Cockpit interaction in future addons
Jason76 replied to aimmaverick's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
You make a good point aimaverick; it's even harder to fly the SU-25 standard version without the control animations... It would be nice to know exactly which navigation mode you are in right away, for instance. -
Thank you ED for 1.12!! that's all i wanted to say... :)

I don't think HOTAS is a necessity really... I have the CH Fighterstick, and the throttle slider works perfectly well for me. I have more than 90 commands mapped out onto the buttons through a combination of using the shift, alt, right win, and cntrl keys. I basically have my left hand moving from the throttle wheel to the shft, cntrl, etc. keys on the keyboard and vice versa, without missing a beat. So if I'd get the CH fighterstick for sure (best joystick out there in my opinion), hold off on the pro throttle, and get the trackIR immediately. It's a cliche that you'll hear often, but I don't how I flew without trackIR b4...

graphics anomolies at some airbases...
Jason76 replied to Jason76's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
lol .. i kinda supposd that at 1st, but when you park an A-10 next to them.. darn those are some bigass tool boxes. NOt that I know how large aircraft maintenance tool boxes are in real life. :icon_jook -
So far I have see the follwing at Saki and Oktayabrskoye airbases. They look kind of like miniature hangars on the aircraft parking areas... can somebody tell me what these things are? bug perhaps?

regarding the fuel tanks on the su-25, they do not show up if it is the 1st time you enter the payload screen (and haven't flown any missions with the su-25 yet). After you have entered and exited a mission, the fuel tanks show up fine and the payload screen works properly for every version of the su-25.

Is it possible to have your wingman attack a specific ground target (designated by the TISL diamonds on the A-10 HUD)? I've been trying to get '2' to attack by giving him the 'attack my target' command to no avail. It seems that I can only order '2' to "complete mission and rejoin" or "attack ground targets/air defense targets" to get him to attack. This would be quite useful if there is a specific target you want your wingman to hit it 1st in conjunction with your own attack run. And a follow up question.. When u order '2' to complete mission and rejoin, which targets will he choose 1st? The closest mission objectives to him or the order of the mission objectives as listed in the briefing??

I find the A-10 to be much more surviveable at higher altitudes (especially with IR missile launchers on the ground), but tree top level flying is way more fun! Kinda suicidal too...
-
Thanks for the replies guys; I've got lots of stuff to try now :) hmm, that's kinda weird. Okay I'm gonna stick with 50% from now on and see how that goes. One more thing though, at 90% I was launching at low altitude, max range... maybe that has something to do with the misses as well? Also my wingman's mavericks were missing as well, and I'm pretty sure they weren't getting shot down by the Strela.
-
With regards to the Maverick... yeah, I only launch when the cross is flashing.. but it still seems to miss more than it should (am launching at maximum range and 90% missile effectiveness).
-
I'm getting better at targetting and destroying enemy targets (though at 90% missile slidker setting, the Maverick seems to miss a lot). My main problem is that I am constantly gettin shot down by the Shilkas and/or the Strelas... :( What's a good defensive strategy to avoid the low altitude shilkas and the higher altitude strelas? And what's the best strategy to avoid getting hit after a missile launch? As of right now, my strategy is to break turn, drop to lower alyitude, and repeatedly launch chaff and flares... it doesn't always work...
-
you have to be in launch parameters b4 you can launch a missile in a russian plane. That means you have to be within the maximum range of the missile. At that point you will see a 'NP' symbol on your HUD which means that the missile can be launched.. hope that helps!

...on the History channel about the disaster at Nasariah (spelling it right?) during Iraqi Freedom. The part that stood out was the friendly fire incident involving a pair of A-10s. So Bravo company and Charlie company lost track of where each other were (and no radio connection) and both were pinned down and under enemy fire. Bravo company was able to contact an A-10 and his wingman and authorized fire on the northern bridge area where Charlie company was. Bravo company figured that Charlie company hadn't reached the objective yet. So what gets me is that one of the A-10 pilots contacted the foward observer of Bravo, and told him that he spotted enemy units at the northern bridge area. That was b4 Bravo authorized the attack. Umm... since when did the Iraqis have armored vehicles that look like American APCs? How could the A-10 pilot have thought that it spotted enemy units? I mean, did the Iraqis at the time have any armored carriers at all? I'm just curious; I don't know anythng about military procedure at all, but what was the A-10 pilot thinking??

