Any any range you'd hope a visual launch to be successful, vertical scan (or even Bore) is a better option to at least try and confirm where its going to go.
-
You mean RTR? Launching at ~Mach 1.5 goes a long way, if they're above 15k'. Most won't be defending until that pitbull notification.
-
It should be noted that effective range of the 120 scales up with altitude, launch speed, and closure rate. At 40K' above mach 1 vs co altitude target, an 18-22nm is a very realistic kill. Diving on a lower (but still high) target can still get kills at 15nm. All of which are still after burn though however.

Nonsensical, within the context of this discussion. Not having these things would be a distinct disadvantage against a force that does. The best assumption a pilot can make going in to the air is that the other guy is at least equally trained as them. Technology is then used to give an edge above that. Otherwise, you might as well consider Jet engines a crutch (maybe true for ME-262 pilots). The P-51D is all we ever needed. There is simply a point where no amount of raw skill can make up for platform deficiencies. Something like JHMCS is a thing because A: its needed to maximize the capability of the AIM-9X, and B: contemporary opponents have this capability. It makes up for something the platform could not do. If a Flanker can both turn better and fire HOBS weapons, and you can't, its best not to merge in the first place. Since various factors could force one to happen, having the right tools as an option can go a long way.
-
In all likelihood I'd imagine the Eagle will get the 9X, without JHMCS. They've added support for other AIM-9 variants that the Eagle could carry, though they were older. Radar based cueing of up to 60 degrees, at longer range than the M (which has impressive range), with the same smokeless motor, is still going to own. It's like a better version of the ET and 73 combined in one missile.
-
This is the most nonsensical thing anyone could say. Those modern bits are whats called a force multiplier. In something like the Eagle (an air superiority fighter) its basically designed to win even if outnumbered. That was made especially true going up against a Russian doctrine of cheap but plentiful aircraft. The gun is literally backup weapon for when you've gotten too close to an enemy. By the time you're using it, you would have hoped to have sufficiently thinned the herd with your missiles. An Eagle with TWS and the AIM-120 can track and engage 4 bandits for a reason, that the gun won't get you.

Synthetic benches aren't very relevant by themselves. Plenty of real world game tests out the TI up as much as 35%. Now I'm not especially fond of Nvidia, so I don't rule out shenanigans, but test have been done with VR that show a much better handling of pixel density increases with the Ti. I have the ti only as a by product of impatience, as I really wanted to wait for AMD's Vega.
-
Yeah I finally broke down and got a GTX 1080ti myself, almost solely to up the Pixel Density. Beyond that, I even cranked everything to high and find that it remains quite playable.

Nvidia drivers have historically had lower CPU overhead. So any disparity you're likely to ever see scales with CPU performance. AMD's drivers have gotten better over time, as has CPU performance in general.

In the F-15C, Is "Home on Jam" also fire-and-forget?
blkspade replied to Spades_Neil's topic in F-15C for DCS World
Although the behavior seems inconsistent, I have noticed a tendency for SARH missile to keep tracking a jamming target fired after burn through with the lock being dropped by the launching platform. -
The ER is way out ahead of the 7 in kinetics. Its a Mach 4+ missile vs a Mach 3. The ER hits regularly tops around Mach 4.23 at altitude launched at a slower speed than you'd need in the Eagle to get a 120 that high. The AIM-7 might do 3.5-3.8 in the same scenario. In the right conditions the ER can and has reached an Eagle ahead of pitbull.

Robo Recall actually looks really fun, as well as a few other touch games. I just don't have the area for the standing gameplay right now.
-
I did get it without the touch, so maybe I'll think about picking that up.

Seriously, I just bought my Rift last Thursday.
-
This was me last night, and at work now feeling so drained... I probably spent an unhealthy amount of hours in VR.
-
I was thinking from my POV, since I use all my hats for combat related functions. Though I am also missing one (CMS) due to gravitational incident. I just ordered my Rift today, and will be going to pick it up soon. Maybe I should see if thrustmaster will sell me a stand-alone handle.

What I find a bit funny is that the 6900k gets 162 in the Cinebench single threaded test. My i7 4790k at stock settings already gets 165, and is currently getting 179 at 4.5Ghz. Makes any sort of upgrade a bit of a lateral move if I don't have the workload for all the extra threads. Though I ended up getting the i7 out of necessity, I have a real philosophical opposition to Intel. So if I ever upgrade, I'm happy that AMD chips are a real viable option again.

They have made the radio menus mouse clickable. So as long as you can find your mouse along with a button to actually engage the menu, you should be ok.
-
Considering other weapons released later for other modules have made their way to other supported aircraft, this may likely be the case here too. Like the AIM-9P5 brought in with the F-5E can be loaded onto the F-15C.

New vid card with older rig? Anyone?
blkspade replied to Aluminum Donkey's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
PCIe bandwidth is a huge non-issue in single card configs, especially when the card isn't at the very highest end. The IPC of a Core 2 chip is certainly a huge bottleneck for a game like DCS though. I'd imagine at 4.0Ghz, its probably about as good as my old Fx8350 at 4.5Ghz, which isn't great compared to the 4th gen i Series and up. -
Aren't a large portion of the front seat systems identical between the C and E, along with the most of general A-A functionality. Besides the obvious differences between the Main Panels, it seems reasonable that any info thats used for an ASM for one covers a whole lot of ground for the other.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
blkspade replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
You know I kept getting ambushed by a mirage the other day. He never got the kill on me, but got close twice and I found it extremely hard to spot him visually when he was right on my 6. His missiles didn't even seem to be making smoke trails. -

It was eagle firing an active missile at me while also in an eagle (always). A 120B at that range would have probably been more able to hit me, as they turn better. I was lower than him (where you'd typically find Russian drivers). I can't remember the specifics without digging up the tacview. -

I've dodged a 120 fired at 5nm, over flat desert in Nevada. In fact I've dodged such shots, more than once unaided by terrain in the Caucus. -
I would like to piggy back on this and bring up the fact that there is zero ground illumination on landing approach from that same light when the gear is down.
