  1. RE: Apologies i did misquote your post To even suggest someone lacks decency for asking a valid question is giving them a kicking. The original poster did say he looked it up (probably not very well as indicated by him admitting he searched the index section only). And where is the law which dictates that you must read the manual before posting. In any event he received a reply in approx 10 minutes after posting. Probably quicker than looking through the manual using the knowledge the original poster had (not keyword searching in PDF document etc.) General statement not directed to any individual I just don't understand where people get off thinking that if the question is simple, below them, lacked research or has been asked somwhere before, people have the right to start defaming / character bashing. Disclosure no animals were harmed in the making of this post. Peace in and peace out :animals_bunny:
  2. With all due respect sobek and this is what people complain about. Its not your job here to give people a kick in the bum. By all means, Tell them the answer, Refer them back to the manual advise them to recheck what they think they know. Thats great. But lets not be rude about it or try to bring public humiliation to the poster. we all see the same questions here over and over again. Its the nature of forums. But its when (not pointing fingers here) responses become agressive / rude or just plain not helpful is when we start alienating the community and the simming community as a whole will suffer. Peace out:clown_2:
  3. The thing to note with icing is that it is dependant on air pressure, moisture content and temperature. The less pressure air has and the colder it becomes, the less moisture it can contain. Physical airframe icing will be most prevalent in low temperatures above and below zero with high moisture content. so it goes to reason (in theory) that the colder the air is and the higher you fly the less moisture it can hold and the less likely you will encounter icing. Though remember air is a collection of parcels of air of different temperature / density spanning in volume of space and moving in 3 dimensions. So you can have a cold air parcel moving through warm air or vice versa (clouds and fronts) The most prevalent form of icing actually happens in moist warm air and is known as induction or carb icing described below. Moist air well above zero is a major factor of induction or carburettor icing. And is the one of the largest contributing factor to forced landings. Induction / carb icing can happen in tempereatures as high as 15 degrees celsius or slightly higher depending on air conditions (high moisture content) Carb icing is most prevalent and this is caused by the venturi effect from the air appature controlling the flow of air into the carb to be mixed with fuel. From Bernoulli's law, the venturi effect will cause a pressure drop of the flow of air. As the pressure drops it cannot sustain as much water and will become more saturated. The air speed increases and cools the water vapour to a point where ice forms in the throat of the carburettor causing a restriction of air. This will result in power loss and possibly engine failure. This is why carburettor engines on low revs will be prone to icing more than an engine at high revs and can suffer from icing at temperatures well above 0. At low revs the butterfly or appature introducing air to the carburettor will be mostly closed. It is here that the venturi effect will be greatest (and from bernoulli's law) the pressure drop the greatest leading to a greater chance of icing. Fuel injected engines won't suffer from carb icing but are still succetpable to induction icing. At full power the butterfly or appature in the carburettor will be fully open with very little venturi effect. Hence why a lot of carb craft suffer from icing on decent causing engine failure. Induction icing works fairly similar in principle from the venturi effect of the air intake restriciton / air speed increase feeding the engine. So in real life. Icing can happen at temperatures well above 0 degrees c. Lowering the air pressure, the less water can be contained in the air. Lowering the temperature, the less water can be contined in the air. Its a combination of these factors that can cause icing and the reason why an OAT is a good indicator and here is the reason why. Before take off you grab the met weather. This will give you an idea cloud base, temperature and dew point. As we know as pilots that we are passing through parcels of different air, its stands as prudent that a drop in OAT whilst in flight in what we deem to be possible icing conditions will warn us that icing will become more likely. An OAT is not a device that will tell you exactly when you will encounter icing. It is however a great indicator that your likelyhood of encountering icing is increasing. A very useful device. Anyhow i have rambled.
