  1. Pretty sure a new Tornado just got added to the collection at Duxford...nice easy access to a GR.4! I'd still like to see an F.3, just avoid getting in too close with anything! Any GR model needs to be a able to designate targets though. I can only hope this is made in the next few years.
  2. I don't disagree, I hope I've been respectful enough. I've only posted a couple of posts in the last day on different threads. I don't think it's bad, like I said, just don't think it is finished yet.
  3. I don't thnk many are saying they don't like the map, but that they don't think it should be described as finished or even that close to finished. Personally I like the map, I'm happy to fly around on it, but I'm surprised by some of the comments suggesting it is nearly done. Forum posts often get heated, it's not a great medium for communication sometimes. Personally I'd like to see the detailed area expanded outside of the ALG areas.
  4. My mistake. I sincerely hope that they are able to finish the development as I would have to agree. At the moment I don't know how it could be described as finished. There is a very detailed central area (that may or may not be accurate - I don't claim to know, but trust peoples' research) that suddenly give way to repetitive fields over the majority of the map. I can understand this in a few areas, but not the vast majority of the map. I thought that NTTR started out in a similar way and then developed over time with detail being added as and when they were able to. I thought that this was the case with Normandy too. I'd be very disappointed if this was the final product. With all of the action concentrated in such a tight area it's not exactly multiplayer friendly, if you're wanting to do more than just airquake.
  5. I'd second what Phil says, however - referring to the thread title - no, it's not dead. I have no issue running it in VR and I quite enjoy it. Since Georgia has been updated and PG has been released it doesn't look the best map and things could be improved. Ideally we'd see the coast up to Calais, as this is where some of the more important Luftwaffe bases were and we'd see a few more airfields in England. I'm not too fussed about the detail in England, as it is not the focus of the map. It just gives more scope for the battle. It still seems a little misguided to recreate the post-invasion scenario and not factor in the South Coast of England properly, but that's just the way it is. I'm happy enough using fast-jets on the Normandy map too, the Channel Islands can make for good practice bombing ranges. Overall I like the map, I'd just like to see it finished off and be a real sandbox for later WW2 operations once future aircraft are added - such as the P-47.
  6. Hi all, Topsy's latest update for his replica Spitfire controls, for sale now... https://79vraf.wordpress.com/2018/07/18/replica-spitfire-flying-controls-recap-july-2018/ Topsy can be contacted through the website.
  7. Sorry, had a busy evening. To summarise, Storm of War, in IL2 Cliffs of Dover, was a 24/7 persistent server with an eye to recreating the atmosphere of the Battle of Britain. There were teams with their own co-ordination, planning and objectives. Squads would be allocated their own bases. Resupply missions had to be flown to stock up on aircraft and replace losses. The RAF had 'TOPHAT' a recreation of the Chain Home system that was manned by controllers that could direct the RAF forces to intercepts. There were limited opportunities for the RAF to hit back but the Luftwaffe had a significant bomber strength that they needed to husband to get the best out of it. It would lead to intense aerial battles and it was nothing like an 'air-quake' server. It was very strategy orientated and needed good teamwork and cooperation between squads. There was room for individuals but they could only fly from certain bases and it wasn't actively encouraged. The server did have stats, but they were not the focus of most players - though there was a system of highlighting pilots that made it past a certain number of sorties (can't remember how many but I think it was 40). The fighting was hard, you didn't know what was going to happen on each sortie, there could be nothing, there could be everything thrown into your sector. There was a number of AI raids, there were player flown raids and they could be combined and made into diversions etc. It was an exceptional set up that lead to hours of enjoyment for a number of players. The AI was crucial to keep the server going 24/7 as it meant that there was always something happening. There was definite demand for it to continue, even in Cliffs, but to date it hasn't. There have been some dfferent trials with modern and WW2 scenarios in DCS and the hope is that something can start to be developed. We don't think it will make it to the same level as the Cliffs version, not for some time, until the DCS systems have all been worked out and understood. I'm not on the team, but I am a big fan and played on the server from 2014 to the end. It's worth checking out Philstyle's videos on YouTube. Failing that I have a couple of videos too. Hope that helps to clarify a bit.
