eventually they 'll fix it. I must say that with 1.5 I'm having a blast just by fooling around with missionettes in the editor. Also, single player campaigns seem to work, I had to restart the hip one because of lost content after update, but so far works fine
-
It happens to me also and I have just a gtx 970 :)... Seriously, running DCS with a single monitor (1900x1200) the 970 works wonder, I'm having 120 fps (playing the hip campaign) but yet again, I'm also capped at 120 because I don't feel more fps are needed. But, I did notice that, upon mission start, VRAM usage is around 3.8 Gigs; on mission end tends to be higher than 5 gigs, and when that happen, fps go back to 60ish. Using mirrors seems to worsen this issue. Also, I apologize in advance for going a little OT but, I'd like to add that the 970 is performing equally well when using 3 or 4 gigs of vram, which makes me believe that all the hype about the card going shambles when using more than 3.5 gigs, last year, really were some commercial bs. It also may be true that systems with DDR4 RAM may perform significantly better that DDR3 ones, when the GPU has to start using system memory (RAM on video cards is DDR5).

Russian missiles - usage, bug, problems, advantages
whitehot replied to tovivan's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
I read somebody asking about the R-27EA - my question would be why they don't add the R-27EM? Should be available in Russian Air force magazines, and 170Kms range could rebalance the current disadvantage with Aim120 a little. There are also the active versions of the R-27, although I believe that Russia hasn't bought them, iirc they have been deployed by China on its SU-27/SU-30 variants; and with 1.5 version China is now present in DCS... -
You should check for the file with the same name inside your DCS world folder \config. If missing, try to look for the other relevant config files: "graphic.cfg" and "graphic.lua" The string you are looking for is "maxfps" Inside this folder, there is also a .txt file explaining how to perform changes to settings manually by altering the config files. @joebloggs - yep, it really looked like capping, yet it's something kinda strange, since I never cap my games fps, so it must be something that DCS installation programs do on their own.. No idea on which basis they do it though.

Edit: Folks, I made it work!! After going through all the config files in DCS folder, I remembered about the "saved games" location.. Went there and inside it there was a line with "maxframes = 45". Changed it to 120 and bam, DCS world running @120fps! Location is : \\user\saved games\DCS\autoexec.cfg. Hope u can fix it too. rgrds
-
Yes, other games are just fine for me too. Could be something buried deep in DCS cfg files, although I went through all of them, altered the params which defined "max fps" (there were two or three in different files, set to 60, I set them to 120). But, in-game fps throughput is still locked at 48. It may not be the case, but 48 is a base-12 number, like 60 - my guess would be that there is some peculiar interaction between the video drivers and the DCS beta that results in an fps lock. @San Patricio - being locked at 60, u may also as well check if v-sync is enabled at some level
-
I'm experiencing a strange phenomenon in game. No matter how I change settings, put them to maximum, minimum, use 100 units or 1 on map, use rockets cluster bombs or missiles, fps are invariably locked at 48. Same goes for changing views, being near cities, forests or airbases - always locked at 48 fps. I have nvidia drivers v 355.98. No vsync, no fps cap anywhere - nvidia control panel all left to default cept Power usage set to "prefer maximum power". Also no streaming from my gpu, no antiviruses nor other progs running Any thoughts? thx, rgrds

In F2 external view, zooming out the hip will cause much of its textures to disappear and go black

glad to hear that

I suspect that you have somehow corrupted your installation. Quickest and safest way to try the open beta is by using the updater. go to this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=147127 scroll down and you 'll find the insturctions on how to do it. I would however, before doing that, repair your current install in order to bring it back to its normal state