  4. Thats great you answered him. So you are upset he posted somewhere else? Oh my god. ITS HIS RIGHT. And to think you CHASTISED him here and CHASTISED HIM on the other thread makes this a personal attack and against forum rules and deserves mention to forum moderators. Senior people on message boards should be mature enough to not bring out the finger useless flame and attack people for asking questions. WIth replies like this its a wonder anyone risks asking any question. The only other place i have seen worst replies to genuine questions is on Derek Smarts forums. There is no need for such behavior like this. If you are mature memebers of this forum then bahave like one.
  5. Most likely becuase as seasoned gamers.... We realise that a lot of items are not described accurately or at all in some games. Its a valid question and asking here is sometimes quicker than scouring a manual - the poster said they have already missed it once It may be a way for a poster to get an answer to a question as well as introduce themselves to the communities. Give him a break guys and be civil.
  6. Slung load. lol Here i am thinking we are talking about me in my underwear
  7. I am mostly interested in the icing. You have mentioned airframe and induction icing. (Not even FSX modells airframe / induction / carburettor icing) Can you describe how it is implemented in game. Is it a set occurance based on static weather parameters or is it dynamic with various effects ? Also in the defence of Icing, what does the KA-50 carry? Blade tip heaters? Vibrating leading edges? Weeping membrame ? Bleed air for induction icing ? Regards, Bogus.
  8. I'd hate to say it, and i don't want to insight a flame war. But a console will never have the ability of a computer until a console becomes a computer. Todays console technology is yesterdays computers ability. Consoles have never AFAIK produced anything remotely resembling a correct simulation. Consoles (are getting better) just don't have the peripherals available to them to enable realistic simulation. Console programming is locked and does not allow for tweaking and extraction of information to secondary devices. Therefore you are not able to make a pit and export the information to MFD's like you can in a computer. Therefore, no matter what any console person says. A console will never ever be able to simulate in, not even in the ballpark area of what can be accomplished with a well programmed PC sim run on a PC It is just not possible. Also, i have seen the trailers for it and it looks crap
  9. I am amazed. 6000m is awfully high, for a helo. Is RPM overspeed modelled in relation high altitude operation ?
  10. Unfortunately i don't have the pro, but i do that the standard X-52. When the new drivers were released (to conincide with my new saitek peddles) and i installed them (after uninstalling the old drivers) I received a error with my Hotas and it wouldn't load up any profiles. I contacted Saitek custome support (who are very quick at replying and excelent). They advised that the drivers dig deep and gave me a simple (but indepth) list to get in there and dig them out and re-install. All worked fine after. If i was you, email Siatek now. They will sort you out !
  11. LOL i must be a sicko, I thought the title said black sheep..... Now i read it.... How crazy are you to try *THAT* with a shark instead Fwoooaaarrr
  12. I am afraid alex that open falcon flight model is far from perfect. It really does not even come close to the complexeties of the modelling on the su25t. The flight model and not the graphics is what stops me from investing more time on OF So lets have a look at what DCS is offering 6DOF Advanced flight model as good as SU25t (hopefully) Full switch technology advanced damage and system modelling Much better graphics. All of which will be (hopefully from what i have seen by dev reports and movies posted) above that of Open Falcon. So, if you enjoy Open falcon, you should be blown away by this (bar a dynamic campaign of course). If you enjoy flying just for flying as well as active combat, then how can you go wrong ? Falcon will soon be where it belongs, on a shelf being admired for what it has achieved. Also remember that it was stated that the list IS IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER. There are a few things we know for sure. Only flyables without radar will be modelled first. That would leave the following as candidates for the following release 1- A-10A Suite 2 2- A-10C Suite 3 3- AH-64A Blk. 49A 4- Mi-24V So lets look at this logically. Black shark will cater for rotor heads. Excellent. So DCS has two options. Model the opposing sides helicopter to enable online Faction against Faction playability. Or they can release a fix wing to stop the jocks crying and bring in a whole host of revenue by catering to the fixed wing market. For me the options is clear and simple. Release in the following order 1- A-10A Suite 2 - get the fixed wing peeps out of the tissues and into a cockpit. 2- AH-64A Blk. 49A to then have competition for the black shark 3 - A-10C Suite 3 - as they have already done most of the work on this (by the sounds of it) all they have to do is adapt it into the new engine Then i would say (if radar and Air 2 Air wepons modelling has not been completed) 4- Mi-24V - this is because i don't think they have started or done much with this (my opinion only) I wouldn't be worried, we know the AH64 has already been well into construction. So this is my prediction and if i am right (my wife never thinks so) it will be out as one of the earlier releases.
