  1. i have been looking to get a VR headset and have been mostly leaning towards the Vive over the Rift. I read that last couple posts or page or so of this thread (sorry its way to long) but i wanted to try and confirm if the Vive works with the regular installed version of DCS World. almost all of my purchased modules are directly from ED and not through steam. so i wanted to make sure i could use the Vive without the steam version of DCS:W On a side note please let me know if the Rift would be a better choice overall for someone who mostly does sims (space and air). TIA
  2. there inst much competition in the high end market but in large part its because that market is so small that a large company doesn't stand to make that much. If the spend a few hundred million dollars on R&D to develop a new $300-$500 HOTAS setup it important that the likely annual sales of those devices will only be in the thousands. from a product that may have a marginal profit margin it means it could take a company like Thrustmaster many years to earn back its investment. A low to mid range device which can have a slightly higher margin will also have a larger (but relatively small) market. We may all thing, but wait there are thousands of us, 10's of thousands of us.. how many of us are going to run out and spend 400+ on a new HOTAS right away.. it may take years for many of us to upgrade/replace if we already have a good unit. If they cant sell millions of units its hard to justify the development costs. That said, upgrade stick addons to the something like the warthog would be nice, replace the stick or something but that might create legal issues since they are licensing it as a air force A-10 replica (then again that might not matter at all. I dont know, i was depressed to see nothing special out of it but after some thought i guess it was a bit of "what should we expect" look at Logitech a company that also does pretty much nothing but peripherals a lot of which are gaming and they dropped the HOTAS years ago. Saitek/Mad Catz is trying but we can see how successful that company has been recently. I think a lot off this hit me after watching a video from a youtube channel "AdoredTV" who talks a lot about CPU and GPU markets and was talking about how amazingly small the highend GPU market is.. the cards like the 390X, FuryX, Titan, 980Ti all have annual sales are uprising small.. and if these cards sales are so small i have to imagine cards are sales are so small these even more niche items have to be even smaller.. Anyways, just 2 cents from a guy who doesn't know much :-) Hopefully im wrong and hopefully they do eventually come out with some new modular based HOTAS system that would allow us to replace just the stick/throttle grips over time to match new control schemes for new aircraft models :-) something like that could make the product lifetime longer and more profitable over time
  3. Thanks for doing this, i look forward to seeing the new stuff asap!
  4. ok cool thats what i had thought but when i first looked at the comparison images they seemed misleading.. maybe i need to examine them closer to see.. They actually looked like the streets were a bit different and the forest and field likes were different but what you are saying is what i would have expected from a re-texture only. Wingmen should be mostly ok as long as they dont depend on things be EXACTLY the same.. i have seen on youtube videos where people will count off the fields and stuff. i guess these would be edge cases anyways.. especially now with the new enhanced object visibility options. I still think its a beautiful texture job and since i don't do a lot of MP i will probably get it.. but i was still curious on that.. thanks for those that helped validate.
  5. thanks for your so very helpful response... If you noticed, i was asking for an answer from someone who was sure, from SW or someone from the ED team.. not additional speculation or assumptions i have those already.
  6. i apologize as i know i have posted this question more than once.. but with all the unrelated conversation that's off topic it keeps getting lost and not addressed but i think its important to anyone on MP. ---------------- Question Are these textures/improvements on only the existing objects in there existing locations? or does it add/move/change objects. I know that in some missions a wingman may talk you onto a target based on, "Look at the 2nd street over, the in front of the third large white building"... If one player has this DLC and the other doesn't.. will both see the "large white building" in the same place to a tank placed via the mission editor? or will the two pilots see different buildings, different colors or even different town layouts... I wanted to ask because some of the screenshots give the impression they might be different layouts and that the above talk on scenario may cause issues.... what are you thoughts. how will this DLC affect those types of situations. For a solo player it may not matter, but it may be an important factor in the decision to buy for those that primarily do MP. ----------------- Some people have suggested that things may be ok and that all objects stay exactly where they are and may have the same 'general look and color' but, im hoping Starway or someone who actually knows for sure could answer.
  7. It has been noted that it will be handled through the new module manager like all DCS modules, campaigns, maps, etc. so you should not have any issues.
  8. Im hoping you are right, and based on what i have read so far (pretty much the whole thread) im getting the hint this may be the case, but when i looked at the initial images i couldnt tell for sure so that is why i asked.. *more generally stating* that is what this thread is for... not debating if this should be DLC or not or if its price is to high or not, or whatever... its about the DLC and questions pertaining to it.. so im doing my best to keep it as such, i think its beautiful work, just want to understand the implications in multiplayer... i think i solo play there is zero concern in this regard.

I know that in some missions a wingman may talk you onto a target based on, "Look at the 2nd street over, the in front of the third large white building"... If one player has this DLC and the other doesn't.. will both see the "large white building" in roughly the same place to a tank placed via the mission editor? or will the two pilots see different buildings or even different town layouts... I wanted to ask because some of the screenshots give the impression they might be different layouts and that the above 'talk on' scenario may cause issues.... what are your thoughts. how will this DLC affect those types of situations. 10. cool thanks SW, that works for me, i would just suggest maybe updating the OP (if you haven't already). especially with how much its referenced and now even linked to in the DLC thread
  11. i would have thought that as well except i had seen it mentioned that the DLC stuff is NOT the same as this texture pack. I figured if that was actually the case this would still be available. I have the 3.1 version i just never downloaded the 3.2 version.. oh well i guess.
