact Dot Spotting (Updated v1.1)
Crashdown replied to Why485's topic in DCS Modding
I've been given this a go in various scenarios and the improvement is definitely felt while using headtracking on a 1080p monitor: I've always struggled with tracking an opponent visually even in supposedly ideal conditions, but with this modification I can actually keep track and reacquire reliably like I can in other sims. It's far from a perfect solution but it's still much better than how it has been for years. I've been around a long time and I understand your frustration. -
Likewise, all I'm seeing available on the store is the BS1 to BS2 upgrade, which I already own. Edit: I had forgotten to go through the transfer from upgrade to full BS2 license. As soon as I went through the process, the option to upgrade became available in the shop.

Wags also commented on the FCR in this comment and confirmed that the radar will arrive at a later date

Failed activation: "Invalid Hardware Code"
Crashdown replied to Crashdown's topic in Installation Problems
I double-checked, and it was indeed the wrong version. DCS:World is now working properly with the Ka-50 module. Thanks for the help. -
I recently re-installed DCS:World with the A-10C and Black Shark 2 modules, but when I go to multiplayer, the game asks me to authenticate my copy of BS2. So I input my serial number, press next and I get the following error: "Activation denied by server. Invalid Hardware Code. Make sure the Serial Number used is valid for the product you are trying to activate, generate a new Hardware Code and try again." Now, I can fly the A10 and the SU25 no problem online, but I'd really like to also fly the Akula. The DRM system tells me to generate a new Hardware Code, so how do I do that, and why would it tell me that it's the wrong code if my machine is the exact same one I had when I did the original installation?

Not gonna buy it, sorry. If I wanted a high-fidelity recreation of a turboprop aircraft I'd rather have the Skyraider (the predecessor of the A-10 and a beast of a plane), or if we want something modern, the Beechcraft AT-6B (the Texan II) would be a great addition. Or if we really want to add a WW2-era plane in a modern air combat simulator, we could have gone with something less boring than the P-51, like the P-38 Lightning! You can also kinda pretend it's a Bronco, although that's stretching it quite a bit.
-
I don't think I'll buy it. I will have to think about it. The compatibility with A-10 is nice and all, but most of the improvements don't interest me that much. I would get it in an heartbeat if it included the the Ka-50Sh/N, even if they aren't in production, but I think I'll pass for now.

Quick tip when engaging targets with the GAU-8: never ever underestimate a BMP-3. Generally spealing the AI tends to be good at hitting your plane at low altitude, and the 30mm autocannon will rip your wings off in a second. You can, however, still engage them with the GAU-8, as long as you do so from range and/or with the element of surprise. Just beware of them: I've flown with plenty of pilots that told me "I'm a flying tank! I don't have to worry about those groundpounders." whenever I warned them to be careful when dealing with those IFVs. To their credits, they all learned... after they were shot down.

Nice guide. Me and a couple of online buddies have experimented with the SADL, but only managed the Group/OwnID and sending text messages. I'll have to share this guide with them.

Indeed, the manual really need to be more clear on this. And I don't know how I missed this being mentioned previously in the thread. :music_whistling: Still, thanks for the explanation on how the Emergency Brake works, given that I've never had to use it, and as such I've never witnessed it in action.
-
Another thing one could do when on the ground would be pulling th Emergency Hand Brake. It's supposed to be used only if the hydraulics fail, but if some pilots are not able to keep the plane stationary for various reasons, it's there. It's probably misusing it, but it works. No idea if there are any long-term issues using it, however.

Well, first off you should just give each flight its own UHF freq, so that you don't have to hear them when they talk between each other. And then, as soon as you are comfortable with the plane, you should turn off all the radio assists: the radios are actually very easy to use, although it takes a moment to get used to operate the radio switch on your HOTAS insted of using the generic radio key that is only good when talking to the Ground Crew.

Cockpitshadows and HDR for Win x32
Crashdown replied to asparagin's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Well that good to hear! I honestly don't mind playing on a lower than maximum graphical setting for most games, even when I have the hardware to do so. But those blurry textures break the game for me. It's only a incredibly small part of the game, and I've got the cockpit pretty much memorized, so for the most part I can operate the A-10 blindfolded, but it's there. You do have a point, but ED could simply make it so that 32-bit users are warned that High mode is not stable/supported/recommended on 32-bit systems and that any complaints about crashes/stuttering/armageddon caused by using those will be ignored (and possibly laughed at). :D -
Cockpitshadows and HDR for Win x32
Crashdown replied to asparagin's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Lovely. The way I set up my game I managed to have a smooth game experience both in SP and online even though I am limited by my 32-bit system. But now, thanks to the new patch, the game looks horrid and I have to strain my eyes to read what the labes in my cockpit says. I understand not wanting to bother support an old OS, but with a bit of tweaking, us 32-bit users could run this well with a good graphical level even if it wasn't supported. So why was this changed? Why instead of not supporting you are actively penalizing us with this patch? -
100m is too close to drop a bomb. When calling CAS, with a Mk.82 you'd usually want your troops to be at least 300m away, if not 500m. From what I'm reading the Mk.82 has a CEP of about 110m, which means it has a 50% chance of it landing more than 110 meters away from the target. Now, it's true that the Mk.82 is "only" a 500 pounder, but it's still a dumb bomb, and as such when dropping it you want friendly forces to be as far away as they can. :smilewink:

How long did it take you to learn the A10?
Crashdown replied to Flacracker's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Mastered it? Not yet, not by a long shot. But it took me about 10 or so flight hours over the course of about two weeks to be able to use the A-10 effectively: after having learned the ramp start procedure (it's mostly remembering what has to be turned on before starting up the engines and then turning on everything else) and flew around a few hours in freeflight to get the hang of the plane, I did each training mission at least twice and then I would find one of the many training videos out there and try to repeat what they did. Now I know how to operate about 80-85% of the onboard systems. Hopefully I'll learn the rest in less than a year of constant flying. :D -
I've had this happen to me regularly when refueling. Sometimes (mostly online), depending on the mission I tend to go for a custom loadout, and that means also that I'll usually avoid filling my fuel tanks completely. As such, when I'm on the ground, doing a ramp start, I kindly ask the Chief to rearm my plane and refuel it. Sure enough, the ground crew gets to it, and once they are done, I actually start up the bird, doing the usual procedure of turning on battery power and the radio, asking permission to turn on the engine, and then go through all the procedures to get my bird up and running. And sure enough, five minutes later, after the EGI has finished aligning, I ask the tower permission to taxi, recieve it, slightly increase throttle enough to get my plane moving and then I always, inevitably hear the Chief yelling in my interphone "Hey, what are you doing?!". It seems that every time they refuel you, they always forget to detach the hose. :glare:
