Just curious, while i wait for my dk2 i decided to run dcs on stereo mode with my 1080p display to see the potential impact of fps as compared to normal 1080p. It is significant. I see about 20 fps drop. I really hope EDGE helps improve fps, if not I may have to upgrade my 680 GTX :-/

Yet Another OpenSource USB Controller

fantastic work! Any thoughts on supporting teensy 3.1? -
There's definitely things to still need to be addressed. Before I begin, let me just say that this is the best heli sim out there hands down. These are things that if fixed would make it even better! hopefully we finally get a fix to the throttle behavior for spool up. There is currently no proportionality, almost like on, off switch. It's a bug that is known and reported but hasn't been addressed yet. There is no engine damage due to overtemp. I can do as many pulls at full collective as I want, come back to hover and my EGT temps are at the same place as before. In reality you would be degrading the engine and you would have less and less power available due to over temping. Basically the "engine resource" bar that you can adjust in the mission editor for engine health should degrade with engine abuse. You can also overtorque the gearbox with no consequence. I've set temperatures below freezing to maximize engine power and pulled hard past the torque limit over and over and over again with no consequence. The gearbox should fail or the internal friction of the gearbox should increase with abuse and the chip light should go off after certain abuse. No consequence for rotor overspeed. I've loaded the aircraft is heavy as possible, lowered collective so that the rotorspeed would be past the red, got to VNE and the pulled back to overspeed even more. The rotor does not fail due to overspeed abuse. I've checked the same with the mi-8 for above items with the exception of the throttle proportionality issue with same results.

Not sure if this is the correct place for this, if not i appologize. Is it just me or when clicking on a picture to maximize that someone posted does it have issues loading? Seems to stay on black screen until you cycle to the next one and back. Both my iphone using it's onboard safari and my pc using internet explorer have the same issue.

One thing that I can't get over is the fact that they didn't mold the engine nacelles to the wing. Theres this little crevice that the air can squeeze through. Interference drag. Maybe it's there on purpose?

Great! Just a recommendation, it would be great to have those charts in the dcs flightmanual. Also it would be very useful to have them in the kneeboard as well. What is the difference betweem the mtv1 and mtv2?

I was curious if anyone has performance charts for the Mi-8MTV2. The closest thing I found was the Mi-171 flight manual. http://www.anythingaboutaviation.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Mil-Mi-171-Flight-Manual-Book-1.Stamped.pdf I'd like to know maximum weight the aircraft can carry for in ground effect and out of ground effect so that I can plan my missions accordingly based on temperature and altitude. I noticed one of the campaign missions requires you to make a decision on whether you will take more troops with you or not and I felt that I did not have the info I needed to make the proper decision. I need my flight manual charts! I was not sure if the Mi-171 is comparable to the Mi-8MTV2 in terms of powerplant and rotor. I know the Mi-171 is a modernized Mi-8 but I don't know what the Mi-8MTV2 is. Figure 3.1.1 described out of ground effect maximum takeoff weight. Figure 3.1.3 describes in ground effect maximum takeoff weight.

I wouldnt mind donating a little money to allow ED to have a booth at E3 for next year. What do you guys think about an DCS 2015 E3 fund? :pilotfly: Just a thought. Do you think its worth DCS having a booth at E3? or do you think the audience is not going to have interest regardless?
-
Yeah that's definitely true. I'm sure you can get creative with 600 sq ft although I'll stop ratting since I'm sure ED has their reasons for their setup at E3. It was just some constructive criticism to help foster some thoughts to promote DCS to the masses :music_whistling: All in good spirit...

Another good one is FSX Dodosim Bell 206. They have modeled most of the heli dynamic effects including settling with power, torque induced yaw, transverse flow effect, retreating blade stall, loss of tail rotor effectiveness and much more. It looks like they are working on the uh-1 but may have lost interest since Belsimtek beat them to the punch. Still a great flying heli. System modeling is well done as well. http://www.dodosim.com/fsx206dynamics.html Hover control has a great collection of helis for FSX as well, probably not as good physics though as the dodosim. But nice looking and okay systems modeling. http://www.hovercontrol.com/ Nemeth designs also makes some great FSX helis http://www.nemethdesigns.com/

