  1. You will be surprised, but human is a kind of animal, too. And animals are violent by nature. Not that they kill for enjoyment, but all of them do for survival. Animals kill their prey for food, animals fight their predators for defense. There are no crocodiles who reject to kill zebras, because as every lifeform, they want to survive and they have to kill to survive. Humans once weren't different. They killed for food, they killed in defense, they even killed each other for their territory, their women, their fire etc... Rejecting to do that would be highly irrational, because... you would die. After long evolution, people became more "civilized" and "detached" from the rest of the nature. They haven't had to fight for their living on daily basis anymore, so they have mostly supressed this part of their nature. Once irrational behavior has became a norm. But there are still fragments of this violent nature left in humans. If they werent, there would be no wars, no violent games and movies sold, and no police and jails for those who still don't understand that killing and hurting other people does not have any place in today's society.
  2. No need to apologize Swift, I think nobody is annoyed by your opinions here. :) I am a soft-hearted person too, I hate war and killing and I wouldn't even hurt a fly. If I ever had to kill a human, even in a self-defense, I'm sure I would be sorry for it for the rest of my life. The same way I hate games, movies or books which contains violence just for violence's sake, to attract some shallow-minded audience. However, I've never had this feeling when playing sims or "serious" games like ArmA. These are my ways to find out "how it feels to be a soldier, a pilot, whatever". I like military jets because i love how powerful and nimble they are, and how damn cool they look, not because they are intended for killing. (P.S. And I love choppers not less than jets!) Actually, I spend most of the time in-sim just flying around, training airshow maneuvers, having fun. I blow up some stuff now and then, but I never feel guilty about it. I know it's not for real, and that's good enough for me. Sims are made for people to enjoy them, not to teach them how to kill. Archery or javelin throwing are olympic sports, even if they were originally meant to kill people (or at least animals) too. But, as long as they are not used for this purpose anymore, they are alright for me. If all wars were simulated only, this would be a very happy planet. Last thing I'll add, as long as you can tell between right and wrong in real life, I think that sims cannot do any harm to you.
  3. Yeah, while I still think that flying is much more fun than many other jobs, but you're right guys, as soon as you start doing anything for living, it's going to get repetitive. I know it's mainly paperwork, briefings, routine flight training, education, medical examinations etc. what pilots do most of the time, not the stuff we know from movies. But I haven't heard of pilot (not that I know many of them) who calls his job boring, but many "ordinary" employees often do.
  4. Wow! How could I miss that? Very interesting technology indeed! If it's going to be as affordable as they promise, and will work with DCS, then I'll be really interested in!
  5. Fighter pilot, uh... no. The only weapons I've ever fired were simulated ones, and I like to keep it that way. I'd much more like to be a rescue pilot, but I'm not in enough good shape for it anyways. And, as others said, real flying is not only fun, but also lots of paperwork, procedures and responsibility. I'll better stick to having fun with virtual planes. Here you can see it up close (first video, after 4:30):music_whistling:
  6. ^ Actually, i LOLd a lot. ;)
  7. Unfortunately I can't rep you, but that's great idea mate!
  8. @ Etheral: Yes, I can basically agree on everything. We can make Frank Drake style estimates, but you're right, we don't know input parameters. How many stars out there have planetary systems? How many of those planets are suitable for life? And on how many of them does life actually exist? We don't know, and even if we did, then it will be only a statistic, not a fact. While the idea of extraterrestrial life somewhere out there still seems acceptable to me, right now, we have no real proofs of it, and that remains the most plausible theory until proven otherwise. And even if there exists life somewhere, did they really develop to be at least on par with us humans? Not even talking about those super-advanced aliens who can travel the space and bend reality however they want.:alien: Absolutely different story.
  9. Interesting, so G940 is not the only stick with this problem? Seems like Logitech drivers are really somewhat "special", but... I'll repeat myself right now, but we all saw them working in earlier versions. It means, no matter how much "different" they are, there must be some trick to make them do what they should.
  10. Statistically speaking, this is rather unlikely - and it would be pretty surprising to find us being the only intelligent beings in the entire universe - but yes, you are right. Until we see some real proofs of other civilization, it's still nothing more than a statistic. :megalol:
  11. Sorry for my ignorance, I didn't watch the movie, but what's the entire free energy like? How can anyone gather it and make wealth out of it? Seems like I'm missing the concept of it. Well, given the (maybe infinite) size of the whole universe, there is almost no doubt that there must be intelligent life somewhere. But are they really watching us up close, and carving ornaments into our crop fields? That's different question. Sorry, I didn't even bother watching it, but I think we are pretty much real. Yes, our senses sometimes try to confuse us, but there is more than strong evidence that our world is generally what it seems to be. Usually it's our own fantasy what makes us think otherwise.
