  1. I still can't update to 1.52, the launcher behaves like there's nothing new to download. Seems that most folks has managed to get 1.52, so I'm wondering if there could be some glitch on my side that prevents the updater to do its job
  2. +1, no matter which nation/model
  3. [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MXFnUJMRaY[/ame] I found this vid on the tube, at the start it says (erroneously I believe) BETAB-500, while in fact the weapon depicted is a sort of "CBU". Also seems that some intelligent submunitions not unlike the ones used by the USAF are being employed - does anybody know anything about these weapons, their designations and specifics?
  4. I'm having serious trouble finishing a very long mission in campaign, due to a crash. Logs seem to point out at problems with some su-25 textures. I'm adding the .log and .dmp files. Logs.zip
  5. Seems to me that the latest aircraft I saw in pics have the soviet style red star, without the blue outline. Yet I would surmise that probably it's not been standardized across all the air forces, in fact I believe that many regiments did not adopt the blue outline and kept the soviet style one. I've been a modeler since a couple of years ago, when I had to stop because I relocated to another place, although I'd love to resume that hobby(my area was more modern armored vehicles than planes, yet I made the 1:48 SU-27 kit from Academy and it 's one of the best models I ever bought). If I had to choose, as of today, I'd pick the red outlined star, yet it depends much on your inclinations: if you are interested in having the most realistic depiction of an airplane, it would be better researching into the matter - you decide which regiment of which unit your plane belongs and then try to find out what regulations that regiment currently has (difficult but not impossible). However, you may well be simply picking out by personal taste what solution you like more. Anyway - wish you happy modeling, if you feel posting pics of your builds, finished or in progress, would be a nice things for other modelers in this forum
  6. I'd suggest the 970 any time, I've got mine one year ago and it's doing wonderfully in every game or simulator I have
  7. Nonetheless, I'd bet that Razbam could make it at some point, they already made one for FSX and they seem very proficient in modeling those cold war era us navy aircraft (the Corsair they made for FSX is an absolute masterpiece imho, considering the limitations that sim has on aircraft, physics, etc)
  8. I have my joystick connected to a hub, so that I can disconnect it when I'm playing games that are disturbed by the joystick. Anyway, it works flawlessly, and I can't feel or see any difference in lag connecting it to the hub or directly on the mobo usb ports
  9. I'd buy Afghanistan before anything else. You could make countless missions and campaigns over that, from soviet times to today. Even hypotetical scenarios with wars between the soviets and pakistan over a-stan. Involvements of China and India. Would be awesome imho.
  10. I'll buy the SM as a full module, without the need of converting the A version - in fact the A is an important plane to have for scenarios based in the 80ies. I feel that the SM though is very much needed, and that there is not much on it being that secret not to allow it to be simmed.
  11. I've seen the screenshots of several models of russian air bombs being developed. I was wondering if, at some point, we could get back the large variety there was in Flanker, especially 2.0. I remember having a very extended selection of bombs to deploy, we had the ZAB series incendiaries, the ODAB thermobaric, the PK retarded and iirc, even the OFAB fragmentation, which are being used in the Syria operation. With Lock-on, the selection was restricted, now we just have the iron bombs and the rbk cluster. As a sidenote, I remember that the ZAB had a great effect (for the time) when it hit the ground; you could see a big, 3d rendered fire on impact, that then expanded all around as the fuel ignited.. it was great, and it's somehow a pity that some features that were present in that old, beloved sim are not modeled anymore (There were also a couple of other a2a missiles present, the one I can readily recall was the R-27EM.. but this is another topic)
  12. Why has it been removed? Can't assign red units to perform FAC into the editor. Is there a way to design something similar in a mission?
  13. damn. I assumed it was Syria because of the missile launches on what seem to be build-up areas.
