  1. I'm voting for a India/pakistan or a Korea map. Both would lend themselves to use of many of the aircraft that we have and will have down the road. As tension has risen in Korea, realistic and believable campaigns would be possible, something that might be able to attract the casual gamer too. Think of it, F/A-18C is released along with Nevada map, a Hawaii map including a very large portion of sea, plus a map of the whole of Korea and the ocean around it and also a dynamic campaign generator. The main campaign would be a "complete" one that starts with your training as a F/A-18C pilot, first stationed at Nellis, later as your education moves on you get training aboard a carrier (using the Hawaii+ocean map). Soon after you receive your post abord a carrier, the Korean conflict becomes hot, and your carrier is part of the task force sent to the action... This way you'd get both training and combat in one huge campaign, coupled with a good campaign engine that can string the missions together, possibly even with some good acting and storytelling it could be fantastic!
  2. That's what I would want at least, in-game voice communication that uses the radio systems in each aircraft. It should also model things such as signal strength, terrain blocking, attenuation and more. I don't think we need completely correct models for this, but just enough so that it seems real. It would be more fun, and it could also be a strength in multiplayer if one team is better at using the in-game comms, unless the other team cheats and uses TS ;)
  3. I think it would be better to make the radios work realistically in the sim so that we would not need any 3rd party software.
  4. I knew it, coder C is surely spending too much time on the wrong floor, not filling his coding quota, that's why they can't even give us an estimated release date for F/A-18C!
  5. Yeah, I mean WTH man, give coder B and C some love!
  6. <installation folder>\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Bazar\TempTextures\Crowds_1_texture.bmp
  7. I wonder if they have permission for this ;) Is that Gordon Brown? :D
  8. There's never any mention of DCS, or flight sims in general on any major games site, Gamespot, IGN and the like, the rare reviews I've seen leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe we could start spreading the word of DCS to forums on some of these games sites.
  9. I've heard of something called yootuub, do you reckon that could be used somehow?
  10. That might be too simplistic as it would not account for cover.
  11. I considered creating the file, but thought it was better for him to learn how to do it himself. Oh well. Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life. ;)
  12. But there should be a checkbox below the radio buttons for hidden files. Uncheck that one.
  13. My guess is that ED is taking a chance with this trailer, they're primarily promoting FC3 but also throws in a few goodies from other modules hoping that when people look up FC3 they will understand how the land lies and perhaps buy a few modules more. Perhaps they should have gone with a DCS trailer instead, showing more from different modules and having a small text in a corner on which module is currently being displayed.
  14. My Windows is not in English so bear with me :) The file is still a txt.file. I think you have "hide file extensions for known file types" enabled. In the file manager, press F10 and choose "Tools > folder options". Go the the middle tab (view?) and uncheck "hide file extensions for known file types". Then rename the file again.
  15. Actually it is related to graphics, the slowdown only occurs when the the bomblets explode, not when they separate from the canister. If you drop a CBU-87 over water there is no slow down.
  16. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=106021 Edit: Sorted things out a bit. Create a text file in the folder C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\DCS\Config Rename itto: autoexec.cfg Paste the following line into the file and save it, it will give you an fps cap of 30. options.graphics.maxfps = 30
  17. I doubt any of that would be a problem with ED, it's not like they will just guess at what systems they can get info on. There's also no reason to exactly specify what systems will be modelled to what degree in a hypothetical kickstarter.
  18. I understand completely, but I strongly believe that donations towards such an expensive to produce product as a F/A-18C module is pointless. There's just not going to be very many that are willing to just give away their money like that, and thus the sum of money will be insignificant compared to the cost of development. You'd just end up buying ED a proverbial lunch, will that really benefit development? A crowd funding project would likely gather much more money. It's not that I think ED lacks the funding for the project, but if they created a kickstarter they could secure the funding for F/A-18C with the kickstarter and use the rest of their income for different projects. Also, for me personally it would feel good to have my F/A-18C module payed for with a rough release date.
  19. Kickstarter is neither a donation or throwing money away, it's just a pre-purchase ensuring that the funding of the project is met. No worries for ED and no worries for the customer is a good thing :)
  20. I'd be surprised if the F/A-18C will be out in beta that soon. It's probably more likely to be 2015 or 2016. Possibly even further down the road. Remember, there are lots of areas to develop besides just the aircraft. A2A radar may need some further development. Ground radar needs to be developed. Carrier operations. EDGE? More that I've not thought about?