  12. Actually, I stopped the video after few minutes. I think thate Etheral's post gave me everything I needed to know. Nice example of critical thinking there, man! I am glad that there still are people able to think about some theory before blindly accepting it as true. I actually saw that... Not because of me, but my colleague, who was very prone to those irrational beliefs. I had to literally suffer trough the whole video, just to prove him wrong. No avail of course, because there is no chance you can convince irrational people using rational arguments. @Kuky: You are right about that financial problems. That's a valid point worth a serious discussion. But, why to wrap it into this mysterious stuff?? UFOs, crop circles, meh... Hiding some relevant information into giant heap of occult :censored: does not help to spread this message to the masses.
  13. Second to last, actually... Last dies Chuck Norris. :D
  14. I am pretty sure that everybody on this forum understands this. We all know that ED guys are doing their best, and that their work is not easy. But, what I am concerned about: 1. I still don't get how this obvious bug could ever made it trough the testing phase. 2. It took one week for ED to even officially acknowledge the issue. 3. We are waiting for more than one month now, and we don't even know if this issue will be fixed in the next version. We understand what are you saying, Sobek, but am I the only one here who thinks that things like that should not happen to professional software developer?
  15. However, I do. Beta version of DCSW ran flawlessly on my old system. Then, 1.2.0 came and gave me absolutelly horrible FPS drop without any noticeable visual improvement = absolutely unplayable. Some systems were affected by this bug with no good reason. Luckily, I was in the process of buying a new PC, and the new one was not affected. 1.2.1 was the least harmfull of all DCSW versions. Yes, it gave us a small FPS drop (later fixed by a minor update) and few another bugs, but at least nothing that really broke the sim for me. And now, there is 1.2.2 with the infamous G940 bug... Yes, we all feel that keeping our software up to date using the latest version should be the way to go... but after my previous experience with DCSW, I'm starting to be very cautious about those updates...
  16. Off course I can. But as I mentioned earlier, using FFB stick without FFB removes all of its advantages and keeps only its flaws. For fixed-wings, it is possible to re-map trim commands (as also mentioned), and for BS, there's a little app from "average pilot" to fix it (brilliant idea, btw:thumbup:) But none of these solutions is ideal. The only right way is to have it finally fixed in-sim. EDIT: I've spent looong time flying without HDR on my old system (it prevented my poor old GPU from melting), and I believe there's a huge difference between flying with HDR off, and flying with not well working stick.
  17. Yes, exactly that, Sobek. FFB axes still messed up, and SWAP AXIS option solves it only partially. I really hope it will get fixed soon. It's about time to get rid of that annoying bug.
  18. I suppose it has the same effect as ticking "SWAP AXES" selection box in DCSW menu. It fixes front / aft movement, but left / right movement stays inverted IIRC. Seriously, I doubt that we'll get fix before Christmas.
  19. Damn! Those vids made me want DCS: Flanker even more than before!
  20. Hell yeah! DCS Flanker all the way!
  21. Ah, stupid me... didn't select the proper button from the list... Now it works like a charm! Well, it has some minor flaws, like the need for Alt-Tabbing, which triggers the black buildings bug (another issue still not fixed...), but... it really works! Until ED comes with a fix, this is more than sufficient. Big thanks mrsylvestre and of course average pilot and PeterP!
  22. That would be great, but we know it does not work like that. Things take time. I don't expect fix to be ready overnight, but I was only unpleasantly surprised that it took 12 days to simply post "OK, we know of the issue and are working on it." Nothing more than that. Well, it depends. For G940 users, i guess it's pretty critical issue. That's all what I wanted to hear all the time.
  23. Hi PeterP! Unfortunately, it does not work as expected (at least for me). Yes, it fixes the swapped axes (which only proves it is DCSW problem, not G940's) but my stick does not stay in the trimmed position (especially when I trim aft). I experimented with slider settings, no avail. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Any tips? But you have my rep anyway. You're the only one who at least tried to help us. Thanks.
  24. Well, you can still install standalone BS2, Mop. But you will get no more updates and no new features of DCSW. Which sucks, especially when all new modules, beginning with P-51D, are DCSW only. We could really use a fix already.
  25. Okay, my mistake. Maybe it's only G940s, not all FFB sticks in general. And yes, I know of G940's flaws and I have no idea how hard is to make the sim to work with it properly. But the thing is, previous versions had no problems with it whatsoever, as well as all other sim titles. So it's surely possible to make it work again. And I can accept he fact that my G940 is broken. But I'm not going to believe that G940s all over the world decided to break themselves right in the moment of DCSW update (and magically fix themselves when re-installing older version). I'm remaining convinced that the problem is on ED's side. Well, as long as new upcoming modules require the latest version installed, I have only two choices: To keep on installing bugged updates, or not to have new modules at all. And, putting bugs on one side, I love ED sims and I want to enjoy them even in the future, without being worried about "what the new update will break this time". EDIT: Oh, and by the way, updates are meant to improve the product, so encouraging customers to avoid frustration by not installing them is quite an irony.
