  1. I frequently go in to what I call "Hunter" mode with the Russian fighters :D Many newbies don't realize that when they turn on their radar or jammers, they are basically lighting themselves up like a Christmas tree and everyone nearby can see their general location. That's a bad idea. Especially when you have someone like myself on the opposing team, using your RADAR emissions against you in a very big way. Basically, as mentioned by others in this thread, I find it best to use IRST whenever possible. Instead of pressing I to activate radar, press O to activate IRST. IRST is a passive system that looks for infrared heat signatures of enemy aircraft. I find it best to fly low and go through canyons, so that any enemy aircraft would have to be very close to find me. Occasionally I will pop up out of the canyons for a few seconds and look at my RWR to see if there are any enemy aircraft close by using their radar/jammers. I will also use this "pop-up" time to sweep the area with my IRST. If I locate an enemy, I try to stalk then outside of their radar detection area (basically I move closer to them directly from their left or right side). When I am close enough, I will pop off a single R-27ET missile. Because this missile does not emit radar of any kind, the enemy generally doesn't know they're in danger and doesn't take any evasive action. Usually they will simply continue flying in a straight line and won't know what hit them. If the ET doesn't kill them immediately, I am usually able to pop off an R-77 before they have time to realize what's going on, and by then I'm close enough that there's simply not much they can do about it. The "stealth" IRST approach is one of the best aspects of Russian aircraft in FC3 that the American aircraft don't get to use. You have to use your strengths to your advantage. There are a few drawbacks to using IRST alone. The worst drawback is that you cannot tell an enemy apart from a friend just by their heat signature. There are ways around this, however. For example, lets say you are tracking a target in IRST and they are going 500Km/h. If you look at that speed, and it is a consistently slow speed, you can generally assume safely that it is an A-10C or an Su-25T. If you look at your team roster and there are no A-10C's or frogfoots, you can be assured that you are looking at an enemy aircraft without ever firing up your radar and alerting the enemy to your presence. Even more, if there is a frogfoot/hog pilot on your team, you can simply ask them where they are to determine if your target is a friendly. If for whatever reason you simply can't distinguish if your locked target is a friend or foe, you can rapidly fire on your radar for a second or two and check to make sure, and then just as quickly turn it off. 80% of the time, the enemy will not notice you just locked them on. Another drawback of IRST compared to radar is that you cannot move the scan zone up and down like you can with radar. Usually, I will wait to make this identification until I am close enough to pop off an R-77 the second I get confirmation, in case they do start maneuvering in response to my short lock. The best part is when they are flying with a wingman in close proximity. In this case, I will fire off an R-27ET at the lead aircraft, and will rapidly lock on to the wingman and shoot another ET at him. In most cases you can have them both bursting in to flames within seconds of each other, wondering what on earth happened!
  2. Is there any way to get Ricardo's HD cockpits working in FC3? I absolutely loved the detail of the HD cockpits and FC3 has always felt like a step backwards in that regard with Russian aircraft.
  3. I'd agree with you except I am getting this problem without entering in to combat at all. And only at Sochi. I'd honestly like to believe it was something I was doing, but it's not happening at any other airbase.
  4. It may be just a particular server I play at, but it rips my gear off well over 75% of the time. Not exaggerating. It's the only aerodrome I've seen with this issue. It might be an issue caused by the recent update? Who knows. All I know is, I am doing some of the best landings I've ever made and my gear seem to get ripped off randomly. This isn't just A-10C though, its any aircraft in DCSW. I have been flying flaming cliffs fighters for 7 years now and I can land them fantastically. It is so easy to do a gentle landing on an Su-27. But at Sochi, my gear still seem to get ripped off 75% of the time, regardless of wind or any other factors. I will post a track the next time it happens to prove my point.
  5. The absolute worst I've seen is Sochi. I can put the A-10C down gently as a baby, do everything right, and about half the time my gears get ripped off. This also happens in FC3 fighter aircraft. This does not happen at any other aerodrome (though I never use Kutaisi). It's gotten so bad that I've started using the smaller runway to land at Sochi, so that if my gears break I don't get in people's way.
  6. If someone is now building a computer and is going to buy a CPU very soon, would you guys suggest getting an i5 or an i7 for the future? I am building a computer and I am getting a ordering on Wednesday. I have been looking at the i5-4670K. I know that DCS right now cannot make use of hyperthreading, but do you guys think the new image generator (EDGE) that seems to be in the works will make use of hyperthreading, and make the i7 a better investment? I am not sure. For budget reasons, it will either be the i5-4670K and a GTX760 video card, or a i7-4770k and a GTX660
  7. Is that because if the aircraft gets shot on the fuel tank it will blow up? Makes sense.
  8. Yeah you are correct I cannot download it either.
  9. I had the same problem a few weeks ago on a multiplayer server. I don't think it was the particular mission on the server because I've never had problems on it before or since. The only way I found to fix this was to exit out of DCS and reopen. I can confirm it wasn't an issue with the mouse as I also tried using my X52 mouse thing and a touch pad and nothing worked. It just seems like the cursor was stuck in the middle of the display but worked when I alt+tabbed to the desktop. I just kept going and managed to finish the mission without using my mouse :) I don't think it was game mode because all of my A-10C mapped commands worked, I've never mapped any commands to the game mode and I would have noticed that.