  12. download link in OP is no longer working it seems
  13. @starway - great job, awesome work i fell in love with the new scenery as soon as i saw it in the stream.. i almost forgot that the stream was actually about something else... it kinda stole the show. I think the presentation of this as a DLC component could have been handled better, i think it gave a lot of people including me the wrong impression.. reading this thread has helped. Knowing that ED will be continuing to develop and improve, releasing updated textures, meshes, and other enhancements for this map really make this a much simpler topic.. its just an option. i had thought this was going to be the only way to get an update to the black sea map, but i see i was wrong there. Regardless i think the FLIR stuff looks good, and i look forward to improvements you may make in the future. The quality of this looks really good and for helo guys and even low flying A-10/Su-25 pilots i think it will make a good improvement. ----- Question Are these textures/improvements on only the existing objects in there existing locations? or does it add/move objects. Im personally very interested in buying it myself, but might need to see some of the details, although at $15 i may just chance it lol thanks again for the hard work.
  14. I had thought the same thing, but Sabre stated that it was his/their decision not to ask ED to do this because they didn't know it was possible. It was not ED's decision to not allow it. They have allowed/supported it on other third part modules, i think the Hawk or one of the other 3rd party jets i cant remember. Seems like if there was a TRUE appreciation of all of us, especially those like you and I that have bought almost all of the MFMs, there would have been some effort to try and transition or covert our keys into ones that can be used. It's not like ED and MFM don't already have all of our details to cross match. I'm not saying it could be done in 5 minutes, would prolly take some time but its been done before. Knowing that the decision was to not 'bother' ED with this was what got me. Even still now, knowing that there may be an option for loyal customers and still there was no "Hey guy's sorry, let me check and see if we can do this" or anything. I appreciate the discount offer, but im still buying the same product again, not even an upgraded version or anything. With this offer I was going to consider re-buying the campaigns because i have most of them but have only used a few and would like to still like to use them. I have reconsidered.. now i don't know what i will do. i still want to use what paid for and get the updates, but the whole thing just rubs me wrong. i had a lot of respect for MFM, the work was good, but the decision here was not. I don't want this to be a 'hate' post, its not, just really wish things would have been handled better
  15. i figured as much which was why i was trying to direct it more at them, than you. I know you have put in tons of work to these, and have offer me and many others very good support so i have no ill will towards you assuming you have done everything can for us. If ED cant figure it out for the MFM keys when its been done for others, then my issue lies with them. Reading the post about the offer, that does please me, i havent read the details but seeing that a special concession is made to recognize long standing loyal customers is very important. Thank you. As i said above you continue with good ways to support us, thanks for putting this together
  16. Since its clear there will be no way for existing owners of to get new keys, can you at least find out and confirm if discounts will be available for the modules? i currently have 13 of the MFM, and since its been decides transfers wont be done, knowing i could get a fairly good/deep discount might lessen the blow if i want to run one of the many campaigns i haven't used yet. I haven barely used all of them, i bought the first few and liked them and bought the rest to support your guys work and figured i would use them eventually.. seems like that might have been a mistake. I get this may be more of an ED decision than one of MFM, but that said im pretty sure i will no longer purchase any further MFM campaigns if the final answer is "life sucks, sorry"
  17. yea i have to agree, im very disappointed. it has been done before a few times as i recall. I have purchased almost all of MFM campaigns, the idea that i have to pay for them again is extremely unfortunate as well as highly unlikely. It also has me concerned about how long i will be able to use what i have purchased since ED is moving away from external dedicated installers for modules and campaigns with them trying to move everything to the new distro method which i think is a good thing in general. I would ask that this decision be seriously reconsidered, please reach out to ED, find out what could be done, what is possible.. there are many customers who i think will feel burned by such a decision
  18. looks like they are out of stock now at that price / sale over that was a short one :-(
  19. **SALE OVER** Newegg has a sale on the Warthog for $299 now Its not the best sale but, $100 cheaper than amazon. You might be able to find it else where for same price, but i figured i would post it for those that were interested. Hope its helpful http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826280021
  20. Thanks for the tread with the details, this was the red-flag i was waiting for. Will follow this thread for update as to when it is available to early pre-orders.
  21. awesome new, i was scared it was a refurb or something as well, glad it worked out good for those of you that were able to get it
  22. in theory DCS should not have any issue with it, it will just be seen as another controller device, as long as you have the axis and buttons mapped properly so there is no overlap i cant see why there would be an issue. Hope you enjoy it.. i love mine, and the one i ordered from this sale will be here friday, no clue what im gonna do with it yet, maybe just a spare, or ebay or something but i couldn't pass it up!
  23. well that pushed me to do it.. its actually 1.5% though, not 5%. any who, i got myself a second TM Warthog for $260 you just cant go wrong with that... Maybe i will resell it, or spare parts or mount it in a dedicated home pit.. who knows lol
  24. Awesome, glad to see it was helpful... im tempted to get another one just cause the price is so low, even if just to resell it lol