  14. Yeah, I wish it too. Considering that the base Frogfoot we have is the 70ies version and the T-Frog is not in service, this model would be very refreshing. Wouldn't mind if some external dev like Belsimtek or LN did it..:)
  15. SU-25 SM3 operations over Syria with gopro vid: [ame] [/ame]
  16. First of all, the oldest Flanker that could carry the R-77 should be the SM version; I believe that it does not have any substantial reworking, basically should be the same SU-27S we have in DCS with an improved Radar with the ability to employ the R-77. Secondly, many folks are citing the in-game Mig-29S/R-77 combo, yet seems to me that if the 27ER is bugged, the 77 is bugged even more (idk if it has received some tweaks in 1.5, but my impression is that is the same as before). Current missile is severly downgraded in range, to the point that a 27ET would be a better choice (with all its flaws). I recently played the "over the hump" SP campaign and I'm rly unimpressed by the 77 performance
  17. since several months I don't play the Flanker in MP as some of its features are broken - my ideal state was in FC2, both the eagle and flankers missiles seemed more authentic. In SP, I find it rather easy to face amraam armed fighters, nonetheless it remains a funny and challenging practice. I rly hope that with the release of 1.5 the AAM model gets a serious rebuild. As an advice, to successfully fight eagles in SP, I suggest to use the range "advantage" the ER has over the 120, and to try to find a good position from which attack the enemy; head on jousting normally is not a very effective tactic. In case there are wingmen, I'd normally use them as cannon fodder and try to get some advantage from situation they could open up engaging their eagle colleagues. I know it's not very realistic, but right now AI wingmen in DCS seem to be made primarily to die and even if you don't get creative with them, they will anyway end up that way.
  18. I've been reading around several reliable websites that the missiles employed were kh-555, that would be the last version of the AS-15 that entered service around 2008. Some sources have cited the usage of the kh-101 as well, deployed from the TU-160. About the origin of these missions, they depart from bases inside the Russian Federation, from what I get, these assets have been assigned to the operation in Syria to augment the power of the in-theatre forces (I believe that currently it is not possible to send more aircraft to Syria as just a few airbases are operational). Another thing of note, though not directly related to aviation, is that the cruise strikes performed by the black sea fleet in the mediterranean have been launched by an attack submarine
  19. seems an emitter locator pod, like the Phantazmagoria we have in DCS. Pods on wings are ECM almost surely
  20. from the little "hard data" coming from the air ops in Syria, seems that it's also very good at delivering pinpoint strikes on fixed targets, using the KAB-500-SE glonass gb. I watched several vids about the strikes, I can understand that this weapon makes for the largest percentage of guided ordnance employed by the Russians. Although I've also seen ASMs mounted on SU-24s (KH-25ML), I don't believe that their usage has been recorded on videos. Also, it kinda surprises me that the Russians are not employing the laser guided bombs they have at their disposal - could be an indication that most targets they are after are fixed ones. Another thing that seems clear enough, is that no bombs heavier than 500kgs are being used.
  21. hey, nice site. I downloaded both the flags file and the mist examples. I believe I can make something out of this data, although I'm pretty basic when it comes to the mission editor - in fact I was thinking there was a way to read and display the content of flags. As time is basically a "global variable" (as an example, in the scoring window you have very precise time stamps for every event) I'd think there's a way for the mission designer to access it directly. thanx, best rgrds
  22. sorry if it's been asked before, but could not find it on the forum. I'm making a simple mission for the hip (for the huey too, later) to improve the times I spend taking off, transit and land to deploy troops. The idea is very simple, I turn on a flag as soon as I take off, then turn it off on landing in a certain zone. On landing, a message displays the elapsed time. My intention was to measure the time between flag 1 =on and flag 1=off, possibly up to tens of seconds. Basically a stopwatch using the internal clock. If it possible, I'd like to do this without scripting. Also, if there is an even simpler way to accomplish this without using flags, I would prefer it. I'm pretty sure that there must be a simple way, but can't find it in the mission editor. Another thing that is not very clear to me is how to display the content of a "variable" (in this case, the elapsed time), in a "message to all" text. Thanks in advance
  23. I 'm a big fan of the Fullback. Really wish it gets developed as a DCS addon someday. By the way: surfing the web I found the attached image. It shows a military simulator of the SU-34. The tanker being depicted there kinda remembers me the IL-78 Midas we have in DCSW. Could this simulator be made by ED (or some affiliate group) for the Russian Air Force or other militaries? I really wouldn't mind if something like DCS A-10C happened for the -34 as well.. but maybe it's just wishful thinking. Even if the simulator in the pic is a DCS product, could well be that they never release it to the public. As a sidenote, the last DCS newsletter linked to a page in the website with some new 3d models being developed. Featuring among them, several new russian guided bombs that incidentially are employed by the SU-34 (also by the Fencer and other aircraft). What can you say. A simmer can dream sometimes ..
