Black Shark has to implement multicrew multiplayer
dodger42 replied to a topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Required syncronous comms? Use hamachi! :) -
This is typically the case, though I have run into more and more developers who offer up the code cheaper if they can maintain ownership, particularly if its around customisation of their own codebase.

Are you going to turn into a chopper whore?
dodger42 replied to Kenan's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I became addicted to chopper sims first with LHX Attack Chopper: Followed by Gunship and Gunship 2000. -
Hadnt seen that one, though the concept is excellent. Have always preferred modern theater though. Have you playd WWII Online GA?
-
I definitely agree on the integrated game. It has been talked about for a long time and I guess to a certain extent BF2 does do it, though by no means a simulation. Can only imagine how addictive it would be to come home, login, and take off for a flight in a persistent, massively online war. Maybe one day! :)

I would like a client LUA function for attaining own aircrafts XYZ coordinates, or even better itsreal world long / lat coordinates.
-
If they could filter the function or create a new one like: LoGetOwnXYZ() or similar. Thanks GG will post it now.
-
Thanks GG. Would seem like a fairly reasonable function to include in the client export list. Its not something that could be used as a so called 'unfair advantage'. Though getting it added will likely be next to impossible. :noexpression:

Thanks Andy :) My thread sorta got hijacked there. Is that data available only with server based lua exports enabled or is it accessible through client lua? Regards, Dodger

Touchbuddy compatibility?
dodger42 replied to warthogmadman987's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hey Warthog, it only works on Windows, or Linux with WINE (apparently). Regards, Dodger -
Can anybody confirm whether or not the non world object LUA exports can export X,Y,Z position of your own aircraft? I saw this only in the docs: waypoint_table = { this_point_num, -- number of point ( >= 0) world_point = {x,y,z}, -- world position in meters The x,y,z world position is relative only to the lockon map correct? Has anybody tried relating that to a real world coordinate? Also, the x,y,z above from what I can see represents only planned waypoints, not aircrafts position. Any ideas?
-
Raising this thread from the dead. Although I haven't tested this yet, I hear client LUA is now allowed. From reading the config.lua I didn't see anything that allowed the export of your aircrafts current coordinates. I saw this only: waypoint_table = { this_point_num, -- number of point ( >= 0) world_point = {x,y,z}, -- world position in meters The x,y,z world position is relative only to the lockon map correct? Has anybody tried relating that to a real world coordinate? Also, the x,y,z above from what I can see represents only planned waypoints, not aircrafts position.

Man that looks sweet. One thing MS have done well is allowing 3rd party development. I'd pay money for deep addons to lomac also, but that will never happen. Think of some of the weather mods for MSFS. The details some have made for flyables. If you have never tried FS2004 with a PMDG aircraft like the 747 or 737NG, then you really ought to. They boast a 100% systems modelling of cold and dark starts and departures. Would be cool is M$ offered their terrain engine for license and at a reasonable price.

Sweet photo of chopper dispensing countermeasures
dodger42 replied to dodger42's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Yup, though a bullet in the sensitive spot will probably take down any aircraft, the chopper clearly has more sensitive spots. I wonder if they will model that in LOBS? :) -

Apache is an awesome chopper but it has been downed quite a few times (as any chopper would in the same conditions). Unfortunately choppers are just too fragile in combat. Too many critical moving parts. They are obviously good for recon, but then the new drones are taking that to a higher level. I wonder how much longer attack choppers will be around. http://www.slate.com/id/2081906/ http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/doc/2004-04/11/content_322396.htm -

A good investment Outlaw! I've had TB for a while now. Recently I was playing Lomac and decided I to fire up F4:AF for a flight (for the first time in a while). Its really tough to remember different keystrokes for like functions between games. With TB though, your TB button for Chaff will fire chaff whether your in Lockon, F4:AF, or any other game with a profile. This same benefit will help reduce the brainsponge time required when learning a new game. Touchscreens are a commodity and are getting cheaper and cheaper and TB is free. Awesome! :)

Hey all, I just read through Zorlac's touch-buddy v1.0 release post. I noticed a lot of encouragement coming from people who had seen this project. I can say from the little involvement I have had in the project that both Zorlac and Wild.Bill.Kelso have spent countless hours to create the code and RuggButt also on creating graphics. I know there has been a great many contributors to the Lockon community on these forums. Those selfless people keep me and I'm sure many others interested in Lockon. I call on all readers to submit names of those that have freely contributed to community and their enjoyment of lockon. I'd like to start the ball rolling with this: 1. Ironhand for the kick butt training videos and resources at Flanker Training. 2. Glowing Amraam for the hours spent on awesome videos. Maybe this recognition will help encourage these contributors to continue their great work :)

And then a new patch would come out, and destroy the hacked dedi server. The lack of a true dedicated server imho is one reason why the online community is so small. The lack of variety in servers and missions is partly due to the fact that to run a dedi server you must have: 1. Big internet connection with low latency (> 1Mbps for UL and DL) 2. DirectX compatible system with good CPU / Video card For most people, point 1 means using a hosting company. But LO requires a fast graphics card. Since almost no dedicated hosting options have a DX graphics card, this pretty much limits users to the co-location option, which typically runs over $US150 per month. In my opinion, a dedicated server is more important than a dynamic campaign, more important than any helo additions, more important than AFM. The only reason I can possibly guess why this has not been done is simple ED does not know how.

** NEW MOVIE ** - The Chase

Awesome vid! -
What a sweet video. The formation flying part was humerous. I have to say that video is at least as impressive as any black shark demo I have seen. They already have cockpit pilot animations. The snow scenary / terrain towards the end (although not in hi res to really compare) looks far superior to the winter terrain in lomac. Do the guys at EECH development have further mods planned?
-
They can keep those cameras locked and do orbits. I was on an op with the Army with F111s doing PaveTac cover from around 30,000ft. We were on comms with them, and they could describe the bad guys in amazing detail. At one point they said "Theres a fat guy exiting the building". They cruised around up their doing orbits whilst we sneaked in. Makes it pretty easy to stay hidden when you have a guy with a godseye view on the phone.
