  1. Admit it, you watched the clip from start to finish.. :)
  2. I would like that neat alien ufo from independance day. Seriously though, how about some recon capabilities. Like flying a U2 and Russian equivalent and taking snaps of the ground defences so you can call them in to the other aircraft. Maybe when your orbiting up there doing the recon, you can identify the unit and right click to communicate the position etc to the other friendlies. Maybe you get points when a SU25 or Hog kills that unit.
  3. Nice write up pho3nix. Not sure how they define the role of the F-111 when performing PAVE-TAC, but I hope they replace that capability when the F-111's disappear. Did we have F-111's over East Timor?
  4. I picked EECH up on ebay (legit version - original media) for about $US8.
  5. Whichever you find, the host must have a decent 3D accelerator. Very few dedicated hosts have a direct3D compatible card.
  6. OMG are you serious? How on earth is that justified? Actions like this are precisely why I am typing this from a Fedora laptop. Does M$ limit the use of 'non ultimate' Vista edition within virtual hosts somehow or is only by the EULA? The reason I would use an OS Switch is I am gradually moving all functionality to linux and possibly OSX later. Initially some tasks are tougher on Linux simply because I don't know which app is good for achieving the task. I have to try Lockon within Cedega... that would be the end of Windows for me :)
  7. Ok this is a little old and some would have seen it, but still, a very nice video of OS switching, possible with a product called 'parallels'. Run Windows, OSX, Linux at the same time on one box, but much sweeter than VMWare. Has anybody used it?
  8. I tried Vista. I found the interface nice though achievable almost with XP themes. Aero ok, but only barely impressive. The bundled media centre is far nicer than XP. Other than that, I found it no different to XP. I switched to linux for my main use laptop. I have a 3d desktop that whallops aero. See screenies here: http://lunapark6.com/?p=2916#comment-28251. It's fast, completely customised, and has NO DRM INFECTION. On the downside of course is the lack of games (including lockon), though most are playable through Cedega now. And then you get mythTV which allows you to run a Tivo like app on Linux. I certainly couldn't stand by while M$ forces this OS down our throats with the move to DX10. In 3 years or so, you may have to be on Vista to enjoy the latest games due DX10. And all those points in Ryke's post about HDCP screwing you with Blu-Ray HD-DVD etc. How stupid do they think we are? Linux has matured a hell of a lot. Distributions like Mandriva, Ubuntu and Fedora will have you operational in no time. With M$ Vista heading the way it is, Linux user friendliness is closing in. I still have a machine with windows for compatibility and some legacy apps. I hope in 18 months I no longer need any windows. ED how about a port to Linux? :) yah right.
  9. Just like DNF? :) (did I say that? Well I kicked myself back into line already)
  10. Nice response IguanaKing :) Quote - Tallboy: "Losing the war in Afghanistan". How do you measure that? Sure by all accounts the battle has been tough, but I'm curious to know on what ground you base that statement. Heard from some guys back from Afghanistan that the Afghani mountain bunkers often have a cargo ship containers built in behind 1m reinforced concrete and under 5-8m of concrete then joined by tunnels. Then they have pre-positioned mortar plates covering landing zones used by the Russians, making it hairy to get in or out. But they also said that the locals were genuinely grateful to be rid of the oppresive Taliban regime, though they still hold many towns. Either way, the efforts of the Apache pilots (even allowing the marines on the wings) and the courage of the Royal Marine commando's is admirable and would certainly boost the morale of the forces.
  11. Even though a new mission editor would break some of the apps I have worked and am working on, it is a positive thing that ED have recognised the need to rework it. Already mentioned the much needed copy and paste functionality. Please ED... at least have that covered off.
  12. Although there is no dedicated server as such, there have been a few efforts to improve the level of automation of the server. The unfortunate and seemingly unavoidable fact is you must render directx video on the server, which means you need a server with a directx card (can be expensive and hard to find with a hosting provider), and that you waste a CPU. The two automation tools so far are: Dedmac: (google it) mission rotation LODC: (my attempt at automation) http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=17794&highlight=LODC LODC does a bit more than just lockon server automation. I wrote it to extend functionality already found in Dedmac. It would be interesting if somebody found a way to avoid the directx rendering. I'm pretty sure it could be done somehow, though the time and effort required might outway the benefit.
  13. Hey zenTera, Though I have been away a lot recently, whenever I drop into the TB dev forum on touch-buddy.com there is plenty of activity on new releases. Bill and Zorlac have lots of new features on the way :)
  14. Hey all, Selling my beloved Cougar. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260045386895 :)
  15. Flight model in FSX seemed a better than FS2004, but still a bit suspicious. Being able to do continuous backward loops in a loaded passenger jet doesn't feel right.
  16. You might have seen this sweet and brand new video of the virgin galactic space flights. Pretty interesting design. I'm going to save up my $$$ for sure. http://www.popsci.com/popsci/aviationspace/e92d5924625fd010vgnvcm1000004eecbccdrcrd.html
  17. I used in regional australia, latency was higher, but certainly playable.
  18. That system will run Lockon fine. Like some others that have posted, you will likely have highest visual settings except view distance. Make sure you get procaff for the dual core otherwise you will get a choppy game. Set lockon to the second core. I look forword to the day when we have so many cores that we can assign cores to various duties. E.g., Processor 4-8 = games, 1-3 = OS / Apps.
  19. Man that sucks Ryke. I would probably move if I couldnt get some high speed access. Now when I travel for work and have to use a dialup my mood quickly deteriorates to psychosis. Web pages these days are more and more geared up to expect users have broadband, so it must be getting even worse to be on 56k. What about syncronous Satellite?
  20. Starlight you brought up a bunch of very valid points, and why not post it in this thread? Each week or so these new screens come out which do look fantastic, but they also sideline the significant issues already inherent in the product. I'm sending rep over because you backed up your points with screens and clear commentary. ED of course are entitled to develop and release as they see fit. Ultimately if the userbase is ignored long enough a new flightsim will become available whose development team listens more to the communities issues. People will switch and likely never return. Is it foolish to think that one day developers might post lists of new features and bug fixes and allow the community to vote? The developer could choose to do with that info what they will, but at least they would know if they are in or out of touch with the community.
  21. Speaking of those bullet effects, check out this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVDhoC99gNQ&mode=related&search= Half way in you see the vehicle rapid fires and the traces begin bouncing. Thats an effect that would look so sweet in Lockon.
