If you look at big scale conflict scenarios (and ignore the fact that you probably won't need any weapons after the initial total destruction of the planet) than you have to have your planes in numbers before hand. Pulling people out of furniture bussiness to make airplanes just ain't gonna cut it with todays complex machines.

Yes.. in the end, it's on case by case basis. If you're already doing an upgrade, or a new aircraft, I don't see a reason not to include it. If you can't sqeese it in, and it seems you are loosing on other fields because of it, I guess that just makes you a bad designer :) And I don't consider it to be a cobra* either. *from Latin cobra, cobris : magic ;)
