DCS 1.2.7 Open Beta - Preliminary Changelog
Slazi replied to Mike Busutil's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Oh, that sounds interesting! Good to hear we've got some Mi-8 stuff to look forward to. -
I've never had any trouble rearming my Mi8. I've done it quite a lot, too. Is there a bug with this? I know refueling doesnt work. But I've never run out.
-
Any news on when we're likely to see the next update for the mi8? I'm eagerly awaiting fixes for the entire crew dying so easily.
-
Another nasty FPS related issue is comes from the multiplayer scoreboard. If you bring that up, your fps fluctuates all over.
-
I'm interested in how people are flying the two. ---- Mi-8 When in the Mi-8, it seems better to attack from range. Keep a distance of at least 500m from infantry targets. Ideally over a km for anything with any real firepower. The large size, higher speeds, and slower turning seems to get it killed way to quickly up close. Any hits to the cockpit are extremely dangerous as they tend to kill all onboard. Rocket attacks work well from a range of 1-2km. Launch a ton of them and go back to get more. Sure, a lot are wasted. But returning for more in an undamaged aircraft is worth it. The 30mm grenade launcher seems basically useless. You are much better off with rockets against infantry. The grenades just seem to act like slow bullets with no real area effect. So basically, its good for range combat. It is obviously also a much better transport helo. ---- Huey The huey on the other hand, seems able to fly right in the middle of everything. Its smaller size means it gets hit far less. It carries a ton of ammo for its miniguns. Perfect for killing infantry. It has trouble with larger targets due to the lack of heavier weapons. Can transport small small teams. ---- What other differences am I missing between the two?

5.45mm ak fire killed all three of us last night.

It's good information, and connects to having the rudder chained. But if the rudder is unchained, it doesn't work like that.
-
I think the crew are so used to work together, they have become quantum entangled. When one dies, they all die.
-
I got a new set of pedals recently, and I am wondering how the unchained rudder should work. With the center ap channel on, the rudder pedals work I would imagine them to. However, switching on the left channel, yaw, the AP tends to lock the rudder pedals into different postions. I've noticed that moving the stick and re-trimming will change where the ap locks the rudder pedals. Switching off the yaw channel never releases the pedals. So if they are 75% left, I cannot properly counteract the forces from the main blades.
-
Any situation in not all of the crew dying would be interesting, for sure.
-
Ideally for all rockets. It'd affect pretty much everything in DCS (for the better).
-
Anyone not had all three crew die at the same time?
-
Not so popular then :(
-
I'd love to have the backblast effect from 10:15 in this video in game for all similar rocket systems.
-
Great! Thanks for the advice everyone! Got this up and runnning in my mission. I set up different pickup points for the vehicles. 18 man groups for the Mi-8. 8 man groups for unarmed Hueys and 4 for the armed one. I have to trust the pilots to pick up the right groups. I wish the script allowed you to split groups etc depending on cargo size, but I guess the official version should deal with that later. Thanks again.
-
What should I be selecting to drop what in that case 26?
-
From the looks of the thread the latest patch breaks this. I'll give it some time before I look at implementing any kind of troop drop. Is there any chance this will be officially supported at some point? I don't really want to have to mess around with scripts that get broken with new patches.
-
Thanks, I had a look at the link, but no real time to work on it yet. I'll update when I've had some time to implement it in my mission!
-
Sorry I don't have a chance to read all the posts in here, but can anyone recommend a way to set up troop drops in game? I want to be able to drop new squads of soldiers, and possibly move existing units too. Are there any vehicles the mi8 could fit inside, or is it too small? Can anyone give me some recommendations? I'm looking for something that's easy to implement and easy for players to use.

I've actually managed to drop a pod recently! I think it was a loadout of 6x20 missiles - but I don't remember which missile type (if that has any effect). I was really happy when I saw it finally working. It definitely seems to fail for a lot of my loadouts. I think I need more testing.
-
Cool cool! I've never actually managed to drop anything yet, so quite looking forward to it.
-
I still havent got this working. I press the release and my information vanishes, but my pods are all still attached.. Anyone else?

A little question about the Rudder Trimmer...
Slazi replied to Skulleader's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I use it because I don't have pedals. There's no way I'm twisting a stick for an hour straight :)