Mike! Any news regarding this sim? I hope it' still in the works!! I'm sure there's a bunch of us here that are more excited about this than the other space "sims" in development =) Including myself.
-
haha. Okay Okay. You know what I mean though. It's a show so it's all about getting interest! Funny I was just thinking about the videos you put together Amraam! They should have a few large displays showing your videos as promos and maybe find a few guys on here that are willing to ship their systems, cockpit setups, and themselves to E3. Flim! we should have some your awesome Aces II setups there. Imagine an A-10 setup, a huey setup, and an F-15 setup at the booth with 3 guys in multiplayer running oculus! We could even have a couple hardcore sim squadron guys to head out there and actually show how the game should be played. It would intrigue the audience for sure. It would have a huge crowd! The press and crowd could then see how effectively the 6 DOF system works in DCS in combination with a complex combat environment.

how are you going to go about with flight model tuning? Do you have access to former skyhawk pilots . Is there performance and handling qualities flight test data available for model correlation? :)
-
what temperature are you assuming and is that y axis pressure altitude or density altitude?
-
I'm a bit bummed out by their setup. An old sidewinder? really? This is E3!! I would let them borrow my center mounted warthog and saitek pedals! Wish they would have put more emphasis on good hardware and presentation :(.
-
I'm so happy this is going to happen! Ive heard so many good things about the a-4. Great choice!
-
Ding Ding Ding! Correct. With hydraulic systems on big aircraft (most of the time) you can't drive the controls unless you have hydraulic pressure. Most helicopters have gearbox mounted hydraulic pumps, therefore they only get hydraulic pressure when the rotor is turning. Some aircraft have electric and APU driven hydraulic pumps although Russian aircraft tend to use the APU purely as a means to air start the engines, not to use as auxiliary power for electric / hydraulics. I did notice though that when the aircraft is spooled up and you apply pedal inputs you do not see the tail rotor pitch mechanism moving or the tail rotor blades changing blade angle. You do see this in the huey. This is definitely something that has not been implemented yet.
-
agreed. I think the winch was more for sea, jungle, and mountain rescues. Environment where the aircraft did not have a place to land.
-
Thanks for the interest. Hopefully 1.2.9?! It looks like the behavior is correct with the Mi-8 hopefully it's a similar implementation for the UH-1H?
-
+1 on this. Tail drive failure and tail pitch control failure (control cable breaks) would be great too.
-
Once the external load function has been tested and tweaked for DCS I was curious if the next progression would be to add the hoist and winch up and down function so that we can perform combat search and rescue missions with the mi-8 =)
-
Looks like I figured it out. I'll share if anyone is interested.

This is the simple task im trying to do. I have a unit that I want to turn on a flag if he stays in a zone for 30 seconds. If he leaves outside of the zone before 30 seconds then he doesn't get credit. He has to go back into the zone and the timer starts again. Once he stays inside without interruption for 30 seconds the trigger raises a flag. It's kinda like command and control logic. You have to hold a zone without leaving for x amount of time. I cannot figure out how to do this. There is a time since flag function but it doesn't reset if you leave the zone. Any help is appreciated.

Is anyone having issues with performance degradation little by little when hosting a game? I notice this consistently. I start with 80 fps and with about an hour of playing the fps is down to less than 10. This only happens when I host a game.

This is something that I think does not require a ton of rework and will add lots of improvement on playability to DCSWorld. Notice that many of the single player campaigns in DCSWorld have you flying with a AI wingman. It would be pretty straightforward by modifying the existing campaign missions and adding another client in place of your wingman. Ideally adding a feature in the editor that allows the wingman to be "playable". Would allow you to take over the AI wingman if you joined the server. This is a feature that is very useful in games like ARMA. For example I've taken the KA-50 deployment campaign and modified it so that the wingman is a client and had a great time playing the whole campaign with a buddy of mine. Adds so much immersion when playing a campaign in multiplayer. If Eagle Dynamics were to integrate this in a better form it would be fantastic since many people that play DCS World have a group of friends that they play with and realistically they would enjoy a coop campaign immensely. What say you now? Also the "playable" feature would work well in keeping missions balanced by keeping the forces that aren't occupied by players as AI rather than not being there at all.