cannot reactivate after system change
whitehot replied to whitehot's topic in Payment and Activation
sry to bring this out again, but the program has asked again to activate, and this time I didn't perform any other hardware change (besides plugging in a different joystick). Moreover, the retry button isn't working, again - like I put up another cpu and mobo - on the registration interface. I'm not like I'm running out of activations, but with 4 left for the warthog I feel not at ease at cleaning the keys from the registry again. -
cannot reactivate after system change
whitehot replied to whitehot's topic in Payment and Activation
ok, I used the registry fixes provided in the links, everything working fine now thanks -
Recently, I have installed a new CPU/Mobo/RAM in my rig. I must say that I didn't feel the need to reinstall the OS, and in fact, windows 7 x64 has reacted to the new hardware well, in the end everything works fine after installing the new drivers (beside some trouble with USB ports, particularly with the x52 pro stick, which I'm going to solve later). Anyway, I ran DCS world from my old install, which windows is recognizing properly, and upon launching a mission, as I expected, the licensing window appeared, for every mod I own, stating that a significant hardware change occurred and I needed to reactivate. So I went on to use my serials (I still have activations left for all mods) for every module, like I did in the past when I changed the GPU but.. it says that the activation was accomplished and shows me the number of remaining activation, yet in fact, the window reappears immediately, stating that I need to reactivate. Pressing retry, would again cause it to return that activation has succeeded, but then goes through the loop again. I noticed that the remaining activations number has not decreased, when I pressed reply - in fact the mods were not activated. How do I proceed? thx

IDK abt your other question, but in regards to this, I highly doubt that it will be possible

my money is on the Tiger..

although lately I haven't keep myself up to date with knowledge about the various new SSD forms, I seem to recall that one "problem" in exploiting the full SSD bandwidth is the AHCI interface which operating systems like windows use to access them. I may be wrong, but aren't the M2 SSDs still dependant on that interface, while NVMe has a proprietary one that hasn't got the limitations of AHCI? In that case NVMe should be rather more efficient - although I get that the price/space ratio is still much high..

another "new build" thread..
whitehot replied to whitehot's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yep, investing time is what I was talking about. I have a win7 x64 Ultimate, regularly updated, and intend to keep it until dx12 games start coming out regularly, which is something that, I read, will happen near the end of this year. My installation is still clean and "agile", it boots up in no more than 30 secs since I press the power button, yet I have plenty of games installed, both on steam and not, and going through reinstalling them all, recovering savegames and all is something I would really avoid if possible. In the end I will not reinstall windows unless the new CPU/mobo cause some unrecoverable error to the OS (which I tend to exclude). Even if I am forced to reinstall, I 'll go for the same W7 version I have now. I am still kind of uninterested in W10 (As about 8, didn't even consider it), although dx12 seem to give some nice buff to PC gaming in general, which is something that is always welcome. Moreover, as you said, having a working w7 install would allow to install a w10 version later this year as an upgrade, which would import the users settings and installs in the new OS. It's also a little pity that our favorite sim is on the verge of being released with a shiny new dx11 engine when dx12 are about to hit consistently all about.. But I think we'll live with that :).. Anyway, thanks folks for your replies, u helped me to decide myself on how to put up this new install -
Hey.. I'm in the process of putting up a new rig that, I hope, will be performing much better, especially in flight sims. Since I am kinda versed in overclocking and do that for all the cpu's I got (It's a very nice feeling when you see a good fps improvement in games like DCS, after putting hours in overclocking and related research), I went ahead and decided to base my build around a CPU with a good potential in that area. So I finally bought me a new Skylake i7 6700K CPU and a MSI M5 board. I still have to procure me the RAM but will do that in a couple of weeks (I'm still undecided between Corsair Vengeance and GSkill Ripjaws, but I already know that I 'd want it to be at least 3000 Mhz in speed and CAS-15). Now, I know that when changing the base components in a PC one oughta reinstall the operating system from scratch. Nonetheless, I would like to at least try to keep my OS installation, just reinstalling software that would eventually not work anymore. My question is, will I get problems with DCS world by doing that? I understand that I would need to register the modules again, but that shouldn't present too much trouble. I don't believe that aside from registration issues the sim will not function correctly, yet I was wondering if anybody here has already tried to perform this operation, and what kind of trouble he/she did encounter, if any. Thanks, good simming all!

jeez. Without considering that DCS is a combat simulator while the other sims mentioned are "only" flight sims, and without considering that the "maps" (actually the map, at present) in DCS have to take account of the destructive effect of ordnance: without considering anything else but the fidelity of the flight dynamics, the phisics: DCS World beats the other sims by a huge margin. Since ED made the Ka-50 and the A-10C, I feel that FSX/P3D and Xplane are like older generation sims. imho ofc. So, yes, you can't compare DCS to the mentioned titles. Yet, If somebody would make a successor to FSX, with a dynamics engine equivalent to DCS, that would be by far the most stupendous civilian flight sim ever made. Whoever flew helicopters in FSX for more than a couple minutes and then tried out the Black Shark, the Huey and the Hip in DCS knows what Im talkin about

