  1. Oh thanks for clarifying.. i know there are towed decoys and i had also thought that's what the Gen-X was, but reading it now and seeing that it says its launched from the AN/ALE-39 or AN/ALE-47 Countermeasure Dispensers i guess make that more clear as the towed decoys are from pylon stations on the wings i believe.
  2. Yes thats correct, i dont have the documents either but im pretty sure the F-16 uses the same (similar) decoys. From what i recall they are Expendables, once put out, if not hit, you cut or drop them before RTB. Thats just what i remember.. if the documentation is found i would like to see it as well.. Also i will say the documentation is open source.. ED is VERY strict.. the will NOT model any weapon or strategic system that is not based on open source documentation.. so the worry that its classified should be a concern. The info is out there or ED would not have modeled and used it. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  3. If you know you are going to want it, and you don't want to have to wait for a sale (or pay full price) when you return and are ready for it, then support ED and pre-order now would be my suggestion if you can do so financially. ED doesn't run sales like they used to, and this module likely won't see a sale any better than the current pre-order price for a while as it is in a way a flagship module. So i think now is the best price for a while probably for the rest of the year if not longer.
  4. Yes, absolutely awesome work, thanks for the effort and for sharing it with the community. Opens new things for me to do, or new ways. Thank you! Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  5. Short: My vote is No. Long: getting the YaK-52 as a benefit of work that ED has already been contracted and paid to do for a third party is one thing, and i like that as it ads to DCS world but does not really distract existing DCS pipeline and development work. All dev work aimed specifically for the DCS World community should be based on combat aircraft. as a few have noted, there are a number of (very good i might add) civilian flight sims, anyone that needs or wants to learn those skill can learn them there, and apply them within DCS. besides, DCS is a sim, if it takes us a week of crashing our harriers then that's what we will do :-)

    Yak-52B?

nothing that has been mentioned yet that i have seen

    Yak-52B?

yea i was just re-reading the announcement again and caught exactly that. "the Yakovlev Yak-52. This is an outgrowth of a professional, training project that we are also bringing to you." So yea, they were hired to do a professional simulation of it for a private company/customer, with the rights to continue to monetize a (assumed) modified version for the general public. I still feel it's an odd duck but i'm sure many (not all) will find in interesting and as long as its not a $39+ module, i might even check it out... maybe regardless, i have to imagine a decent portion of ED income comes from these type of private contracts, so when they can allow us, the public, to benefit from that work as well its good for all. So while its not my cup of tea, thanks for sharing it with us ED.

    Yak-52B?

this had to be a project of passion. that's all i can think of, it seems so out of place. I'm not against it, and i know i have seen people ask for civilian aircraft, but its a combat simulator. So unless its a civilian modified aircraft for military cargo or refueling which serves a role playing/meta purpose in a combat simulator, im not sure where this fits. Sure training, but we already have the albatros, C-101, and the hawk which cover this, the albatross actually covering it very well as a jet trainer. All three of these really cover that training role as they have very little (or no) combat usefulness. Maybe training for the WWII aircraft? except wait, we have a trainer of the TF-51D which is explicitly a trainer for the WWII style aircraft. I'm all for more modules, stuff like this i don't oppose as long as its not effecting the delivery of the comitted items and the stuff the customer base really is willing/wanting to pay for. It will be interesting i suppose to see how this plays out and where it fits in.
  9. Why can't we do both?? i like to collect the modules, i have some that i have only used once or twice over the years.. but I'm not competing with anyone, i just enjoy having them when i want them. Now to get back on topic, i have seen a couple video here and there, but i haven't been following all of the harrier news over the last few months leading to what should be EA release in "2 more week". Does anyone know of anyone on youtube that has a channel with some good videos or if there is a thread with a collection? i have seen a few of the RAZBAM testing videos from a while back... i just wasn't sure if RAZBAM had provided any testers access and allowed them to share some content, as i have seen that before.. anyways.. TIA
  10. Not personally but this probably doesnt belong in the community news section.. Try one one of the forum for the dcs world product Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

  13. Im not sure its confusing enough yet, maybe we should setup a few more channels just to ensure maximum levels of Discord saturation
  14. no problem, thats why i shared it when i saw the post.. :-)
  15. already a pretty large community setup on discord for DCS with a few hundred members and growing. No problems starting another if there are reasons, but if you started it not knowing there was already one, i figured i would let you know. you can see the details in this thread https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=163301
  16. Thanks for the feedback, as i mentioned i am aware that dedicated server ultimately is the best options, but also as noted, im only looking to be able to handle about 'a dozen' people. Hearing that it could be as many as 20+ is actually good news as that is more than is needed for what i am trying to do. So with that said, for a potential of about 10-12 users, how is this done on a virtual cloud server without a discrete GPU. I think this is really what im trying to figure out. I setup an AWS server with 2 cores and 8GB of memory but the DCS world client wouldn't fully startup. The loading screen came up and it sat there and/or crashed. To the best of my knowledge its because the client requires at least 4GB of vram. So again, i am aware dedicated is best, I'm not trying to setup a large public server. Its purpose is for a more private user base so i don't need to worry about large user numbers. Any input on how to even get it running for a couple users? what special config is needed? Maverick, maybe you would be able to talk to the guys who tested the setup and had it working for the smaller number, or maybe you know yourself? that is what im after. TIA -D
  17. From what i have heard, people have had DCS MP servers that worked on servers like Azure and AWS. I saw a post that stated the person initially had it working but gave up on it after it didnt scale, but that was from over a year ago. Cloud hosting services continue to evolve at a rapid rate and i wanted to ask if anyone has a general configuration or type of setup that works to run a MP server for about a dozen players using something like AWS or Azure. are there config files that are needed to remove the dependence on the GPU or are there server options from the providers that will give the GPU needed to make run? I know dedicated servers can be used and all the normal methods, but im specifically looking to see if there are any options using the pay by the hour cloud hosting virtual server option. Suggestions in-line with that are what im interested in please.
  18. DCS World Weekend News DCS: Roadmap (unofficial - NO DISCUSSION HERE) I would start checking these out, they should get you caught up on recent official DCS News (first link) and then the second link will give you the unofficial timeline of things. Everything put into that thread is factual in that it was mentioned and validated to a varying degree (usually noted) however the exact dates are never firmly or sometimes even generally known Still, these would be my best recommendations for ya to get caught up
  19. generally i agree with this statement all the way, but for some reason i have had way more fun with these darn little breaking xmas lights than one would generally be comfortable admitting too.. :-D It was confusing at first to figure out what the noise was from at first but once I figure out... F5 became a close friend as i tried different ways to bust all the bulbs lol
  20. it would be cool though if it was ED doing this sim for them though.. at least the idea of it is cool, the reality might make for issues i cant think of, but like i implied int he OP.. it would be interesting.. fun thought.. :-)
  21. i know it was partially in jest.. there was enough info implying it was another company, i just thought it interesting possibility :-)
  22. http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2016/11/29/navy-gets-new-flight-simulator-technology.html Hmmmm... we know the A-10 sim came from a military sim... ED?? you working with the military guys again? this our F-18 we been waitin on? Any who i know its not likely, nut when i saw the article first on engaget and then came across the same article on this foxnews site, it made me think.. just.. maybe.. Anyways, good day y'all
