[Mi-8MTV2] "Vasilissa the Beautiful" HD Cockpit
Hueyman replied to DirtyFret's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Still a must today ... but I miss a Russian version so much ;( ... anything planned ? -
DCS Mi-8 is 7 years now, time for an update ?
Hueyman replied to Hueyman's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
In the mean time, a full 4K PBR retexturing as a free update a la IL2 would be great! -
To Belsimtek and Eagle Dynamics about the UH-1D Huey
Hueyman replied to DeTesla's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Great topic DeTesla thanks ! Kinda rejoin my old one : tps://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=259732 Finger crossed ! -
I have some hopes for the 2/3 years to come but.. any words from them would be nice. A little slow down of fixed wings releases would be nice to update the whole Heli fleet ( Mi-8 while great is getting old as well, 7 years already .. ). Of course paid upgrade are a base condition I think and I personally understand and agree with this

I wish to pay for that ! Any work should be rewarded, especially the extremely high quality our devs are producing. Let's give the Magnificient Eight a new life and more versatility ! -
True ! Asked a moderator to move it and he did it ( thanks Bignewy )

Didn't got your V2/V3 thing, where is V2 ? You mean release version (V1) ? -

Hueyman replied to Hueyman's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I don't see anywhere where I mentioned that I would not pay for it. Okay, I didn't mentioned the opposite too ! I would be ready to pay a lot for it actually. Adding all those extra features you listed would be nice of course, but all the visual things ( troops in, out etc ) are invisible from the Pilot perspective anyway. I don't care paying full price or even greater for a new Mi-8, simply because it's not mandatory, people could still fly the old one but that shouldn't prevent old airframes not to see a second life, with the benefits of the technology and knowledge they have nowadays. A thing really missing from a realistic and operational point of view is IFR all weather capability. I know early MTV2s were equipped like this one, but we would greatly make good use of VOR/ILS and RMI/DME equipments ( well, PRGM/RSBN for Russians ). Right now with NDB and Doppler, it's impossible to do a proper low-vis let down, let alone the GNS430 which is incomplete ). Actually, the Mi-8 is the most complex helicopter module in DCS, right after the grandpa Ka-50. It's flight model, electrical and hydraulic systems, and accurately simulated SAS/AP systems are impressive in terms of complexity, it's not the Huey which is straight forward, the implementation of the two TV3 and the way they work with the regulation etc ... impressive work so far. No need for a proper civilian conversion but improvements with external load would be welcome with the abilty to add up to 150ft long line and positionning working mirrors. Like the Huey ( which also needs a lot of love ! ) the Mi-8 is one of the most iconic helicopter on the planet, there would certainly be incomes from a V2 and even new features like modern avionic for more versatility. -
You're conscious about the functionning of a constant speed propeller right ? In the governing range ( " on speed " governor state, so generally in flight and not taxiing ), changing power ( meaning Manifold Pressure ) won't change at all the tone of the engine as it's spinning the exact same RPM due to CSU ( governor ) action, if no action is taken on the prop lever. You can hear a slight change of sound level due to the increased horsepower ( and so exhaust gases pressure being delivered ) but that's it.

As said above, the inertia wheel was mainly used to give that extra punch on the first revs to give a faster revving engine and so better start chances before the energy ran out. After that, direct cranking was acting hence the slow turning engine. You can still still start up a healthy and correctly primed engine with direct cranking starter in real life, as in DCS

It has been constantly updated and improved already, system wise and features as well at least. But 3D model and textures are starting to show their age and creates a big gap with industry current extreme high level of visual fidelity ( latest modules released and WiPs shots of the Mi-24 are simply mind blowing with higher polygon meshes, PBR materials, 4K, better normal maps, even the soldering marks of the windshield frames are accurately rendered ... ) I hope the Mi-8 and Huey are the next ones to get such love by Eagle dynamics, now Belsimtek merged together. Just a quick up of this topic I see the DCS world community is all dying for new faster and more deadly jets, a bit afraid us old helicopter fans will be a bit forgotten. Soon the KA50 will be fully overhauled and the Huey will be the oldest helicopter of the sim, closely followed by the Mi-8 which really show their ages compared to the latest BST/ED marvels such as the F-16/18 and Mi-24. The Huey definitely needs some love, as a real engine management and start up procedure we never had. An alternate Bell 204/UH-1B would be great too and it's really extremely close to the 205/UH-1H.

One good news is that, now the P-47 is out, the next module to be released should be the Hind if they stick to their plans !! Can't wait a new helo comes out, the current graphical level is astonishing

Wish: Course Deviation Indicator (CDI)
Hueyman replied to Viktor_UHPK's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I would also love that !! Practice IFR flights a lot and a proper CDI is really missing, avoiding to do VOR and ILS approaches... I really hope DCS will improve on that side, as well as add the possibility to easily add any kind of NAVAID in the mission editor -
I find this extremely interesting, love such history, thanks for sharing !

Hello ED, Fantastic work on the freshly released Jug !! But we still have this issue like in every current prop planes, when sitting on the ground ( AI for instance on the ramp or in multiplayer with outher player's aircraft ), they have their prop pitch visually set in a very flat pitch, like in bêta range or even reverse. It must be an easy fix for animation issue, but as you may already know, the minimum pitch for propellers of that era are always very positive ( generally +20°/+25° ), and never flat. I also noticed that in the P-47. Could you please correct that tiny detail before release ? The blade tips are also a bit narrower and less rounded as well as the spinner cover for the pitch changing mechanism is much longer ( first part is almost cylindrical before getting curved ) I hope this quick fix can be done in the early fixes/improvements before stable release Thank you

No Badriver that's different.. Yup Phantom we're not alone ! It's really bad we had to re install 300 Gigs of data just because a 250 Kb file may be corrupted or something... ED, please work on that ! It happened to me two times already, like if some connection or downloading issues happenned during updating, it bricks the whole install ..

Hi Bro ! Thanks for your reply, Tried everything, no joy.. have to do a full re-install once again, that's not the first time an update/new module is causing everything to Bazar and forcing a 3 days re-install of everything ... Am I the only one or the whole updating / file management process would need a major overhaul for more stability through the very regular updates ?

Have this message ( see log ) " ERROR: Can't move D:\Eagle Dynamics\Mods/tech/Supercarrier/dcs_manifest.x86_64 to D:\Eagle Dynamics\Mods/tech/Supercarrier/dcs_manifest.x86_64: (2) Le fichier spécifié est introuvable. " Tried uninstall, re-install, update repair with CMD etc no joy so far. Last time I had this I had to re-install everything which took me a week, please give me a better alternative :) Thanks, Hueyman autoupdate_log.txt

It’s actually an advanced SAS ( stability augmentation system ) which is technically an autopilot. Doesn’t have nowadays superior modes ( NAV, APPRO, VS etc .. ) doesn’t mean it’s not an AP. Properly used, it can hold current heading and altitude, and even altering it. Manual is very well made and a very detailed chapter explains ithe AP34B four channels AP, good reading :)

Looks like it is now !

Very good video to see how it flies

Cool ! Does anybody knows more about the avionics , From what I see I'm afraid, like in the Mi-8, that we'll miss a VOR/RSBN for proper IFR operations, looks like an ILS though on the ADI which is great and the RMI seems to be able to switch between ADF and VORs... I know Russians and VOR is a tricky story but still it really misses in DCS