  8. There is no other way to use the B-17, and Ju-88, when it arrives, for the time being. That is where most of the AI come in, but there are a few fighters in there too, as numbers increase there are likely to be fewer AI. As a mission test, of the principles and concept, it's worked well.
  9. Could this be the time that we get more than an air quake WW2 server? Is Storm of War coming to DCS World? I'm certainly hoping so. Tom
  10. While it is not yet complete there are more and more systems coming online with each update. Having had this as a day one purchase this has actually been quite good because it gives you a chance to learn things in stages. It is a very capable aircraft and I am extremely happy with it. It's my number one choice; and yes I have the Hornet. Definitely buy while it is on sale at this price, even if you don't fly it until it is fully completed.
  11. Not all of us are flying the Harrier as though it is the USMC version, some of us want to use it as though it was an RAF GR.7/9 and we're not that interested in what the USMC version can/can not do. If the aircraft can mount them then it should mount them.
  12. World War Two. Get things kick-started.
  13. Topsy has started design work on the right hand side of the cockpit: https://79vraf.wordpress.com/2018/05/09/spitfire-mkix-sim-kit-update-n-4/
  14. Brilliant! Thank you! I'll see what I can do with that!
  15. Hi all, I'm creating an OCU for the Harrier and I've set up some ranges. What I would like to do is record accuracy of bomb attacks and given an indication to the pilot as to whether or not they were close to being on target through the use of coloured flares. Is there a way to get a bomb impact to trigger events, without blowing up a target? The only way I can think to do this is to place a unit, make it immortal, and then drop bombs on it with the trigger relating to the death of a unit, thing is it won't die, so I don't think that will work. Can it just be that I creat a trigger zone and if a bomb ralls within it then it sents up a green flare, if it falls in another zone then it send up a red flare. I'd really like to learn to script so that I can start do to these things myself, but I have no clue and I don't really know where to start or look for stuff specific to DCS...and time is a factor as I have young kids! Thanks in advance, OD
  16. Hi All, EAF79_Topsy has been developing his replica Spitfire Controls after he has received feedback from his original examples have been sent out and tested. His latest update can be seen here: https://79vraf.wordpress.com/2018/04/25/spitfire-mkix-sim-kit-update-n3/ So far, feedback has been excellent! Thanks, EAF79_OD_
  17. Done that. Like I said, followed step by step. Doesn't work.
  18. Sorry, but I have followed your instructions - step by step - and as I stated it doesn't work. I just get a transparent kneeboard after all of the standard pages have been through. I also still have no map showing. So, as I said before...the mods don't work. Exactly the same as the pictures in the OP.
  19. I have missing textures, but also can not add custom pages. I can live without the map. I get the Viggen specific pages and nothing else. I had seen the mod, tried a few different things and none of them have worked. I have no idea how to make a .lua file or what to do with one once I have created it. Unfortunately this makes the mod unusable for me.
  20. Excellent, I was thinking I was doing something wrong. Really getting into the Viggen but in VR the kneeboard, with custom pages, is a life line that I can not do without. The sooner a fix is released the better - even if it only allows for custom pages to be added.
  21. Thanks, thought it would be!
  22. Hi, Just a quick question really. Do the maps model the curvature of the Earth? I'm wondering as a way of avoiding radar detection by long-range radar systems. I'm sure it is likely to, but I've never been up high enough to look! Thanks in advance, Tom
  23. It is now my go to module. I fly little else. the TGP is fully operational, as far as I am aware, and there are systems being added on a regular basis. I believe auto-pilot is now enabled.
  24. Just looking forward to it taking place and regaining some SSD space!
  25. Finally got to try it this weekend, it works! thanks a lot!:pilotfly:
