What does 'clipping mean in modman?
bogusheadbox replied to Skwurl's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I gues that makes it 57 Views. But sorry mate. Don't really know. I think Clipping is a graphical error where sections don't quite meet up and you get some anomolies around the join. But i could be horribly wrong. I have not dowloaded this yet. Game seems to run fine on just stock 1.12a -
Don't bash the 25 - Nothing better than going into a fight with one arm tied behind your back. Its the stuff real men are made off. ;-) EDIT - Just watched the movie. Blilliant footage. Great soundtrack. Well done. I am keeping that one. Thanks. Its amazing. She's an old workhorse.

I would only make one small comment. I would change "Altitude Indicator" to "Attitude Indicator". As an example. If you are in a dive but the enemy is same level. The sensor will read it as the enemy above you, and vice versa. If you are both at the same level and the threat is at your 9 o'clock. If you are doing a right hand turn the threat will be produced as lower and vice versa. The indicator gives a rough threat position in relation to your aircraft attitude.

Shhhh Don't tell him that. *** You friendly neighbourhood Su-25 pilot. ***

The Ka-50 Black Shark thread
bogusheadbox replied to Force_Feedback's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I don't think i agree with you there sorry. Whilst flying through a city, in between buildings at 10 feet AGL whilst rotating 90 degrees to turn in the next street at high speed. Do that at 14 fps and you are in for a spot of bother. -
I have them all on. But on night missions the bright lights can take away your "nightvision". You can change the brightness of the lights in order to have them all on if you wish.

controlling the BS with a hotas or collective & cyclic
bogusheadbox replied to G3's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Dang thats a nice pit !!!! OK for the original question. Here goes. in its most basic. The cyclic controls the rotational pitch of the blades. Think of a disc. Push collective forward and its like pushing on the furthest point on the disc in line with your sight, offsetting the disc around the centre axis. Clclic to the left and push on the disc edge at 270 degrees. The collective is used to increase main rotor pitch simultaneously at all points of the rotor blade rotation. It increases or decreases total rotor thrust. To accomodate this, the eingine usually is managed to stay at a constant rpm. When you increase pitch (pulling on collective) the AoA of the blades increases producing more thrust. This also creates more drag and the motor must increase in power to compensate for the drag. Helicopters are limited in altitude due to air thinning at high alts. What happens is that the helo blades reach a maximum AoA trying to "bite" more air to achieve desired lift. But as the air density decreases, so does the resistance. And you will find that your engine will start to over rev. -
How many people here fly the Su25t?
bogusheadbox replied to Mizzy's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I only really fly the SU-25. The others in handling on take off and landing seem too arcadish for me. As others have said. The more difficult the challenge, the better the rewards of accomplishment after you return home. However, one thing that does annoy me when i fly the 25 is...... Fighter pilots ! 25, needs slow taxiing, needs a hell of a lot of runway. So i would say that most 25's adhere to the correct taxiing porceedures and use the correct runway. I lost 2 aircraft before taking off due to having to make emergency manouvers on taxiing or take off. I even had one guy scoot onto the runway ingress half way down. Didn't look right or left then turned into me facing the wrong way as i was on take off passing 180 klms / hour. I swerved, i crashed, he took off and had fun. On the third attempt in a row trying to take off, i was cut up on the taxiway by another fighter jock who decided he could out accelerate me from the spawn apron to the taxiway. It was when he reached the taxiway and turned towards me that i swerved an blew a tyre. I must admit. I cracked the sh1ts at the point. Firewalled the throttle and tried (as best i could with blown tyre) to line him up and put a host of gun into his behind. Too bad i couldn't launch a heat seeker at him. (i would have if i could have). But alas. The 25 was too unweildy at speed with no tyres. So i ground looped and ripped off a gear. I turned off after that. That day. It wasn't the aircraft that gave me problems. (Rant over).:helpsmilie: -

How do I find the homebase?
bogusheadbox replied to Gaizokubanou's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I understand what you are saying Cali. But i disagree. I interpreted the post as a wrist slap. And if i interpreted it that way, i am sure others could as well. I did say in my post that what Disso said is correct. But please remember that you and I both know where the manual and training section is. We also both know that some of the training modules since 1.12a patch no longer work as intended. One for instance sees my plane careering into a mountain while the tutorail continues in written dialogue. Therefore its no wonder that some new to the game have trepidations towards certain areas. And to be frank, more concise answers can be found online in message boards much more readily than trolling through the manual and training sequences. The simming community is a small fraternity. Our genre suffers from the relatively small sales compared to other gaming genre's due to smaller budgets and monetary constraints. So my point is. Instead of being stern / abrupt / rude / obnoxious (choose which is applicaple). Why not try to encourage new members to our area of enjoyment with helpful and friendly comments instead of the sterile and cold "Well you haven't read the manua thenl" responses that typically scares many newbies away. Heck, its not as if there is a small learning curve to begin with. Adding to the frustration by dissuading a newcommer to asking questions will only make them more prone to give up on the title. In the end that will hurt us directly as a player. Give new guys a break. Be friendly, helpful and polite. That is all I ask. Not a lot is it ? Just remember you were a noob too once. -
How do I find the homebase?
bogusheadbox replied to Gaizokubanou's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
But for better help than the wrist slap of a response above. Pressing 1 will put you into "enroute" mode. That will show you on the hud and instruments the direction to the nearest waypoint. You can cycle through these way point (if there are more than one) by pressing the "tilde" key. Pressing 1 again will put you onto "return mode" This will guide you back to the selected base approach way point. You can cycle through bases by pressing the "Tilde" key. Pressing 1 again will put you onto "Landing Mode". This will usually self select from "return mode" once you have hit the waypoint from "return mode" But you can select it yourself if you want a different approach. "Landing mode" will activate ILS and guide you up on the glide slope. The previous poster is correct in that the tutorials do explain it adequately. And i would defeintley visit them to get more experience in using the nav point systems. However the tone of the previous poster came over as eletish and condescending. You question is valid and his response should have been more accomodating. Happy flying -
Nitendo !!! I take offense ;)

what method to align on a convoy? "Help"
bogusheadbox replied to vassel's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
depends on the situation and the load outs available to you and the enemy you are encountering. But rule of thumb is 1. to never stay in the area and make multiple passes, 2. Scout area before entering for validity of target and possible target defenses. 3. Asses for high or low alt run. do you need to stand off or can you ingress the target area? 4. Never ever ever under any circumstances engage yourself for multiple runs on a single target unless absolutely deemed necessary (same as rule 1) Personally. If you are attacking a column in a valley and they have no air defense. Then the best situation is a bombing run with Cluster bombs or multiple munition dispecers with a timed delay on drop. That way you can make one pass, drop all munitions, and cover a large impact area at the single press of a button. Cluster bombs and multiple munition dispencers work wonders for this and are great for taking out columned or closely packed group of targets. One thing you really don't want to do is bleed of too much speed. You want to drop to first stage flaps as that gives you the best manouverability while allowing you to keep a relatviely high speed. (Do not go to landing flaps)The name of the game for the SU25 is to get in there, pound it and get the hell out. You are not a fighter, nor is your plane highly manouverable at low speed. Therefore if you slow down to ensure you make a good hit, you will do the following. 1. Make yourself an easy target for all ground targets. 2. Reduces your ability to bug out and avoid danger if you are hit on attack run due to less energy. 3. Gives you less ability to engage manouvers when that sneaky enemy has launched a day wrecker up your behind. It is better to dump your ordinance and partially take out the target enabling you to return to base, re-arm and re-engage. Than to spend time bobbing about a target area trying to line up a perfect shot for points only to have to eject after your 2nd or 3rd run. But with practice, practice and more practice, you will be able to increase the speed that you attack an enemy and disengage with a greater kill effiency. -

Questions about the pinke+mode function
bogusheadbox replied to SuperKungFu's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yep you have to keep pinky depressed in order to activate the mode + pinky As for your second question. I am not sure that is possible. You can make your X-52 do Macro's or a series of clicks. E.g. "comms button" then "control tower" then "request for take off" in order to get take off clearance at the push of a button. But lock on seems to dislike multiple and simultaneous keypresses where those keys are mapped to different actions. But you could give it a go to see how it works. All you need to do is assign the second button (for this example to SPACE). Then when programming in the SST software click on the button space where you wish to assign your keystrokes. Then whilst holding shift down, click on the space bar. You should end up with a config that looks like this SHIFT+SPACE. That will mean, whenever you press that button you will get the same features of pressing the SHIFT key and SPACE key simultaneously. Like i said, i think lomac has difficulty in this area, but nothing is stopping you from trying it out. But with the option of 6 different modes, are you sure you need more ... Fwoooaar. -
PR / inertia missiles?
bogusheadbox replied to bogusheadbox's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks guys. I think i know what was throwing me. I had the pod attached. However i thought the pod was constantly on and didn't need activating as the diamonds come up when in ground attack mode without pressing I. So i will give the activation "I" a go and see how it works. -
Over the weekend i was trying to use the 70klm range PR (passive radar?) inertia missile. But for the life of me, i just couldn't get it to lanch. I had the pod attached which gave me a slecetion of targets. I though it may have a height limit before release. I tried locking target with TV. Tried Lasing. But yet, couldn't unleash the fury of the behemoth under my wings. Any help appreciated.

2x nvidia or 1x ATI ??
bogusheadbox replied to zaGURUinzaSKY's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Unless you have to upgrade now. Stick the money in the bank. Add a whole lot more to it. And save for the even bigger upgrade when DX10 stuff hits the shelves. Otherwise you will just have to upgrade again if you want the dx10 candy Not to mention the new processors that will be out by then. -
ahhh fantastic. now, why wouldn't they stick the two indication lights together. lol

If i understand this correctly. Lock on gold includes Lock on and Flaming cliffs. If this is so, From where in the UK can i purchase a copy of Lock on GOLD? Unfortunatley i cannot find any distributors. Lock on is quite cheap, however RC simulations has a humoungous price on Flaming Cliffs GBP £ 29.95. Compared to Flaming cliff prices and Lock on gold prices in the US where lock on gold goes for the same price in USD as Flaming cliffs alone does in GBP £. That is one hell of a mark up. So i don't want to touch RC simulations with a barge poll and would be grateful if anyone could advise as to where i may purchase lock on gold at a more reasonable price. Or would importing be the best option (and still considerably cheaper than purchasing from RC simulations) Thanks.
