  1. big difference from the i5-750, HD5770 and 4GB I had been using. Now I can enjoy everything on high, mirrors on, etc etc.
  2. my new rig rocks DCS A-10, P-51, BS2 - check my sig. I went for the PRO version of the mobo as it has onboard wifi, and better OC option for the future (no plan to to OC til I need to) :)
  3. Get a new rig, as per new sig
  4. Hey Rubberduck, how's the new rig shaping up? I get mine soon, hopefully. Currently 'in building' :)
  5. works ok in chrome though on same machine
  6. This is happening to me with IE9
  7. New rig is now on order, and will have the now 'normal' config of a 240GB SDD and a 1TB HDD. I'm assuming that it's advisable to install DCS to the SDD, but I don't want to waste space with BS1 and LOMAC (for the benefit of BS2U and FC3). Presumably these can be installed and activated off the HDD. DCS on the SDD will find the activated products via the registry?
  8. Yeh, maybe the one in the review was just the bad apple. I do appreciate that M = mean so there'll be some dud and some exceptional ones!
  9. Thanks guys, so 240GB is perhaps the size to go for. On reflection the 240GB 520 are maybe not as expensive as my initial shock reaction let me believe! Just looked again at pricing the price jump from 180GB 330 to 240GB 520 is about £50. The 240GB 335 to 240GB 520 about £30. Over the life of the rig, that's peanuts right? :) And 5 yr warranty!
  10. Any thoughts on the Intel 180GB 330 SSD vs Intel 120GB 520 SSD? The 330 has more gigs, yet slightly slower bandwidths and seems to have lower life expectancy (3 yr warranty vs 5 yr for 520). Would the 120GB 520 be a better value drive overall? There's also a 240GB 520 but it's way expensive (though quiet decent), and a 240GB 335 but I was a bit put off by the review I read at http://www.anandtech.com/show/6388/intel-ssd-335-240gb-review/2 Was that just bad luck? Intel give 1,200,000hrs MTBF for the 335 (3 yr warranty). Overall I've read some good reviews for the Intel range, they seem to be decent products - good allrounders. Apart the v pricey 520's :)
  11. Thanks for the suggestions. Due to budget constraints (speccing a new rig too to go with it) I've taken a gamble on a 23" Samsung S23B550V 1080p. I just tried it out, and for me it's fine. I would love to go with a nice 1920x1200 (or that 27" Apple thunderbolt!!) but I need to spend on the rig :)
  12. Thanks, I went with single Samsung S23B550V which is on order. I was thinking about the 27" but was concerned about pixel pitch & image quality at that size.
  13. Nice one Rubberduck, I'm close to finalising my parts list then I'll be placing an order on PC Specialist!
  14. I'm not sure whether to put Win 8 or Win 7 on my new rig. I think I'll find WIn 8 'start screen' annoying without a touchscreen, but it does look quite good. Do you guys get used to it, with just a mouse? I'm quite satisfied with Win 7 so unless there's other benefits to Win 8, I may just go Win 7.
  15. I've not ordered mine yet - still finalising :) What monitor you using?
  16. Will I need to deactivate the stand alone BS1 off the old machine too?
  17. I'll soon be ordering a new rig to replace my aging one (which will become my office machine). Am I right, that before I install DCSW and modules on the new rig I need to deactivate them all individually first off the old rig? Then activate on new once loaded? I have A-10, P-51 and BS2 Upgrade modules. (Plus standalone A-10, BS1, FC2 FWIW) I plan to get FC3 too later on, which requires LOMAC, so I guess when the new one arrives I will need to:- 1. Install BS1 from DVD (to allow for BS2 Upgrade later) 2. Install latest DCSW (download) 3. Install latest A-10, P-51, BS2U modules (downloads) 4. Activate using key codes I have already 5. Install LOMAC (already have original CD) 6. Install FC3 (download) 7. Purchase FC3 key and activate Is that order about right? Do I need to activate BS1, or just have it installed? Thanks
  18. Nice one!!
  19. I'm struggling to find a decent 24" monitor or TV for use as a monitor. Any suggestions?
  20. Thanks pacotito
  21. Bodo, thanks again for the excellent words of advice. I won't be upgrading existing, my plan is to get a whole new rig and 'demote' the current one to the become the general family machine. Dave, just looking for the easy option with pre-built from PC Specialist. I built my last because the OEMs didn't have what I wanted for the money, now they seem to be more flexible.

  23. Check your PM :) I'm looking to get new PC and monitor, and am in the 'research' phase. 32" is a bit much for the space I've got in mind (24" maybe better) but I just am intrigued to know if the 1080 pixel pitch at 32" is an issue
