New Thrustmaster Gear - Live Tweeting
Tailhook replied to Dojo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
They work even without manually installing the drivers. Device manager will just keep throwing a message saying a device isn't installed correctly. I think that's all it does, it's been a few years. Also to correct what I said, the directory of the drivers is HOTAS/drivers, not the Thrustmaster folder. -
New Thrustmaster Gear - Live Tweeting

Mine works perfectly fine on 10. I use the base for my rudders. To manually install the drivers, install the 2007_HCO_VISTA_64_RC1 package. Go to device manager, choose Cougar IN, update driver, navigate to the driver folder in the HOTAS folder in C: ProgramFilesx86, and it will detect and install. Repeat same for Cougar Out. Done.;) -
Take a solid guess.;) Until ED chooses to implement a free placement ground start option for flyable aircraft in the mission editor, aligning aircraft via tug is the only way to achieve a proper line of jets...
-
Forgot to mention in first post, the tugs could be both AI and player controllable, but preferably player. Possibly integrate it into CA?

Tow/Tug capability for both player-controlled aircraft (spawned) AND static aircraft/objects Edit: Tugs should be both AI and player controllable. Perhaps integrate it into CA?

New TM HOTAS Warthog not recognized
Tailhook replied to EagleDCC's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Good to hear you got it sorted out. Remember to update the firmware of the new one. Usually if you plug in the stick or throttle and Windows does the beep but doesn't show as a device but TM utilities detect the device, it is probably missing its firmware. Someone didn't know how to update it correctly and tried messing with it. It's not worth buying 'used' from unknown sources. ;) -
We can't 'fix' a companies app, it's out of our control. I personally am not a fan of Rafflecopter. This will probably be the last time we use their app.

If the app shows 0 entries, something didn't work right.

I don't know if this has been suggested before but I feel the need for free placement of aircraft on the ground has been a necessity of the community (primarily the aerobatics) for many years now. It doesn't matter where, on the ramp, in a forest, under a bridge, I think the Mission Editor should allow a Ground start position which auto-detects ground elevation allowing you to load into an aircraft anywhere on the ground. Changeable facing direction and cold/hot start options would be great too.

I am trying to set my own default field of view for the Chase view in the Views.lua of my mod but everything I have tried doesn't seem to work and I've run out of ideas. I've searched the forum for if someone has tried the same thing I am but no luck. I want to bypass the global ExternalViewAngleDefault setting in the Config/View/View.lua so I can integrate my changes directly into my mod and not have to change anything globally on DCSW. That way other external views are untouched but when I hit F4 to a backward facing 'chase' view I can have a GoPro effect pointed at my pilot. The only changeable values provided by ED are an XYZ localpoint and an Up/Down facing function, but NO FoV functionality... or at least that is how it appears. If what I am trying to accomplish isn't currently supported by DCSW I would like to add this to the wishlist. Instead of changing a global value affecting all external views people can set a different default FoV settings in their own mods without changing any vanilla DCSW files.

Not sure if anyone else has brought this up but I thought it would be cool if these sounds were added to the sim. Noticeable during landing at 5:27

I5 3570k or i5 4670k for dcs?
Tailhook replied to falcon_120's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
4670k. Newer/Better. http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/579/Intel_Core_i5_i5-3570K_vs_Intel_Core_i5_i5-4670K.html -
Considering the Corsair H100i
Tailhook replied to Bolt-1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
At stock CPU clock I idle at ~30C and have only peaked to 66C during a burn test. During gaming I have never seen it more than 55C. I use Arctic Silver 5 for thermal. As for the H100i itself, I don't think you will be able to use your existing back-plate because of the special screws supplied for mounting. Mine was a nightmare to put in because of just a millimeter of clearance thanks to the bad radiator support design with my case and the size of my ram. Overall I like it though and didn't have any problems with it. If you run into the known Corsair Link problem, just download the new firmware off Corsair's site and it should fix it. -
Ivy Bridge or Haswell: reapplying thermal paste
Tailhook replied to blackbelter's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Every de-lidding video I've seen made me cringe. Way too much chip manhandling for my liking if had to pick a method. Easiest method to me would simply be mount it, carefully use a heat gun, and peel. Done. No bang bang! -
A newer video card. I recommend a GTX770 or better, or HD7970 or better.

5GB of 8GB memory being used is not what is causing application crashing. What is, is most likely is your memory overclock. Memory rarely like to be overclocked and if overclocked they will never have 100% stability. Under-clocking memory is a different story. Memory is not like a CPU or GPU. Also, if you have stressed your memory, then chances are they are now officially defective and setting them back to factory Mhz/timing specs may have little to no increase in stability. I burned two sets of Corsair and G.Skill memory in the past by overclocking them and I had to RMA them because they no longer worked stable at factory specs. If you intend to purchase a 2x8GB memory set and still keep your memory overclocked, the new memory set must have the exact same timings as your 2x4GB set. If you choose to no longer overclock your memory, putting in extra sticks of the same MHz, they should work just fine. If your 2x4GB set has lower clock timings than the 2x8GB set, the 2x4GB set will automatically be under-clocked and run at the same (slower) timings as the 2x8GB set.