Although I agree with you, I also must admit that the OP has some kind of point - it's been several months since we had an update (without considering the magnitude of it). Since many modules are early access / beta versions, one wouldn't despise some advancement, once in a while. I know, I know, "Until DCS 2.0/1.5 is out there ain't gonna be nothing new" , yet imho it's becoming a very long stretch of an argument. After all, I don't think that the new engine is gonna revolutionize the simulator dynamics to the point that all the work done on the existing modules will be totally useless - in which case they would have to rewrite all the aircraft from scrap. Since we know that it's not the case, then one doesn't get what keeps the devs to upgrade some of the mods - I ain't saying like "before the 2.0 announcement", but at least to a degree in which users who invested in said mods have some kind of reassurement that the "work in progress" is still in progress. Not at all I intend to rant or whine - just saying that sometimes the stillness around DCS World almost makes me worry about the future of this simulator. As I said in another post, I rly hope that what is slowing development, at all levels, is just something technical and that our favorite sim progress isn't suffering from other angles, in particular the complex geopolitical situation spurred by the events in Crimea and Ukraine. Anyway, we have a sort of release date for the 1.5 version, so let's keep our finger crossed that this time it will finally get to us users; so that also the mods developers would get to update their works again.
-
If memory doesn't fail me, I remember that DCS A-10C was made a consumer product out of a contract ED has had with the USAF, although it was said that the "civilian" version of the sim had some feature left out. I also remember seeing a vid in which a DCS sim was used by russian aviators - from what I could get, it was a version of the Hip, in fact it seemed a Mi-14 Haze to me, the navy variant, but could be wrong. One thing that it could be worrying to me is the current bad relationship between west and Russia. I 'm under the impression that western armed forces would not award contracts anymore to a russian based developer to make their simulators, both for economic reasons (don't know if the sanctions cover this aspect, yet I read around that it may well be the case) but also technological, with westerners much less keen on divulging technical specifics and informations about their aircraft. With less military contracts from western countries, I feel that the "output" of products to us civilians users may well be reduced..

Thanks mate. I think I'll go with loading the controls from inside the program. Anyway, the important thing here is that having the old configs saved, one can import them somehow
-
These days I ran into the tedious process of restoring my DCS installation, after I made some changes in my rig. I had to reinstall windows - but - I could save all my old DCS data to an usb drive. Since DCS is installed on my "secondary" SSD, it was unscathed by the os reinstallation, I just re-activated all the modules and managed to start the simulator all-right. But then, I needed to get back my controls config, over which I had spent hours of trial and error and fine tuning, which I don't want to repeat. So after doing my homework on the forums, I went to my old DCS data folder (the one found under "mydocs\saved games\DCS" , happy that my configs were all there. Copied them to my new "saved games" dir under my new windows install, confirmed all the overwriting and confidently launched DCS. Fired up a kamov quick mission, just to test everything was a-ok.. But, no. Controls weren't the ones I imported at all. So I went over the dir where they are saved, to have a bad surprise: From what I get: - a config file in lua format is saved for each controller that has been plugged into the game. - The .lua filename is formed with the name of the controller (like "Saitek x-52 pro") AND a very long alphanumeric string, which I surmise is an ID coming from the windows user. in my case, here's an example: Saitek X52 Pro Flight Control System {7D313EA0-E9B1-11e4-8001-XXXXXXXXXXX}.diff.lua Copying the configs from the old DCS folder has just caused the new config/input folders to have two of the aforementioned files for every controller, one made with the old user string, one with the new one - Yet DCS does not read the old one - but the new one which I don't need. At this point I'm wondering what can I do to restore my old controls: Since I don't believe that deleting the "new" files, those made with the current user id would solve anything, my question is, can I go ahead, add the old config files and then rename them using the new user string? It's gonna be tedious, but at least would work imho. Also, if somebody experienced this situation and has a quicker method, can u please share it with me? Thanks
