  1. Its more of a matter of game dynamics, tied to how the F-15s performance has changed. Previously if you got dragged into ET range in the Eagle, the only way you would ever survive is to flare and maneuver with a reduced throttle setting. Likely if you were aware of the range you'd be out of AB already to deny the shot. Pre-AFM energy retention/recovery was really bad, so any situation where you survived the IR missile barrage left you pretty much helpless in a merge. If you didn't even have Aim9s equipped for that split second you would have a good solution, forget about it. At the same time you couldn't turn and run as you'd be an even easier target for an ET. When you have the occasional Russian driver that can press straight through an Aim-120 shot from 10-12nm, life becomes really difficult.
  2. Even with the 120 being crap and causing many engagements to degrade to a WVR fight, you can still beat the Su/MiG more often than not when this occurs in the Eagle. There are obviously people making the mistake of not carrying sidewinders in favor of 8 120s. The Eagle AFM has fixed a major issue I've always had attempting to dogfight vs the Russian drivers in the past. The Aim-9 is more functional now that it has ever been, and the number of times Iv'e lost a fight in the past from not having them with me is maddening.
  3. I don't exactly follow that logic that would suggest it could be a ATI issue. Outside of producing artifacts, a graphics card is only going to render what its being told, or fail to render it at all. Its not logical to think that ATI is magically rendering a proper effect that the engine isn't telling it to. It vastly more likely that Nvidia cards are clipping the effect off.
  4. Considering that it seems like it could be a driver related issue, there may not even be a simple way of doing that.
  5. I have mentioned numerous times that it isn't exactly rocket science to find an airfield in the F-15. Request inbound to desired airfield, point plane to heading given in response, cycle ils nav until you reach a waypoint that is roughly the heading and range given in the response (usually within ~10nm & ~10 degrees). It only ends up potentially being wrong in 2 sections of the map where there 2 or 3 airfields in very close proximity to each other. With visibility being mostly a non issue in DCS-land, you can see your true desired airfield once your in visible range of either.
  6. It seems that Betty only shouts out failures now, it is mostly likely changed to reflect the real F-15C. Its likely that you get more betty with radio assist turned on in the game options.
  7. It has no real function other than to display how much fuel is left in a given tank. Your assumptions are mostly right though feed is only internal. There isn't much to be gained by switching the display, especially if you already know that 13,455 is the point where you are using internal fuel. Since the fuel is consumed equally (and incorrrectly) from all 3 external tanks simultaneously, there isn't even a proper point to drop the wing tanks while retaining the center.
  8. I posted without reading the particular issues people were having and assumed different people could have the issue for different reasons. What I posted is from experience with Schannel completely unrelated to DCS. Your concerns about LSASS maybe a little overboard, unless your desktop uses your public IP address directly as opposed to going through a nat router.
  9. It is possible that if people are having SSL related connection issues due to the use of the Microsoft Schannel API, that it may be due to a truncated trusted certificated authority list. Its caused by having too large a list. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2801679
  10. The best range I've gotten an AIM-9 kill at vs a human opponent was about 6nm, 8-9nm vs AI. There is next to no scenario where you would/should get a 120 kill from 40nm at "medium" altitude with the current missile modeling against either human or AI. Perhaps 20nm if the bandit makes zero effort to evade. Heck some people manage to spoof the 120 head on at 12nm or less.
  11. Perhaps all this time where people have been getting better performance in general with Nvidia cards has been to subtle short-cuts resulting in things not being rendered. When the smoke was first introduced it was mostly only visible with HDR turned on from all but the MiG29. The fact that it was changed to work without HDR at the same level of smoke would seem to indicate that the smoke seen from all jets is more or less as intended.
  12. You are referring specifically to the AI MiG29 right. The reason why you never get a trail from the AI is because the computer cheats.
  13. It also appears this is the case in game as displayed by drop tank totals. While I typically don't fly with 3 drop tanks, there is still the issue where fuel is consumed from the center tank simultaneously with the wing tanks.
  14. True but the default behavior causes the mouse to fight with the TrackIR if you happen to accidentally bump the mouse. Which only further adds to the annoyance if you are playing back a track which remembers your head movement unless the mouse gets bumped. Even for those who don't use TrackIR, its neither logical nor intuitive to rely on the mouse for looking in the middle of combat. I try to make it habit to press LALT-C before beginning a track, and often end up doing mid-flight due to someone eventually bumping kbd/mouse tray. While it probably shouldn't be eliminated it would make more sense to have an option to change the default behavior.
  15. Ah nice, I wonder if anyone else caught this reference.
  16. So I happen to be looking at the fuel section of the product page and realized that the numbers don't add up to what I was looking into earlier as a part of a separate annoyance. So the total internal fuel weight is 13,455 lbs at 2070 gallons, which aligns perfectly with JP4 @ 6.5 lbs/gal. However if you apply that same logic to a 610 gal drop tank you'd get 3,965 lbs as opposed to the 4072 lbs listed on the product page. Is this an error or an indication that the drop tanks are loaded with something other JP-4, while not matching up to what I could find for -5 or -8?
  17. That cross is what you want. What you think you are looking for according to the manual is incorrect and was never updated. You can also refer to the yellow bars on the HSI for ils alignment.
  18. You have to hit the nav mode key (1) to enter ILS mode. In most cases the first time you do this it will put you on your starting airfield. However sometimes if you leave ILS mode and come back to it it skip to another airfield. Its somewhat of pain to have to sort through them after that as you end up having to extrapolate what should be the proper airfield with an ATC inbound request by range and bearing. I think if you make the request in Nav mode and then switch to ILS after the response it might auto select the proper airfield. This has happened once in one of my DACT missions that started in the air, so may have been a fluke.
  19. What The F-15 needs way more than a clickable cockpit is full hotas functionality. Multi-mode buttons like what exists for the A-10 module, would allow people to setup their joysticks very much like the real F-15. Even more so with those with the warthog stick, which is most of what makes the F-15E hotas, that I believe the latest F-15Cs mirror minus the A-G functions. The drop tank fuel consumption logic is still broken with 3 tanks, so the lack of manual control there is great annoyance. Outside of that the flicky switches are meaningless without all the avionics features. Most what you need to do with the F-15 should be done via the stick or throttle, and for those with a competent HOTAS would have ample buttons and switches to re-purpose as needed.
  20. This driver even manages to roughly double my minimum FPS in the F-15 campaign on a HD6970.
  21. While not quite the same as what you're getting at, I have found that the AI will attempt to RTB if they lose sight of you. Since they are not all-knowing anymore, they rely on more realistic sight and sensor input (modern aircraft). I have had a few instances where the AI and I lost each other in jets to eventually pick him back up 6nm+ away on radar extending. I guess at that point the combination of the ROE setting, and the RWR notification dictate the AI choice to recommit.
  22. Wait you can see smoke from all the aircraft with HDR off now in 1.2.8? That has been like my only reason for keeping HDR on.
  23. Which one is it, the forum or blog that you are looking for? I tested my forum login as Spade which worked just fine before signing up here. I didn't have a blog login but I did just create one, also Spade.

  25. I have no issue evading anyones missiles at that range, be it AI, human, eagle or otherwise. I guarantee you though most human F-15 pilots will be flying faster than AI would in a similar scenario, which translates into more missile speed. Without taking the time deeply inspect what is or isn't happening, I know that what I practice in SP works just as good in MP.
