These are funny as hell. Especially the "no fishing" one... :megalol: Although it remains questionable what valuable can you catch in a toilet bowl. :)

Sorry, it's not your fault, but you can kinda expect such replies when asking question like that. It might be just my ignorance, but I've never heard about any right or wrong way of using a drinking straw. Honestly, I haven't ever thought there might be some wrong way of using it. Except sticking it into your throat, eye, nose or any other anatomical opening, that is. ...talking about which, note that the link posted by 159th_Viper lists only injuries of the mouth area. I was quite surprised that people are able to hurt themselves with drinking straws not only in their mouths or faces, but literally in any part of their body. And yes, talking about any part, I mean really any part. :music_whistling: Incredible.

Before start of that video, I was like: "Okay, maybe I'm scared of spiders, but don't expect me to be scared from a robotic spider!" And after seeing it in action for first time, well... I freaked out anyway. Man, this thing is just like real spider - scary and fascinating at the same time. Now just make it jump and stick to walls like a real one, and the illusion is perfect. :) When I finally become a successful rich businessman, I will surely buy few of them! ;)

OK, I seem to miss the information about somebody else working on the project since the very beginning. I lived under the impression that other team members all joined later, for which mistake I deeply and sincerely apologize. However, am I right it was Beczl's idea? At least I guess it was called Studio Beczl for a reason. It was his name and face on the Indiegogo page, so if nothing else, he was perceived as the "father" of this project. At least I donated my money to Studio Beczl. I really didn't wanted to make it sound like you are nothing without Beczl, as you assert. I clearly wrote that I didn't want to belittle any of you guys. I'm sure you're all very talented and skilled professionals, and if you weren't working on MiG-21, you might be making another high quality project as well. So, IF Beczl is out (I repeat IF, it's just a speculation now), you might be able to finish the 21 (and any future modules) without any problems. But, the problem is, this project was always felt to be Beczl's baby. And if it's spiritual father is gone, we hardly can go like "Oh, that's nothing, just another name". Like, it always were "Bob's homemade sausages". Maybe the new guy taking over his family business will make them even better, but really, is that what people can expect when Bob was fired? I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from. So sorry if I caused some unwanted offense, but if those speculations turn out to be true, I'm afraid our anxiety is pretty much appropriate. Thank you for trying to keep us informed though.

Well, I DO care. I do care about Beczl. He was the one who created the FC2 addon, who later came up with the idea of making a full-blown DCS module out of it, he was the one whose name was posted on the crowd funding page and who convinced so many people to donate, and he was the one who invested most effort in his pet project, the MiG-21. If I'm not mistaken, for pretty long time, it was one-man team working on this project. Beczl's one man team. And while I don't want to belittle the merit and talent of other team members who joined later, let's face it, if it wasn't for Beczl, MiG-21 wouldn't be anywhere near its today's state, setting new standard for future DCS modules. Honestly, there would be hardly any MiG-21 at all. So, that's why I do care about names. Now, *IF* it turns out that Beczl is out (yes, it's just a speculation, but I'm afraid it might be the case), it's indeed a bad news for all of us. Not as much in context of MiG-21, which is in very high state of completeness, and will probably be finished either with Beczl or without him, but rather in context of future modules. Beczl's name was sort of guarantee to me, without him, it would be entirely different team, from which nobody knows what to expect.

You're right, we can't do much more than this to help them out . But, 'cause I really cannot do anything else for them besides showing my support, then all I wanted to say is: HERE I AM.
-
That's it. I don't have the slightest idea of what the hell could go so horribly wrong that it escalated in situation like that, but either way, it's very, very disturbing. We have one saying: "You don't eat you food as hot as when you cooked it", so I hope it will be the case. Cobra's latest statements indicate that maybe it won't really be that bad. However, it's disturbing no less. One day, we knew that a great module is coming very soon, we even had a definite release date, and next day... BAM, we don't know if it's ever coming out. Talk about letdown. There was already one project literally shot down by general lack of confidence from the community. And now, when there is a project that people really believe in at last, something like this happens. If they don't make it trough, I can hardly see this community to show same level of faith and enthusiasm for yet another third party project. I don't care about my money, but MiG-21 must not fall. If it will, that day will be a sad day for us all. Please, MiG-21, get well soon.

Because a half-assed map is better than no map at all. And, while NTTR will be cool, let's face it - it has been discussed million times before - not everybody wants to be limited to training flights only, and having live combat action in the downtown Las Vegas feels just... ya know. So giving players the opportunity to use at least some benefits of EDGE in the old map while waiting for some new "real" map (assuming it would take minimum effort) would be not that bad. But, if it's simply not possible, as stated by EtheralN, then well, I think that settles it. You might or you might not. Some players actually like the old map, and I'm sure it would look nice in full EDGE glory. In my opinion, any map comparable with current Caucasus one, both in size and scenario potential, would be good.
-
Actually, not exactly. The new map will use EDGE, while the old one will still utilize the old engine - both engines will be supported in DCS. At least this is what I understood (if it's not the case, please forgive my ignorance). Porting the Caucasus map into EDGE would actually make some sense, because , while it would still retain its current outdated look, it could at least benefit from global edge features, like DX11 support (hopefully more performance!), new clouds and effects (which are engine, not map dependent), etc. So there are three possibilities: 1. Old map using old engine = no improvement both in looks and performance, no extra work needed (which is what we will get) 2. New map using EDGE = better looks, (hopefully) better performance, lots of work needed (which is what's not happening, but it would make for a nice 3rd party project) 3. Old map ported into EDGE = same old looks with some improved effects, hopefully better performance, not so much work needed (and this is what I believe George suggested, kind of middle ground)

