  1. For future reference, I've had this problem in the past and it had to do with how Windows was scaling items on the display. at least that is what I vaguely remember. try going to resolution settings and click on the option to "make text and other items bigger or smaller" or something like that. Also, I think I've gotten that same error because of having certain USB devices plugged in. Don't quite remember. If anyone has this issue in the future, I remember that I found the solution to it by googling the error and it was posted on the free track forums.
  2. I have a 15" 2880x1800 display (retina macbook pro) with windows 8 on it via bootcamp, and it runs DCS very well at full resolution. The only problem is that text is so small that since I primarily do multiplayer, I set it to 1920x1080. My main gaming desktop uses a 2560x1600 monitor and it works great.
  3. I'd suggest getting a 1080p display, this sim needs as many pixels as you can throw at it. Mainly though, you're zoomed out. I always zoom in a bit. It's simply not realistic to display such a complicated and realistically modeled cockpit in a 1600x900 display, so the only fix is to zoom in a bit. Also, it seems like your Track IR is sitting a bit low, might want to readjust it.
  4. Honestly, DCS is so incredibly unstable right now that I would not consider it a multiplayer sim. You basically aren't going to get any form off stability right now. The last five multiplayer games I've played (104th, <51>'st, and S77th servers) have *ALL* crashed. Every single one. I don't even know why I bother anymore with this sim online, there just isn't much point to it right now.
  5. I have noticed that on my computer at least, the download speed is fastest for the first few minutes (I'm talking 2-4Mbps) and then it gradually decreases and can go as low as 2kbps. I've found that on my computer, if I stop and then reopen the updater.exe, it will not start all over again but will pick up where it left off, so I can get back to the high initial speeds again. For a huge update I have done this 2-3x for a single download. I don't know if this will apply to you.
  6. Honestly, it would be best if you bought a new machine and use nVidia + Intel if DCS is your major gaming concern.
  7. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! Fantastic pics guys, anyone have any more? I hope I can eventually go to Makc airshow one day, it's on the bucket list :)
  8. I would recommend the 128Gb Samsung 840 pro - it is fast as HELL, far faster than the corsair SSD you picked (I have one of those too and it is not as fast as the 840 pro). Samsung is using a fantastic controller in their pro SSD's.
  9. Speaking as a college student in upper level bio classes and a part time job, this isn't true. You can always make time for DCS, assuming you don't need any sleep ;)
  10. Everything you have said is true, but for all of the fun and good times ED has given me with their sims, I would be happy to give them money for a product or improvement like AFM for the eagle and flanker if it meant they would come out with it sooner. Honestly, the fun-to-cost ratio with ED sims is sooooo much better than any other video game I've ever bought.
  11. I already bought FC3. For Su-27 and F-15 AFM, if I have to pay for it, that's fine. ED deserves to be paid for their work. Hopefully if enough of us have this sentiment ED will work on it faster and prioritize it more!
  12. Love it!!! Awesome pictures, those shots of the T-50 are especially nice.
  13. That is pretty cool! I live right near North Las Vegas Airport, I wish I would have known he was going to do that so I could have gotten far away :D
  14. Guys, wingtip vortices in real life will differ from one another dramatically, even with the same aircraft. It will vary depending on speed, angle of attack, G load, humidity, altitude, temperature, etc. etc. etc. Depending on those factors you can have completely different looking vortices on the same type of aircraft. I have seen with my own Mk. 1 eyes wingtip vortices that look exactly like that.
  15. There is one thing the Israelis could do to make a strike on Iran possible. They could just strengthen the landing gear of the F-15I and F-16I and find a very remote ancient lakebed in Syria or Iraq where they could land and refuel in secret. If they fly low, I am sure they could find a route that would take them around radar installations. You all forget how eager Iran's Arab neighbors are to see its nuclear program vanquished. They may not be able to publicly let Israel use their airbases, but it's likely they'd look the other way.
  16. Blackadam, what you are bringing up is the absolute best case for Iran. But in reality, Iran has received NO spare parts for these aircraft in decades. Same goes for their AIM-54 Phoenix missiles. I doubt their F-14's can co much more than get in the air, much less fire off a Phoenix missile. In fact, I heard Iran burned up their AIM-54's in their war with Iraq in the 1980's. Also, don't think that the Israeli's don't possess a good deal of information about the Iranian's Air Force capabilities. Mossad is world renowned, and if they were able to penetrate Iran's nuclear program so thoroughly as they did, you can bet they'd easily be able to get information on their Air Force. I bet the F-15I's are well equipped to fool the F-14A's electronically.
  17. Hey Tali, I fly with you sometimes (Brad H) and I have been having the same problem, I think you and I have been on both the 51st and 104th servers and saw them crash many times after this last update. Let's hope ED fixes it soon, right now DCS is basically not a viable multiplayer game.
  18. I would happily pay $100 for a DCS level Su-35. Hell, I would pay $100 for a DCS level Su-27SM! Hell, who am I kidding, I'd pay just to get an FC3 level Su-27SM!!! I love Flankers. And Fulcrums. Pretty much anything the Soviet Union put in to the sky I find interesting.
  19. Did it work before the patch? I would delete your headtracker.dll file and re-download it from the website I posted earlier
  20. I never knew so many people used FreeTrack for DCS, and here I was thinking I was one of just a few using it :D
  21. It's difficult enough to play a round with 20 people that lasts for an hour. I bet a server with 50 people wouldn't last 10 minutes.
  22. You guys were putting it in a headtracker folder? Is there an instruction online somewhere that says to do this? I think I had a similar confusion in the past doing the same thing myself, but yeah putting the headtracker.dll file directly in to the bin folder itself should resolve the problem. You shouldn't need to modify any LUA's.
  23. The wingtip vortices depend on how much moisture is in the air, here in Nevada they aren't very visible at all. As air moisture is not a variable modeled in DCS, they must be using some average estimate for the whole sim. The G-breathing technique is only used at very high G loads that are difficult to maintain for significant periods of time in the A-10C due to the nature of the aircraft, especially with a full load of fuel and/or munitions. This is not a "bug" or a problem IMO. In real life, pilots strain heavily and stress certain muscles to keep blood from exiting the upper portions of the body (mainly the brain) from moving to the lower portions of the body, because that is where gravity forces it to go in very high positive G situations. If enough blood exits the brain because gravity is pushing the blood down toward your feet, your brain will very rapidly become deprived of oxygen and you will very quickly pass out. It only takes seconds for this to happen. This strained breathing technique is not necessary most of the time in the A-10C.
  24. Here is the file. I placed it in \...\DCS World\bin\ It should work for both freetrack and facetracknoir 64 Bit http://sourceforge.net/projects/facetracknoir/files/Special%20support/ED/64bit_games/ 32 Bit http://sourceforge.net/projects/facetracknoir/files/Special%20support/ED/32bit_games/ I faintly remember that I might have done a bit more than just place the headtracker.dll file in the bin folder, I did this all a long time ago and it continued to work after the 1.2.6 update, if you guys still have problems getting it to work I will find out if there was something else I had to do to get it to work. First of all, I have a track ir 5 and pro clip but I built my own FreeTrack headset because I find the software much better and I can make my FreeTrack headset with a big battery so I don't have wires going everywhere. And I can use better + more precise webcam with a higher resolution, better LED's, etc. So please don't act as if Track IR is inherently better.
