Thanks for the update, Kuky. The reason I didn't post in other threads is due to the wide selection of causes people were describing. Can we get a sticky on this issue with the latest advice at the begining? I don't think users should have to crawl through pages and pages of comments and suggestions to try and make the game more playable.

I'm having issues with smoke and explosions in the game. Generally I run around 60fps. However a massive rocket volley or cluster bomb can bring me down to 2fps at times. Flying close to the ground in a helo can also drop me to around half my usual fps. What is the latest advice for people suffering these problems? I have noticed a ton of threads on fps death, but I'm not sure which advice is still relevent.

Really impressed with the quality of this 3rd party release. The team should be very proud of themselves. If other 3rd party developers can maintain this level of quality DCS has a bright future ahead of it.

Downloading. First time to download a torrent for a few years. I'll try and seed it too if I can figure that out.

As much as I'd like to take credit, I think the knowledge comes from floating around the forums, but glad I could be of help!

Could be strong crosswind? I guess posting a track would get you the best response.

Actually, I just started playing around with the random mission generator today. I reckon this may end up being a lot more fun for quick missions than the instant action. I flew for 5 minutes then managed to kill a cobra with a Vikhr at around 4km. Very nice.
-
Anyone else finding themselves playing this mission a lot? When I have 20 minutes and fancy a quick fix of destruction, I put on my track IR, plug in my joystick and rock away. I must have played this mission over 50 times!

You expect a game from 2008 to be supported and upgraded five years later for cheaper? It's a resonable price. You could always wait for a sale or wait for the price to drop if you can't afford it.

Seems so!

Would be nice. My frame rate is getting killed when I go near the ground.

I love playing Arma and its related mods far more than TOH. I am really interested to trying playing with the sensitivity, I think that could well be part of whats stopping me playing. ACE with ACRE is an amazing experience.

I think I know what the problem is. It's the trim. In BS2 the helicopter tries to revert to the trim attitude, the body seems to have weight. In ToH stick seems to igore movement back towards the center. If you steer left, center the stick, then steer the same amount left again it will be double the power of the original movement. Does that make sense? Its as if the stick in the helicopter can only be increased by moving the joystick away from the center. This is from memory, but thats what it feels like. - It's also very difficult to see any of the instruments, and with no artificial horizon (and no feelings of gravity) its almost impossible to imagine how your helo is positioned in the air.
-
Can't wait for another helicopter to fly in the DCS world. I'm glad I'm not the only one who seems to have had problems with ToH. I may have another go at it and see if dampening all the controls makes it playable, but I'm not holding out much hope.

So I have quite a number of hours in the black shark now, I absolutely love it! Flying it seems to make sense. I bought ToH ages ago, and keep trying to enjoy it. But I just find it so frustrating! Every slight touch of my stick seems to send the helicopter crazy! The trim system is really strange. I can't even maintain level flight without using autohover. When I fly the test missions I end up spinning around in circles unable to control the helicopter after the slightest change in throttle. Why is this game so much harder to fly than BS2!!!!! Seriously, BS2 being so great has ruined so many other games for me!
-
I also find it quite hard to trim myself level, I try to use the Russian style of hitting the trimmer a lot. I'm using non-ffb, so I have to let go of the stick a lot. My joystick sometimes freaks out too and decides that it wants to steer hard left. I always leave the joystick box up, and, if it happens I disconnect and reconnect my stick.

Using standalone versions after upgrading DCS World 1.2.1.
Slazi replied to Ferenc's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Interesting problem. Do you still need the standalone versions? -
The new review of DCS World - yoyosims.pl
Slazi replied to YoYo's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
It scored 4.75 / 5 so I can't see how it's a negative review :) -
Make sure you use the eye-zoom in game, don't stick with the default zoom level.
-
Shouldn't take long, I think support is usually pretty good.
-
I could enjoy the sim on a pretty cheap joystick with seperate throttle controls, although upgrading to the X52 pro made a big difference. TrackIR or alternative is strongly recommended too.

You can join missions at any time which is a nice advantage. Right now the servers are quite quiet (probably one of the worst times to play). There are about 9 servers up, 7 of which are passworded. To be honest, if you're looking for massive public games, this isn't the game. But if you're looking for the best sims available, then you're in luck. If you want, I could always add you on steam (assuming you use steam).

See what the doom guy has to say here. Give it a couple of years and I'd imagine this will be pretty common place.
-
I found the spotlight great. At closer ranges it makes enemies easy to see. That combined with the fixed cannon worked pretty well for me.
-
I never really have a problem finding a BS2 server to join, I usally just fly with the A10 guys if there are no other sharks around. Most multiplayer servers have TS, and it's pretty easy to jump in and find people to fly with.