  10. As someone who works in the tech field, it has always amazed me how so many strange issues like this are solved by simply unplugging the USB device and plugging it back in.
  11. Does anyone know if the nvidia GTX760 will play DCS: A-10C at all high settings with a 1080p resolution?
  12. I think sapounas has it. Usually if you are flying straight and the attitude bars are still way off, you are probably in an area with heavy wind. The slower your aircraft gets, the more wind will effect your aircraft. The way to resolve this is to adjust the trim of your rudders. But if that's not what's causing it, it might be that your track IR isn't centered. If you are like me, and can't sit still for more than 5 seconds, then it's best to center your track IR as often as possible.
  13. Multiplayer will not take up a ton more system resources than single player will, except for some maps where the mission designer added a bajillion and one units. Honestly, playing at low graphics settings has never detracted from the gameplay for me personally, you shouldnt have a lot less fun than anyone else just because you are using low graphics settings. As long as you aren't stuttering at 12FPS most of the time, you should be fine. Honestly, multiplayer is the absolute best part about the flaming cliffs series, which is why you shouldn't consider fc1 or 2. If you can play at low settings at get acceptable FPS in DCS World, you should absolutely buy FC3 :D Edit: wow, didn't realize how old this thread was!
  14. I lowered the sensitivity in the center area of my joystick. This makes it far easier to keep those CCRP lines on the HUD matched up. as a bonus it also helps with formation flying, landing, and everything else that requires precise control. Also make sure you have a very easy way to adjust your trim.
  15. What helped me the most is getting a more stable and comfortable chair, and mapping a button on my joystick to center my track IR system.
  16. Does anyone know if Intel's 4th generation "Haswell" processor line is any better performance-wise compared to their 3rd gen "Ivy Bridge" line for DCS performance? For example, I was wondering if the Intel Ivy Bridge i5 4670K (6MB L3 cache, DMI: 5 GT/s, 22nm architecture) is any better than the Haswell i5-3570K at 3.4Ghz (6MB L3 cache, DMI: 5 GT/s, 22nm architecture)? I heard from someone that Haswell is no better speed-wise, and I've also heard that it is much better. I'm wondering if I should get a Z87 mobo with the i5-4670K or whether I should get a i5-3570K with a z77 mobo. Honestly, I have looked long and hard for any different between the two processors, and the only thing I could find is that the i5-4670K is slightly larger, and has two extra instructions sets (AVX2 and FMA3) but that was about it.
  17. I'd agree. Don't pinch pennies here, DCS A-10C is worth way more than they're charging for it. It's ridiculous to wait to get $12 or $10 instead of the current $16. The pitfall of online software is that once things start going on sale, people get cheap and believe it's not worth the full price ($40 in this case), but A-10c definitely is.
  18. Is that an F-15 and PAK-FA in the same picture? Wha....?
  19. The worst thing about the app is that I keep reaching over to try and touch a switch on my main monitor without thinking about it ;)
  20. It's a six dollar difference. Are you really gonna wait and hope it goes down all to save 6 bucks? Besides, ED is a small company, the more money they make the cooler stuff we get to play around with. DCS A-10C is worth 10x what they charge for it. Go get it already ;)
  21. Duct tape? :pilotfly:
  22. I am 23, my dad showed me my first flight sim when I was 5 years old - Microsoft Flight simulator 5.0. When I was 8, he got me Combat Flight Simulator. I LOVED it. To this day some of my fondest memories are of my dad or my brother and I flying against each other. Also in that same year I tried to play Falcon 4, but I was only 8 years old and all I ever had the patience to do was take off, drop bombs, and land. So I would play Falcon 4 sometimes, but I always preferred MS Combat Flight Simulator (1, 2, and 3).
  23. I would agree with your last statement. In real life, you do not send a lone A-10C in to a target area filled to the brim with Buks, Osa's, strelas, and tunguska's (unless Chuck Norris is the one flying the A-10C, of course). Only masochistic mission designers do this. In my opinion, this should erase any reasonable expectations of following realistic normal flight operations, like adding individual tanks to your flight plan. In real life, actual A-10C pilots would have some advantages that we would not have, and some drawbacks that we don't.
  24. This would be ideal, but I am creating markpoints on approach for quickly firing off mavericks, especially during multiplayer missions where speed is of the essence. It is quicker to shuffle through markpoints than creating an SPI, firing the maverick, going back to the TGP and creating another SPI, etc.
  25. So I can see how to create mark points, that is fantastic. How exactly do you erase mark points once you move on to another waypoint?