It's okay Hans (i really like anti-aliasing)... I never get a CTD if i start lock-on, exit, then restart. Not a big deal; just curious why track-ir may cause a ctd, as I never get the ctd in overcast missions without it...
-
salivates... yes yes estimated time on release? The thing that single player lock-on lacks the most IMO is a sense of being there and no storyline that really connects misisons together. So far the missions kinda just feel like individual practice runs. But I guess it's what happens when you don't have a dynamic campaign system.
-
YAY a carrier landing! and i'm half drunk right now... :icon_jook
-
Hey Jay, I've been practicing a bit, and every landing gets better :) than the last... The landings with the non-su25/su-25t are getting a lot smoother now. Haven't yet tried a landing with the su-25, but that's a lil further down my list of things to try in lock-on :D
-
Is there a way to get "2" to land right after I land? It seems that after I land, my wingman seems to go off and fly around aimlessly. I've tried this with spacing (open, trail formation).
-
I made a carrier take-off mission in overcast weather yesterday, and was getting a crash to desktop during the loading screen (right before mission start). This occurs everytime if this is the very 1st mission I load after entering the game. I'm using track-ir, also. I've come up with 2 ways to get it to work: 1. don't use track-ir (AS IF!) 2. start lock-on. Immediately exit after main menu screen. Restart lock-on. Enter mision. Don't know why, but restarting the game after exiting from main menu seems to make things run a lil smoother... perhaps someone can enlighten me as to why? I have only seen this CTD when using track-ir trying to load an overcast mission

ok. Actually I think this bug only occurs with the GAI aircraft. Otherwise, you are able to mask yourself from the awacs by flying low and between mountains, and AIRBORNE enemy won't be alerted.
-
Well Ice, try creating a new mission; place your player craft at the extreme left of the map, add an enemy GAI aircraft at an airbase somewhere in the middle of the map, and add an enemy AWACS (doesn't matter what task is assigned) at the extreme right of the map. Start mission, wait 2 seconds... GAI aircraft ready to take off at the runway... :icon_roll
-
GAI aircraft will take off if an enemy AWACS is in the air period. I've tested this by placing the AI AWACS clear across the entire map (waay out of detection range) and as soon as u start the mission, GAI are already on the runway. At the very least, the GAI should be on the runway AFTER detection from enemy awacs, so I think this is a bug.
-
Okay I've been testing this out a bit: If there is an enemy awacs on the map, it doesn't matter how far away it is from you (across the entire map even), the GAI aircraft will always be on the runway ready to take off as soon as you start the mission. The enemy AWACS doesn't even have to detect you (no rwr signal), the GAI aircraft will be on the runway. The AI awacs is also waay to good at finding you, especially when compared with the new 'player' AI model. Furthermore, as long as the aircraft is in the air (A50 or E-3), it doesn't matter what task you set for them (you can have them do nothing), the GAI aircraft will be on the runway. So unless (or untill) this is adressed in a fix, I am only playing with friendly AWACS in the air. :icon_jook

With fog weather effcts, I AM seeing the smoke from the lau-61 wp, however, the more fog there is, the closer you have to be to see it (at a certain distance it disappears). Perhaps this was done on purpose (more fog = shorter viewable distance, makes sense).

TrackIR 3 (not the Pro version) and LOMAC
Jason76 replied to Kenan's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
TIR + vector is the best gaming peripheral I have ever purchased. Well that and my CH fighterstick. I don't know anybody who has anything bad to say aboout trackIR, especially in use with Lock-On.