Russian Air Force Photos and Video (NO DISCUSSION)
Rotorhead replied to Flаnker's topic in Military and Aviation
That was very poor attempt indeed. Looks fake from miles away. -
You know what's funny, guys? That during the rest of the year, we're posting comments like: ...and yet, we asses little flashing and breaking lights as "great fun", "nice", "addictive", etc... Although it's true that their collision and damage modelling is spot on... unlike some DCS units!!! :furious::bomb::ranting: :megalol:

Yep, you're doing right thing, mate. Even former Czech president rejected / still rejects wearing one, even if he loves skiing, still saying it's only his live, his decision etc. He was right in a way, but it's really one of the small things that won't hurt you if you do them, but may seriously hurt if you don't.

Wow, and they say motor sport is dangerous. Sad news indeed, all my best wishes to him.

I agree with Watari that Huey is great for training. It has no autopilot, no SAS or whatever, just collective and cyclic - just pure helicopter dynamics. After the initial struggle, you will find yourself much more proficient in both Mi-8 and Ka-50, both of which utilize some form of artificial stabilization. So yes, grabbing UH-1 first may be a good idea, but generally, both choppers are really nice. I personally prefer the Mi-8, because I have a thing for heavier choppers, and I like Russian hardware more anyways, but it might be just me. You won't surely make mistake buying any of them, and as also said above, you will end up having both sooner or later. ;)

I don't know, my first idea was "Wow, Su-27 inside a snow globe!" Nice holiday theme if you ask me. However, I totally hope this is some sort of indication of what is soon to come, not just some random good looking theme. :)

DCS 1.2.7 Open Beta - Preliminary Changelog

Well yeah! Nice changelog for the choppers! Can't wait to see clean Hip too - finally some proper use for those civilian textures! Me like! -
DCS 1.2.7 Open Beta - Preliminary Changelog
Rotorhead replied to Mike Busutil's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I dunno, I think that auto updater should not only load new 1.2.7 files, but instead, check EVERY file in your DCS install and re-download all files that are different from current build. This way, after every update you should end up having an EXACT copy of the latest version. But yeah, to avoid any possible complication, deleting you user files would be needed as well. That's actually very good point. Uh, no. We are all paying customers over here, so we have the right to expect reasonable quality of the FINAL product no matter if we took part in any testing program or not. However, I do agree that we, as the community members, should show our dedication and support towards ED by actually doing something for them and helping in the bug-hunting effort by testing the beta version. After all, it will be us who gets more polished product at the end. Yep, the only downside of two installs is increased size and the need to define all your settings again. Otherwise, the ability to switch from beta to stable and back whenever you want is very nice. -
Funny, exactly the opposite here... :D

DCS 1.2.7 Open Beta - Preliminary Changelog
Rotorhead replied to Mike Busutil's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
This change to open beta actually makes great sense to me. Actually, all previous DCS versions were betas IMO - at least judging by the number of bugs and WIP features contained in each of them. Honestly, I was always clicking the update button with uneasy feeling "what will it break this time". And the worst part, you couldn't opt-out of the beta in any way, except not updating from the previous version - which in turn meant you're stuck with that version bugs, which were fixed in the newer one. This way, ED will have greater chance of ironing-out the bugs in the "real" beta, and then releasing more stable and bug-free versions. Something we all wanted all the time I think. And what's the best news, you can try out all the new features in the beta version (which may also mean more frequent releases), but still have the possibility to come back to stable, hopefully bug-free version at any time shall something go wrong. So hopefully, no more "today's update made my DCSW unplayable" type of rants. Having both versions installed at the same time is great IMO, but I agree there should be Steam-like updater which allow you to change your stable version to beta and vice-versa if you prefer it that way. -
DCS 1.2.7 Open Beta - Preliminary Changelog
Rotorhead replied to Mike Busutil's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Yep, already stated in the Huey section. It's a shame, I'm hoping this nice feature will be completed and implemented soon. And for the Mi-8 as well. So Flankers and Fulcrums won't share the same EOS after all? Good! -
Well, I will leave the speculations if FSX is dying or not on somebody else (mods won't be happy about this kind of conversation anyway I think), but all I can say it's not that easy to just "stop developing for FSX and focus on DCS instead". Remember that DCS and FSX are two completely different platforms, so switching from one to another effectively means starting over from zero. And people who are good at something usually don't like to quit and challenge luck somewhere else with no guarantee of success. But I fully agree that DCS is the future and any potential developer would be much needed.

Yay! That made my day, thanks EB! -
Woohoo! Awesome Flanker finally gets some deserved love! :yay: Such an important update for me and I almost missed it! Going back to non-clickable cockpit will be step backwards for me, but no matter - just can't wait to kick in the afterburners and enjoy some of its low-speed-high-AOA-awesomeness! Man, I feel like a kid two weeks before Christmas... oh, wait... :D
