Quite a good discussion this. But people seem to have different ideas in mind when they post, so the answer isn't so clear. People have been talking about FC2, real life, single player, multiplayer co-op and multiplayer vs. modes. I would imagine the A10 is a far more surviviable than the shark for the simple reason that it has a great rate in the real world with such a high number of flights. But as people have said, you're comparing different concepts. They fill different roles. So the A10 wins, but I prefer to fly the KA-50.

Welcome to the world of DCS Strut.

Drop throttle with page down twice, shutoff both fuel valves (the big red ones on the left), power off batteries and you should be good. You can also shut off fuel pumps and stuff on the right while you're waiting for the repairs to be done. Just open the door to talk to crew for refuel and rearm too.

Inclement weather beating the crap out of my comp
Slazi replied to ShuRugal's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
If you get the chance to upgrade sometime down the road, don't get a laptop for gaming. The top end ones can do it, but its far more sensible to buy a desktop if you have the space. I live in Tokyo, and I could still fit 2 desktops into my tiny apartment, although my wife wasn't so happy about it. $1400 will build you a really nice gaming PC. -
I wouldn't mind showing you the basics. Add me on steam - Slazia

I always turn off auto hover off if I expect return fire, you need to be able to quickly relocate. Same applies to altitute hold. I'm not sure how others do it. As for locking targets, I've always used boxes slightly smaller than my target, and never really have trouble getting locks.

Strange that you're having trouble using TrackIR to zoom, even at full zoom I have no problem looking around carefully for things. Consider reducing your TrackIR sensitivity? Setting it up correctly is actually very very important. You might also consider setting up track with a different profile for a zoomed view? I think that might be possible.

Think that's pretty normal, as far as I know is does no damage. I wouldnt worry about it.

Grats! It's a good feeling. Get some practice in and get onto mulitplayer soon, it's a great way to enjoy the game.

to hell with this - Aireal combat is outrageous
Slazi replied to ShuRugal's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
It's difficult, you just need practice. You really do need TrackIR or Freetrack to get the most out of the game. A resonable stick is essential too. Take a break and come back to it another time. -
Black Shark 2: Are the Tutorials In Program?
Slazi replied to ErichVon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hey, I'm having a little trouble understanding your question. But I think you want to upgrade to 2 on the new machine. Just install BS 1 on the new machine, then pay for the upgrade and install it. As for tutorials, there are none I'm aware of. If you must, take a look at the BS 1 tutorials before jumping onto 2. The game is pretty much the same apart from all the enhancements. If you can run the game maxed I'll be impressed. My computer is pretty fast, but maxing out draw distance and all the other graphical options would probably give it an unplayable frame rate. -
Get onto the multiplayer servers once you have a bit of experience, they will all have dead starts. I love getting ready to take off, just a shame i have to do it so much!

Using a joystick as a mouse is a basic fuction? I don't know of any games where I can do that. If you wait a bit, I'm sure someone will be able to help you with most of your comments. The game is worth it, so don't give up.

The X52 sounds like the most likely candidate so far. Thank you for all your feedback! I recently built a new i2700, an SSD drive did wonders for Black Shark II.

No pedals, I sit on the floor while gaming, so it's not really possible. I have a generic saitek stick right now, a $30 dollar thing. It's not too bad actually, but it doesn't really have enough buttons for the shark. Twisting for rudder is fine for me tbh. The WH is always going to be too expensive I think. I don't want to imagine the trouble I would have sending it back if there were any problems with it either. A few suggestions already on this thread for me to look into.

I'm thinking about a new stick for BS2. I've thought about the TH Warthog, but.. it costs a fortune. $585 in Japan right now.. Not really feasable. I mainly play BS2, but I might also wanna get into some other games eventually. I sometimes play Arma II and fly helos there too. Any suggestions for a good low / mid price range stick? I guess I also need a seperate throttle control. I wish some company would come out with a BS2 stick.

Playing BS 2, I'm getting the same problem I used to get in BS 1. I try a mission, fail the first time. I kinda suck. So, watch the replay, and take over when I do the stupid thing that causes me to fail. Sometimes it lets me continue to the next mission, sometimes it doesn't. Am I missing something? It would be nice to have a clear screen at the end of the mission saying - Mission complete - Accept result and return to main menu. or Mission Failed... Am I the only one? - I posted this in the multiplayer forum at first by mistake, so asked for a move. 3 or so days later, no move. So, reposted. Hope that doesn't qualify as spamming!

Get some friends to play with! I love Black Shark II, and actually, I'd be interested in a few more people to play with too. <Steam name Slazia

BS2 upgrade is compatible with Steam. I say go for it! BS2 is a great game, I've never tried A10, I love rotors!

Letter to Eagle Dynamics regarding BS2
Slazi replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hope it works out for you man. If not, consider a gaming PC to get the most out of it. You can build a well spec'd pc for around a grand US these days. -
Uninstall BS1, delete the folder and then reinstall BS1. Follow that by installing BS2. I would imagine that would work. - I'm only speculating here.

where are the REAL pilots of dcs black shark?
Slazi replied to Bee_Sting's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Try to arrange to play with a friend instead of jumping on a random server and hoping you end up with a good group of people. Join the steam group, or ask around on the forums. You'll have much better luck that way. -
The New Flight Manual--Coax Propaganda, Maybe?
Slazi replied to Smokin Hole's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Nice post. So I take it there's a new manual out for me to read? To be honest, this sounds a lot like the previous manual for BS I. -
Wanna add my thanks. Actually, this is probably better than another release in my eyes, I'm not so interested in flying planes. Just installing now, but won't get the chance to play for a few days. Thanks again!
