What annoys me is people locking jammers without calling raygun, or having awacs available to confirm the jammer. Its basically pointless to lock a jam for an extended period of time like some people tend to do. Even worse is when they fire HOJ without knowing what they are firing at. The jammer works in an odd way versus the sams and AI in general I've noticed. It works for letting you get closer to sams (by design) before they can engage you, but only by having it on prior to their typical max engagement range. If you're inside of Rmax (AI will absolutely always engages clean contacts at Rmax) but outside of burn through, you can't break an AI lock by then turning on the jammer. This mechanic basically creates a scenario that encourages even more use of jammers, especially if you're extending out of enemy airspace.

AMD Catalyst 14.6 (Beta) Drivers

I'm glad to see that LCD overdrive is back. I will be installing these then. -
I actually find the AIM-9M to be quite useful. Given the state of the 120 usually bringing me closer to a bandit than I'd like to be, I've come to rely on the 9M a lot. Its been highly successful for me except against the flying tank MiG29 that always requires 2 hits to kill. The MiG seems to be able to plow through head-on shots against most missiles, still taking damage, but being largely unaffected. An Aim-9 hit probably feels like slight turbulence.

I was thinking of something more realistic, that actually exists. More importantly what would work with the sim as is. With an OR and a glove you'd then need an in Sim representation of a hand that maps to said glove, else it would translate very poorly. Then you'd have to hope that glove wouldn't be obtrusive to operating the actual controls. Track-IR, with touch screen is logical, direct, and functional now.
-
You missed the part where I mentioned a touch screen I guess. The real problem about that is that there was never a huge market for a 24"+ touch screen monitor, before Microsoft tried to force touch on the Desktop world with windows 8.

Technically you can download and install everything from the DCS site without purchasing it. Your purchase just grants you a key.
-
Which was really my point in mentioning it, since there is different content between the two. The plane details in the FC3 manual is basically a copy and paste from the FC2 one, with some references replaced, some not.
-
The F-15C specific manual for what ever reason is not included with the FC3 update. You do actually get it in the Stand-alone download, however.

There really isn't a need to remember so many key commands in the F-15, with any sort of decent hotas setup. I currently have the the TM Warthog, but have gone through some others. Under the current level of modeling, I only use the keyboard for the rearm/radio menus and to open/close my canopy. All of the F-15s mission critical functions are on the stick and throttle pretty much as it is anyway. While I have no issue with the idea of a clickable pit in theory, in practice its completely unnatural to actuate switches with a mouse, especially while airborne. Its something more logically suited for a touch screen. There happens to be an immense amount of leeway in Sim A/G, compared to A/A, to make a mouse a passable substitute.

No many shots fired in ideal conditions can still miss. I myself on maybe 3 occasions have evaded head-on AIM-120 shots from as close as 6nm. There is still the random glitch where a missile will disappear immediately after launch (self destruct).

I guess you might not realize that DCS doesn't have a crossfire profile, and tends to scale negatively in Crossfire. You will like see a performance increase by disabling crossfire.
-
Yeah I had forgotten to mention that in the other thread you posted.

I will note that if you open your refueling hatch while in NAV mode is does switch to TCN which gives you range to the tanker. Last time I checked it didn't provide a bearing, but I haven't needed to use this as a method of trying to locate the tanker for a really long time now.

While my experiments with the AFM do prove this to be quite true, a helmet launched R-73 is a major concern. In my practice gun-zo practice vs the AI Su-27 I can come around just ahead of him and get a VS lock, and maybe get a head-on snap shot kill. I have yet to enter that scenario vs a human flanker driver post AFM, but the R-73 would come into play here and it can be launched with great success ahead of an Aim-9 shot.

Its not even about going in with the intention of purely dogfighting, but being able to when the moment arrives. Given the that the F-15 itself is primarily well suited for BVR, the Mig/Su drivers that know what they are doing and like to live, generally have a WVR endgame in mind.

F-15 new flight model is utterly superb!
blkspade replied to atsmith6's topic in F-15C for DCS World
Actually considering that scene is descibed as the "Mig" doing a negative 4g pushover, the tomcat was in supposedly 4G inverted dive that I suppose could theoretically keep the fuel flowing. If you manage to get in that position in under 7 seconds and surprise them, their immediate response is likely going to be forward stick. -
I do a lot of dog fighting against the AI myself. The one thing they are moderately good at it forcing an overshoot. When you have them locked at 6 o'clock, pay close attention to your closure rate. One of things I do is get on their 6 and just learn to stay there without trying to kill them. Obviously you'll want to setup 1v1 for this. Eventually you'll get better at spotting your closure without relying on your radar.

A possibly silly question: Exporting FC3 displays into Android?
blkspade replied to Kenan's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
In the case of the F-15 at least, you can only export the VSD/Radar. The only was I have done it is with an app called IDisplay, that basically converts the device into a 2nd monitor. It works both wirelessly and via usb, but both options are extremely latent. That was the case on the last device I tried to use anyway. -
There is always someone around more deserving of an AMRAAM, to the face. Ka50s are a waste, especially when the missile is highly likely to miss. Aim9s are also the best way to find a KA hovering trying to base rape.
-
There isn't really much reason to be trying to kill a Ka-50 with radar missiles. They seem to fall quite easily to a single AIM-9, which just about never fails.
-
Speaking of the F-15 fuel system, the fuel capacity of the external tanks is wrong if assuming JP-4 like the internal fuel. I suppose its close enough if JP-8. Also when carrying 3 tanks, the center-line tank isn't supposed to be consumed unless the consumption rate exceeds the transfer capability. I have yet to produce a scenario where all 3 drop tanks aren't being consumed simultaneously.

HDR by design makes the brightest points really bright and the darkest points really dark. Its likely a flaw in the implementation as I have experienced it as well. It happens when the sun gets obscured from view at some randomly specific angle.

Exactly. If I fire a 10nm 120 at flanker and he survives without going defensive, I'm at the point of no return (7-8nm). You'd be dead trying to extend here, so might as well go for the merge anyway. With the AFM, you now have enough energy at mil power to stand a chance if you merge. I have certainly been more successful as of late in close quarters, where I can maintain sight on the enemy at least. I find myself wanting to merge more now. I quite intentionally merged with a Mig on the server the other day. For some reason he chose to try to extend rather than dogfight.