  13. Ummm on a slightly different note. Is nobody even remotely worried about the words "Black sheep deep penetration" ?? I am not sure if that is my cup of tee
  14. What about assigning a few AI ground pounders for cover against a2a threats ?
  15. If its any help, i have the target size mapped to a slider. Makes it very easy to adjust on the fly.
  16. Ohhh the 504th, I have heard of them. The best 25 and 25t squad around i heard.;)
  17. Thanks for the post Wags. Just to know that a dynamic campaign as a possible future makes me happy about the progression of DCS. It will be interesting to see what can be done with the current system you are working on. I have one big question though. In previous posts it has been mentioned that there is a limitation to the number of units that can be placed / tracked? by the engine. In each mission generated. How much of the map are you able to populate with friendly / enemy vehicles? Or is the limitation on numbers going to mean that we will have the same situation with lock on where if you deviate from the flight path too much you end up in a barren land where there is nothing around ?
  18. You can also dial in two NDB's, Draw a line on a map and where they intersect is where you were 5 seconds ago :smilewink: Acedy is right. NDB's don't provide range.
  19. Hey i heard of the 504th. Aparently they are the best bomber pilots in lock on to be found. A great bunch of blokes as well. ;)
  20. Until an enemy ka-52 flys Through the middle of that group of trees and loads you full of cannon. At present, the only safe place to hide will be behind solid ground or buildings. Can't wait for collidable trees. Its what Lomac and this sim really needs. Aside from that, it is looking good
  21. You should not be loosing connection with the trackclip. The only reasons you are loosing connection should be the following. 1. You have not set the sensor up in a position to cover full range of movement of your head. 2. You have a backlight problem. Whereby, your sensor is picking up some light in the background which is confusing the tracking. (for instance. I have a window at the back of the room. I must ensure that this is totally blacked out or else it will show hotspots on my tracking (( which can be seen on the trackIR screen that shows you the tracking dots))) Aside from that, you should not be loosing connection at all.
  22. You will find that most helicopters these days now incorporate a goverened (auto)throttle control. Even the R22 and R44 piston helicopters now have this set as standard start up proceedures.
  23. VERY CAREFULLY, Drop everything you are carrying, Drop all your internal fuel for enough for one go around, Go as slow as you can and release chute to time with your wheels touching the deck. It will very close !!! If you do it right you will end up at the top of the ramp and will have to roll back down. Wtach the brakes as you may end up dion g a wheelie when coming back down
  24. It wouldn't be crazy at all. far from it. It would be a financialy sound decision. Release black shark first. Sales go along as expected. 4-6 months after, Release BS as add on for lomac (like originally planned) Increased sales in Flaming cliffs, lock on and black shark as people would like to fly online in a full environement of playable craft. 3-6 months after - Release next DCS Flyable with new DCS engine - everyone then purchases that for the new indepth flyable and the new engine. Fits in a great time line and what do you have. Non conflicting sales for the DCS series, and an increased awareness and support for the existing lockon to fill the void that will be DCS with only one flyable. Of course people will buy both. People want the online playability of lock on until DCS can increase its number of flyables. Just reading the forums with the dissapointment of those that fly the fastmovers, it is quite evident that lock on will have a lot of interest until DCS can fill this role. To be honest you could even sell them side by side and you would still be guaranteed sales as DCS has different areas on the map and new campaign and mission builder system. Plus, look at the flight sim market as a whole. We are a niche. And we support that niche, more than any other games market. I could gurantee you that most people would by both in able to fulfill the best that both can offer until DCS can bridge that gap.
