I have spent far more time in the Flanker than in the F-15C, but whenever I've had an R-27ET shot off at me, I have never NOT seen it, because I am always carefully looking out for IR or TWS guided missiles.
-
I am not sure what your point is. I am just saying that the F-15C entered serial production long before the Su-27SM did. Whether or not ED includes the Su-27SM depends on what exact era they are attempting to replicate. The Su-35 never entered serial production.

While the R-27ET is effective against newer and unexperienced FC3 pilots, anyone with any amount of skill can easily see the missile coming, turn off their afterburners, and pop off a few flares and the missile is basically going to miss 95% of the time. The R-27ER has similar issues, the launching aircraft must maintain a lock, while the F-15C can pop off an AMRAAM and turn around without having to keep a lock on the enemy A/C the entire time. The first F-15C's came in to existence in 1979, the first AMRAAM's entered service in 1991. The first Su-27SM came in to existence around 2002. If ED is intent on only modeling aircraft in existence in the early 1990's, then I can understand why they wouldn't include the Su-27SM.

I just use FreeTrack. I built a headphone clip being powered by a 9V battery that works better than my Track IR Pro clip to be honest. It was easy and cheap to build, $25 in fact, and works great. No need to plug in a USB cord, I prefer batteries so I dont have to deal with yet another USB cord dangling in front of me. Best yet I can use whatever webcam I want, it is easy to remove the IR lens filter from it, slap a little slice of undeveloped film in front of it to block out non-infrared light, and I can get a far more accurate track than the standard track IR camera.

As a registered member of the Flat Earth a Society, I find this comment highly offensive. We have known, from time in memorial, that the earth is actually flat.

There are some server side issues that will occasionally happen. This can be incredibly, unbelievably annoying. But even looking at this issue, FC3 is still WELL worth it. ED sims have a rabidly loyal and fun user base for good reason. I own DCS: A-10C and FC3 and I ONLY play multiplayer. It is fun to be able to switch to a fighter jet after a guy shoots me down in the A-10c so I can shoot him down :)

I want to fly DCS: Tu-160 White Swan (NATO designation is Blackjack) :D Really though, I think ED's fan base would absolutely love a multiple fighter, like the F/A-18 or the Su-30MK. The Su-30MK is a two seater, but the Huey has multiple positions as well and it works fine. Honestly though, I can't explain why, but my ultimate wish would be to see DCS: Su-34. I don't know why but I think it is a gorgeous aircraft and I'd love to see a study level DCS sim for it :D

If they ever did that then I would buy CA without a doubt.

Shhh, that was supposed to remain a secret remember?:P

I don't think that is the best solution. I have played flaming cliffs since 2006, and I didn't start reading these forums until 2011. There are plenty of skilled players who enrich the multiplayer environment that don't visit the forums. I think maybe in the briefing you might include a few instructions for the newbies such as how to start the engine, and a tiny URL to the manual as well. But I don't run a server so I don't know the best way to fix this without having ED do something. I think that soon enough a lot of the "bad" steam newbies asking "how do I blow stuff up!?" will give up and go back to playing HAWX, and we will be left with some good players from steam who took the time to read the manual and actually learned how to fly the sim, and we will all be better off from it!

What exactly is he wearing on his head? Whatever it is I want it.
-
This is off topic but I wish you guys would bring back kill announcements. I hate not knowing who I killed, or who killed me. Or who is taking off, etc.
-
They cant be bothered to read the manual to learn how to start their engines, but they sure are good at using google to find what the chat key (~) is. I agree with mustang to a point, but it is really tiring to see people say "I can't get in my plane to even start shooting things, this game sucks!" We were all new once, but these steam players are a different sort of people, looking for something more like HAWX. Oh well, I think we should at least show them how to get in to their slot and start up their engines. That way, we will have a lot of planes in the air for target practice ;) In any case, we will soon see the ignorant Call of Duty types go back to playing black ops, and the good ones will hopefully keep at it.

I have a strange issue. A-10C is running at 45-60FPS on my computer at all high settings, but it still looks a bit jerky? My display obviously has to be displaying a lower FPS than the computer is actually doing. Any ideas?
-
Yeah I think you will like the i5 4670K. I hope my system can handle the EDGE image generator when it comes out. Cause right now it is handling DCS etc. beautifully.
-
Well I bought the parts and assembled the new computer and it's amazing! I had an issue with A-10C and FC3 telling me that they needed to be activated because of a significant hardware change, but a quick search of the forums fixed that. The new build runs DCS very smoothly at ALL maxed out settings. The lowest FPS I have seen so far is 42FPS. The coolest part of all is that I simply took out the SSD from my old system and put it in the new computer and it started right up. Windows 8 automatically detected the new hardware and I had all of my stuff. It just booted right up the first time I turned it on. The only potential issue is that my power supply fan hasn't kicked on, except for one second whenever I turn it on. I think it's just because I got a high capacity PSU that delivers more power than I need right now and it isn't getting hot. But I will keep an eye on it.

Does DCSW really need more than 4Gb of RAM?
Night replied to Gloom Demon's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Hey Gloom, does DCS run well on your system at maximum settings? -
Yeah. And don't be afraid to run away when you are outnumbered :D
-
That is true. However, most people are too busy looking at their MFD's or radar scope to actually try visually finding a BVR target. In my experience with ET's, only skilled players will actually visually be on the look-out for IR missiles. You would be surprised how most people just don't see it coming, and aren't paying attention.
-
Thanks! That is a lot of awesome stuff. I discovered (by accident) a really useful tip for Russian aircraft in long-range BVR engagements. This is only a useful tactic at long ranges. When you get locked on at long range, and the enemy aircraft finally gets close enough to fire off a missile at you at his maximum launch range, you should fire off an R-27ET at him and then turn away. He will not get a lock tone warning, and most of the time he will chase after you. In most multiplayer situations, you will get the kill by doing this. And if not, gain altitude and turn around quickly and pop off an R-77.

One is 3 years old, the other is over 5 years old...

Hey guys, I have not seen a thread for this so I think it would be a good idea to have one. FC3 BVR combat can be extremely difficult to master. It can take a LOT of time for most people until you are competitive on a multiplayer server, especially if you are flying against skilled and experienced fighters. So share your tips and strategies!

Error Messages on TM Warthog throttle/joystick
Night replied to sobe's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Might want to try it on a dif computer and see if it works there, that tells you if it's the TMWH or the computer that's having the issue. -
Why does the Shkval laser need a while to cool down and can only be used for something like 15 seconds if I recall, but the A-10C laser doesn't seem to have this restriction?
